Swap 🔁 the panic for coping mechanisms.

The transition phase of labour is one phase of labour that you can never be quite fully prepared for it's kind of the "Oh Sh*t" moment of labour.

Despite this ⤵️

Having the knowledge of this phase can't make all the difference especially for your birth partner being able to recongised when you're in this phase of labour. it's NOT the case of out of sight out of mind.

What can also make the world 🌏 of difference during this phase is loving and supportive words from your birth partner 🥰🙌🏼.

Cheers to that! 🤌🏽

They don’t call it labour for no reason, giving birth can be challenging work and a large part of that is getting through the intensity of our contractions (which in hypnobirthing we refer to as ‘surges’).

If you’re planning to give birth without drugs, trying these 4️⃣ simple natural pain management techniques is a must! ✅

Share with us! What is one natural pain management technique that helped you during labour? 💭⬇️

A drug-free pain relief option for during labour 🙌🏼

Introducing .. The Tens Machine

💭 What is a Tens Machine?

The Tens machine sends small, safe pulses of electrical current via the leads to the pads on your skin. They are thought to affect the way pain signals are sent to the brain. The pulses pass through your skin and into your muscles and tissues. This gives you a gentle tingling or buzzing sensation, which may be stronger or weaker, depending on the setting level.

👉🏼 The theory behind the effectiveness of TENS machines is that the pulsations flood your nervous system which then limits your body’s ability to send pain signals to your spinal cord and brain.

Although it does not work for everyone during labour and birth, it does assist a high level of women so it might still be worth including this as an extra tool in your toolkit. If you don’t end up using it, there is no harm. And the best news is, you can hire it!

💭 What are the benefits?

✔️ Natural pain relief – no medicines or injections required which is good for you and good for baby.

✔️ It may give you some control over pain relief (you have your own controller so you can regulate the pulsations).

✔️ You can remain mobile (able to move about) during labour, rather than being restricted to a bed.

Wondering where you can hire your Tens Machine? 🤔

This week is Multiple Birth Awareness Week!

The 2024 Multiple Birth Awareness Week theme is 'Multiples unfiltered. Tell your story. Find your community.' The experience of bringing multiple birth babies into the world is a huge journey with huge stories. We want to share those stories, unfiltered.

Multiple birth families need more support in Australia. Multiples are more likely to face greater challenges in their early years, necessitating additional dedicated support.

This Multiple Birth Awareness Week we are asking parents, grandparents, friends, caregivers and anyone who thinks multiples need more support to get involved!

When it feels like we have failed birth in some way we can often be so hard on ourselves and numerous questions can float around in our brain.

Such as ...

💭 Why was my body unable to birth naturally?

💭 Why did my labour fail to progress smoothly?

💭 Is that what birth is?

Speaking to a woman recently who had an awesome and inspiring birth and this person then decided to join our team and become a practitioner. However, after her birth, she read the hospital notes, and in the notes, it was written as a failed hypnobirth. WHAT?! 😲

We put everything on the line for our babies. So, you can never fail birth or a hypnobirth. You have gone above and beyond to bring your baby into this world.

The truth is sometimes your birth doesn't always turn out as expected however, it comes down to how you feel about your birth. 👏🏼

If you feel like you have failed birth in some way, I strongly disagree. You can't fail birth, even if intervention is needed.

Even if your birth was traumatic this is your permission to forgive yourself, that is how your baby intended to enter this world. However, for your next birth ask yourself how can I further prepare myself?

Should I or shouldn’t I? 👉🏼 The question EVERY mum to be is wondering when it comes to childbirth education. 💭

Not only does Hypnobirthing have many great benefits for the birthing mother your baby benefits just as much! 🪩💃🏼

Evidence and research shows that ...

🙌🏼 Hypnobirthing babies are more calm. Hypnobirthing techniques help the birthing mother remain calm and relaxed during labour, not a birth where the birthing mother is stressed and fearful. This allows her body to produce less stress hormones creating a more peaceful environment for the baby.

