Wild Souls Ranch youth are awe inspiring. Resilient, courageous and capable. The youth we serve come to the ranch to seek healing, and often discover parts of themselves they didn’t know were within them. It’s all about their journey and we’re incredibly grateful to be a part of it.

Unfortunately, because our county is so spread out, getting to the ranch can be challenging and transportation can become a barrier to accessing our crucial services. We are seeking gas card donations (or funds to purchase gas cards) to minimize this transportation burden for our general sessions as much as possible. Getting here is the first step and assisting those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to, is just one way you can support vulnerable youth in our community. To donate, visit wildsoulsranch.org/take-action or mail gas cards to PO Box 371 Fortuna, CA 95540. 🫶🏻

Let’s play a game! Can you decipher Pete’s BLM brand?

The Bureau of Land Management uses the permanent, unalterable and painless method of freeze branding to identify captured wild mustangs. The markings contain registering organization, birth year and registration number. Hey Humboldt locals,
There’s a storm-a-brewin’ and we want y’all to be safe out there. Remember to blanket your horses, feed them a little bit extra at night and double check your fencing. We also recommend tying your phone number into their tail or writing on a hoof as a way to take extra precaution during potentially troubling times. Stay safe and warm, it’s been a wild welcome to 2023 in our neck of the woods. 🌲

We’re incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication to this impressive achievement. EAGALA is a revolutionary mental health treatment model incorporating horses who are highly attuned and offer a safe space for clients to discover significant growth and learning. It is a global network of highly professional and passionate individuals. In addition to the value it adds for the kiddos they work with, they will also be able to offer EAGALA based groups to community members and families. Stayed tuned for more on this in the coming year!

Happy Giving Tuesday, a day for us to celebrate generosity, the spirit of giving and the support that makes our important work possible. We have the power to help change lives. Individually and collectively we can come together on GivingTuesday to make an impact.
Today we hope you’ll consider supporting our scholarship program which allows youth to receive our general, therapeutic equine-assisted mental health services free of charge. Youth in need of these critical services wouldn’t otherwise be able to access them, if not for the generosity of our community so we’ve made giving very easy. Simply click the Donate button in the lower right hand corner of our webpage and select one-time, monthly or round-ups. We greatly appreciate any and every contribution today and throughout the year. To contribute, please visit the link in our bio and know that you’re making a difference in the life of a child.

This weekend we faced the heartbreaking task of saying goodbye to our herd leader, Wi******er. Winnie was a patriarch, a gentle giant, teacher, friend, and heart horse to many. This loss is great, though we are comforted by the memory of his legacy. He has profoundly touched many lives and we know his spirit will continue to live in us all. He carried an incredibly heavy load with more grace than we’ve ever witnessed. We couldn’t be more grateful for his service and will miss his gentleness so deeply.

A special thank you to for having led Wi******er to Wild Souls Ranch all those years ago.

Thank you .appleton for helping to preserve his spirit.

We have a new Executive Director in the saddle! Help us welcome Murray Koch to Wild Souls Ranch 🎉🪩👏🏻

Murray is a Bay Area native who has recently put down roots with her family here in Humboldt County. She is a 2009 graduate of Skidmore College with a BS degree in Business Administration and a minor in English. She has spent the last 10+ years working with small and large businesses with an emphasis on relationship building.

Since she can remember, horses have always been Murray’s one true love. She was raised in a horse family and was exposed to the healing nature that equines offer early in her life. Growing up, Murray competed extensively in the sport of three-day-eventing and although she no longer competes, she enjoys teaching developing riders the skills and tools necessary to succeed with their horses. Murray is an enthusiastic and life-long student of the horse. Murray feels deeply connected to the work of Wild Souls Ranch and attributes much of her own healing to her relationship with horses.

We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team!

Who We Are

Wild Souls Ranch is a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization based in Humboldt County, California. The youth who attend Wild Souls Ranch come to heal from childhood trauma and benefit from equine-assisted growth with our herd of 10 loving and supportive horses. We serve youth of all ages in the hopes that they will someday become volunteers at Wild Souls Ranch, passing on the tradition of helping others heal with horses.

Founding Story:

Our organizations founding story is one of very humble beginnings. It didn’t start with investors, partners, or a family ranch being passed down a generation, or even a bank account that could comfortably feed just two horses at the time. It didn’t start with a college degree and years upon years of nonprofit sector experience. It started with our then 25 year old founder, an idea, a lived testimony, and a whole lot of passion to change the system and bring hope and opportunity for real healing into children’s lives through horses. It started with zero horse tack to our founders name, zero land, a free rescued off the track thoroughbred, and her ol’ childhood quarter horse that she reunited with after 13 years of being apart. It started with a lot of trial and error, 3 years of a revolving door of volunteer social workers, therapists, equine professionals, and working 9-5 Monday through Friday, and running the program right after her social services day job in the evenings and on the weekends. It started with mostly rejection, naysayers, and doors being slammed in her face, resilience, tears, compassion, grit, and an unwillingness to settle. We never lose sight of where we came from, the bold and wild heart of our organization, or the difficulties we faced for our nonprofit with a new idea to be built and started up in a small rural community where our founder moved and decided to plant down our roots.
