Are there some situations on which it’s not a good idea to have an open heart? 💗 It is always a great idea to have an open heart, in the sense of a doughnut hole, an empty space filled with light. It’s not the human heart—the fleshy thing that can get filled with barbs and arrows. This heart is the empty space. It is always a great idea to have that open because it is a receptor site for consciousness. Especially in situations that are dangerous or difficult, you want more receptor sites for consciousness, you want more awareness. The more open the heart, the more universal awareness can come in. What does it mean to “speak from the heart”? ❤️ In the context of Whole Heart Connection, it has very little to do with the words themselves; it’s about communicating in such a way that our voice is carrying the vibration of the heart. This is what we call Heart Voice. 💓🗣️ There’s a distinct feeling that comes when somebody speaks from the heart, as opposed to the head or anywhere else. What better place to practice speaking from the heart than in a group of people all joyously fumbling together and learning the practical experience of speaking from the heart? 💌 Warning: One of the side effects of speaking from the heart is an inexplicable, unexplainable joy. There are as many kinds of grief as there are patterns of disharmony in the Lung. 🫁 For example, Bei-type grief is more high and dry, yin deficient, unable to accept What Is with grace. You-type grief is thick, wet, heavy with phlegm, and feels dull and crushing. There are many other nuances and aspects of grief, all with physical pulse and tongue signs. When we attempt to treat grief without addressing the Lung’s underlying physical pattern, often there is resistance. 🙅🏼 Shifting the grief may seem not just impossible, but like a default on our values. When we honor the values and transform the underlying physical Lung pattern, healing comes. 🤍 In preparation for my upcoming workshop called Good Grief, I’m on the lookout for more stories, songs, poems and other examples of different kinds of grief, and different illustrations of how grief heals. It’s from what I call the Me-First School of Healing. It’s a practice of being helpful on a me-first basis, so that there isn’t burnout, and so that “helping” isn’t a subtle form of colonization. Many people resist being helped if we feel as though in order to be helped, we also have to let ourselves be colonized at the same time, i.e. managed or taken over in some way. That kind of help can feel more like being reformed or deformed, even with the best of intentions. What does healthy helpfulness look like, for the helper and the helped one? Come find out.