🙌🏼 Hypnobirthing encourages early skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding, enhancing bonding between mother and baby.

🙌🏼 Hypnobirthing techniques may reduce the need for medical interventions during labor. This leads to a smoother birth experience for both mother and baby, with fewer complications.

You require a caesarean due to special circumstances so you think attending a hypnobirthing course will be useless right?

💬 How would a hypnobirthing course help when my birth will already be medicalised?

💬 I won't feel any pain during birth so learning evidence-based techniques will be useless

💬 There are no choices when it comes to having a cesarean birth

Contrary to what some people believe; y o u do have options and y o u r choices can have a huge effect on your mindset, the mother’s comfort, and your baby’s introduction to the world.

We at Hypnobubs™ are passionate about positive birthing. Postive birthing is all about how you feel before and after birth.

✅ Having a cesarean birth doesn't mean your birth can't be positive.

The decision to use an epidural during childbirth is a personal one and should be made with knowledge.

While epidurals can provide pain relief during labor, typically epidurals are used as a default to avoid the perceived "pain" that seems so unbearable during birth.

❌ We strongly believe that no decisions should be made based on fear.

👉🏼 With childbirth education, your perspective on "pain" can be changed. We like to say that "pain" is a subjective word.

👉🏼 You can learn all the tools on how you can manage discomforts during birth.

All decisions during your birth should be made on research and going with what feels right for you during that time. 🙌🏼

One thing to give the FLICK NOW 👉🏼 to start your journey towards a positive and empowering birth experience!

The truth is ... women have been giving birth for thousands of years. If birth were that precarious the human race would’ve died off years ago.

When a mother and her birth partner are able to approach their birth without fear – then their birthing can be a POSITIVE and EMPOWERING experience. 🕺🏻🪩

We prepare your body and mind leading up to birth – so that, by the time birth comes around, we go into ‘automatic’ mode. Our mindset is positive, and this has a physiological effect on our body.

Why? 💭 Because we are calm and feel safe, we release a cocktail of wonderful hormones (including endorphins and oxytocin) that reduce discomfort and help labour move along with ease.

So how do we overcome our fears surrounding birth?

✅ We need to reprogram our subconscious
✅ Build our knowledge about birth and the possible interventions
✅ Create and maintain a positive mindset
✅ Ensure we have good support on hand.

Did you know fear had such a huge effect on birth? 💭⬇️

You’ve been misled 👀 How we birth may have changed but our bodies haven’t! 👏🏼

Although we recognise that medical intervention helps save lives. However, did you know 👉🏼 Our ancient mothers and sisters all birthed naturally without the use of anesthesia or many of the interventions that are common today.

In ancient pictures and drawings, you see women birthing in all different upright positions, no medical settings, and only the necessary people there to assist.

✔️ Our Hypnobubs program incorporates the teachings of many famous and respected birthing experts throughout history – giving you the complete advantage in your preparation for childbirth.

Hypnobirthing uses a combination of different techniques and philosophies that have existed for many, many years. 👏🏼 Ancient wisdom is combined with modern theory – giving you the advantage in your acquisition of knowledge as you prepare for your birth.

⭐️ Matilda's Birth Story

I bought the hypnobubs program and started the modules at about 28 weeks. One of the biggest things I took from the course how informed and completely EMPOWERED I felt going into my birth, due to the resources and support the course provided me.

I utilised the breathing techniques during labour as well as some visualisations.

I found birth painful and intense but mostly just exhausting, however I never once felt afraid about what was happening to my body. My partner and I felt empowered in every decision we made. There was talk of inducing me early because I was carrying a big baby. However we chose to continue to trust my baby and my body to do what they needed to do. As it turns out, my beautiful boy was born into the world at 40+1 and weighing 11 pounds of pure love.

