Our latest project in New Rochelle
has been successfully completed!
With the guidance and wisdom from local historians, community members, New Rochelle organizations and stakeholders. Street Theory and renowned artist Marka27 had the honor and privilege to produce a large scale mural that celebrates the past, present and future of New Rochelle.
We are deeply thankful for the support of our talented team and artists assistants:
art
The mural is painted on a large parking structure that faces the newly constructed Boys and Girls Club and wraps around facing Lincoln Park and its beloved community garden. It commemorates the beauty history and culture of New Rochelle, specifically during a challenging time of segregation. The mural also celebrates life and prosperity. The youth represents the future, embracing nature and connecting to their roots while honoring the past. Parents protesting and demanding for desegregation of Lincoln School in the 1960’s had a huge impact for this community.
In 1961, Federal Judge Harold Kaufman ruled for the plaintiffs. However, the school board continued to oppose the judge’s orders to desegregate.
The marching band drummer and Re*****on Flyer track runner are a symbols of local pride. The historical sites like Julius Weekes black owned restaurant and Saint Catherine’s original church combined with multicultural patterns are a reminder of the rich history and diversity of New Rochelle. Penny candy from the 1940’s, modern symbolism, florals and nature bring the composition together and help express the vision shared by New Rochelle’s community.
The mural wraps around to the North Side facing Lincoln Park with geometric patterns, florals, nature and cultural patterns ending with the portraits of Brand Nubian “Masters of Ceremony”. One of the most iconic and legendary Hiphop groups from New Rochelle.
Thanks to everyone involved in the creation and process for this impactful and iconic mural for New Rochelle.
Incredibly proud of the privilege we have to be able to work on projects that amplify and show the beauty of Indigenous communities ❤️

'Indigenous Flow' is a magnificent mural paying tribute to the ancestral homelands of Lenapehoking (Brooklyn, NY), Ramapo Munsee Lunaape Nation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, and global Indigenous communities. Resolute Indigenous figures take center stage amidst sacred symbols, patterns, and flowing water, symbolizing our interconnectedness and the importance of Indigenous representation.
Also inspired by diverse cultures, including African, Afro-Latin, Mexican, Central and South American, the mural celebrates Sunset Park's vibrant community and harmoniously integrates local flora and fauna from Greenwood Cemetery.

‘CEY ADAMS, DEPARTURE: 40 Years of Art + Design’ opens TODAY August 22nd at the CVAD Gallery at UNT.
Denton, Texas – CVAD Galleries presents “CEY ADAMS, DEPARTURE: 40 Years of Art and Design” from Aug. 22 through Dec. 15, 2023, at the CVAD Gallery, curated by Liza Quiñonez of Street Theory, contemporary art and design agency.
In a career milestone, the exhibition examines Cey Adams’ illustrious 40-year career as a visionary artist, cultural pioneer, and innovative designer. Adams has been at the forefront of multiple cultural art movements 📍for over four decades. For only the second time ever, the highlights of his journey will be on display for all to see in Denton, Texas.
A graffiti and design legend, Adams (American, 1962) honed his art skills by painting graffiti on the streets and trains of New York City in the late 1970s before moving downtown, where the street art was leaking into the city's high-end galleries. Like his pop art contemporaries of the time, Adams understood the power of images, media, and advertising. This position left him uniquely suited to give visual life to a new movement called Hip-Hop.
