Arizona Kids Build

Our goal is for students to gain and demonstrate an understanding of how the built environment directly affects their own well-being and that of the world.

Arizona Kids Build (AZKB) is a program that culminates in students building scale models of their own ideal shelters. We believe we have a program that will help students understand the necessary elements required in designing a human shelter in the desert environment in which we live. Students who are involved with the program will learn how to think about the structures they interact with every

Kids who have spent their whole lives in the Phoenix area may experience the desert in a completely new way when they visit Taliesin West. has been an instrumental part of AZ Kids Build since 2011, and we’re happy to say that our program has given hundreds of kids the opportunity to experience Wright’s work and his students’ experimental shelters.

After a 3-year hiatus due to Covid, AZ Kids Build is back in schools. Thank you to our volunteers from and for running two successful programs so far this year, and inspiring 60 students to think about how their surroundings affect their wellbeing.