I had an awesome labour and birth. I was labouring actively for about 6 hours, with 1 hour of pushing. The midwives were very impressed with how quick my body progressed through the whole process. I allowed them to do checks, however I denied them telling me my “progress” as I knew having a number in my head would only discourage me and I needed to trust myself to continue to work as it was made to do.

After everything I had several midwives come to see me to congratulate me and express how amazed they were. Asking what program I had been using.

They also said they were very excited for the doctors to come in and see how a woman CAN trust her own body, birth a big baby, no stitches, no hemorrhaging. And that when a woman was left to trust her instincts and her body that she COULD do what she was made for.

So I just want to thank you for hypnobubs. I will be using this for all my pregnancies. I really couldn’t have done this without it.

⭐️ Labour can sometimes stall for unknown reasons.

In our Positive Birth Program, we teach parents evidence-based techniques incase they find that their labour has stalled.

Try these techniques if you have found your labour has stalled:

📌 Return home if possible – When in a calm and familiar environment research shows that your labour is more likely to progress smoothly, your oxytocin levels will remain nice and high, and your level of relaxation will be optimal because you feel safe and secure.

📌 Pass the time watching a movie (especially comedies!)

📌 Deepening Techniques

📌 Ni**le/ Cl****al stimulation – This helps your body naturally release oxytocin. Oxytocin plays a role in initiating labour.

📌 Move positions – Try different upright positions as this can encourage your baby to descend further into the pelvis.

📌 Acupressure Points – Acupressure is said to increase blood flow to the uterus which influences hormonal responses and stimulates uterine contractions (surges).

📌 Light Touch Massage – Light touch massage helps your body naturally produce oxytocin which we know helps initiate labour.

📌 Go for a walk and/or climb stairs – By staying active gravity will help your baby move down the birth path.

📌 Shower or water immersion – Water can be used as a comfort measure and help progress labour smoothly.

📌 Have a nap - Listen to what your body is telling you – do you need a rest? You can sleep on your side or rest in a leaning-forward position.

If your membranes release and there are no surges or no special circumstances there is no need ❌ for the big rush to hospital.

The comfort of your home allows your labour to progress smoothly however, when will you know when it's time to go to the hospital?

Here are some common indications it’s time to make you way to Birth Centre/ Hospital:

👉🏼 Trust your instincts. You will reach a point in your labour when you’re no longer comfortable at home.

👉🏼 When you’re consistently having 2-3 surges (also known as contractions) within a 10-minute period. Surges last about a minute.

👉🏼 Phone the maternity ward and let them know that you’re on your way. Ask for a midwife who is familiar with hypnobirthing and/or natural birthing techniques.

When in doubt always contact your caregiver for advice. Caregivers are normally comfortable with you going into natural labour within 24-72 – however this can differ, so check with your caregiver.

❌ The typical birthing position you see women in especially in movies is on their backs however, did you know this position can have adverse effects?

One way you can help facilitate the birthing process for both the mother and the baby is through upright positioning.

Here are ways in which upright positioning can be advantageous:

✅ Shorter Labor Duration: Remaining active and upright can help progress labor more efficiently as gravity will help your baby move down the birth path

✅ Pelvic Opening: The lower part of your spine can move better when upright which means the birth path can widen and make room for the baby’s head. Pelvic joints can expand and move, which means less pressure on nerves

✅ Pain Management: Upright positions may provide natural pain relief by encouraging the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers. Movement and changes in position can also help manage discomfort during contractions.

✅ Optimal Fetal Positioning: Upright positions encourage the baby to align in an optimal position for birth, potentially reducing the risk of complications and making the birthing process smoother.

It's essential to communicate with healthcare professionals and discuss your birthing preferences with your healthcare provider.

Are you going to be utilising upright positioning?

It is always better to be proactive – rather than reactive. 👏🏼

A fear of episiotomy and tear is shared amongst many birthing women.

👉🏼 However, you can choose fear or you can choose to be proactive.

So, how to reduce the likelihood of tearing during birth?

✔️ Your position for birthing

✔️ Adequate nutrition through pregnancy

✔️ Using breathing techniques learnt in the Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program

✔️ Warm compresses on the perineum

✔️ Perineal massage during the last weeks of pregnancy using lubricant like vitamin E oil, almond oil, olive oil or coconut oil
Listen to your body’s urges to push

Is this a fear you share?

Photos from Hypnobubs's post 12/12/2023

When a mother and her birth partner are able to approach their birth without fear ...

and with knowledge, good support, and tools for the birth – then their birthing can be a POSITIVE and EMPOWERING experience. 🙌🏼🔥

Fear directly affects births as fear triggers stress hormones in your body which have a ripple effect.

So how do we overcome our fears surrounding birth?

✔️ We need to reprogram our subconscious.

✔️ Build our knowledge about birth and the possible interventions.

✔️ Create and maintain a positive mindset.

✔️ Ensure we have good support on hand.

Are you ready to say goodbye to fear about birth? 💭⬇️

Y O U are in C O N T R O L of your birth experience 👏🏼

Labour is a powerful mind and body experience, so eliminating fear and ensuring you are mentally and physically prepared is vital!

With media images depicting birth as traumatic and an ever-increasing number of traumatic birth stories circulating, it is no wonder that many women approach birth feeling anxious and fearful.

✅ Approaching birth unprepared and from a place of fear can significantly affect the hormonal flow and can negatively impact your birthing outcome.

Preparing for your birthing journey allows you to approach birth from an informed place of positivity and free from fear.

Evidence has shown that when you approach birth in this way, you are more likely to achieve a positive birth experience, no matter what turns your birth takes.

We passionately believe that birth can and should be one of the most beautiful and empowering times in our lives! 🙌🏼

If you decide to opt for a hospital birth did you know there are many ways to make your environment feel calm and comfortable?

❌ If a labouring woman is placed into an environment in which she doesn’t feel relaxed, calm, and safe, it can have a huge impact on her body and her progress of labour.

The Neocortex of the brain needs as little stimulation as possible for women in labour to activate their natural instincts and remain in a calm, peaceful and relaxed mindset.

So how can you create a calm birthing environment in a hospital?

✔️ Dim the room, close any blinds/doors, and turn down or off any bright lights. 👉🏼 Add some battery-operated tea lights or fairy lights to your birth bag (pro tip: ensure they are warm light, not blue light).

✔️ Music can be a great way to drown out any unwanted noises. Hospitals can be noisy places.

✔️ Affirmations placed around the room in different focus points

✔️ Hypnobirthing scripts (that you receive with your Hypnobirthing Australia course materials)

✔️ Essential oils

✔️ Your own pillow/blanket/linen

✔️ Eye mask, especially if lights can’t be dimmed

Each birthing experience should be an individualised experience, and a quiet, calming, relaxing, private birth space can be created within any hospital setting.

These simple adjustments can make a world of difference, and create a positive birth environment. What a beautiful way for your baby to be welcomed into the world. 🙌🏼

Will you be implementing any of these tips?

Photos from Hypnobubs's post 04/12/2023

Is a home birth safe? 🤔

Often people assume that the safest place to give birth is the hospital however, when there are no special circumstances there is no unsafe about a home birth. 👏🏼

Many mothers are opting for a home birth due to the calm, comfortable, and familiar environment birthing at home provides.

✔️ When in a calm and familiar environment research shows that your labour is more likely to progress smoothly, your oxytocin levels will remain nice and high, your level of relaxation will be optimal because you feel safe and secure.

When we enter a new space such as transitioning to the hospital this can sometimes disrupt our labour which can cause surges to slow down.

Even though you may be relieved to have arrived in the hands of a midwife your subconscious knows it’s an unfamiliar environment.

Are you considering having a home birth?
