"So there I was, fresh out of university, having just completed my post-graduation. And I didn’t know what to do next. The course had been very demanding, as it should be, and in my naivety I thought I would find my perfect job right after my graduation. This is what they don’t tell you in class: the perfect job isn’t just waiting for you right around the corner. It takes a lot of work.
I found myself at my wit’s end. Scrambling to edit my C.V. to apply for jobs, I quickly realised the fatal flaw in my plan. During my post-graduation, I had basically ensconced myself in an academic bubble. I had not networked at all. So suddenly I was left with scouring the World Wide Web for possible work opportunities with absolutely no idea how to apply for them.
Networking is a very important tool, a lesson perhaps I learnt too late. Networking is like walking a fine line between interacting with people and selling yourself. I know this sounds crude but it mostly is true. And through my one and half years of regular job hunting I have come to realise that networking is a fine art. The realisation that I need help came to me when I had already spent two months, after graduation, jobless. Depressed out of my mind with emails stating that “I wasn’t the right fit for the job”. But even after being equipped with the knowledge of networking, I was still stumped. Because how do you really network? What do you talk about? How do you make an impression in a limited amount of time? I will be the first to admit it, that it was a steep learning curve.
In hindsight I really wished that there was someone who could have guided me through this process. Finding a job is a tedious process and requires a lot of patience. A good support system and the right guidance though definitely makes the process a whole lot easier."

Welcome to Ace Alley
You know that feeling you get on the treadmill when you set the speed far higher than what you could realistically cope with? That feeling of being close to giving up, the unhealthy pain, the fear of failing at what you intended to do and the breathlessness associated with stress and a hint of panic?
Are you getting a similar feeling when you think about university work and job applications? Have your classmates secured internships and jobs from world renowned firms while you still have not got the hang of writing a cover letter? There are times when life throws us in similar situations to navigate through. One of these nerve wrecking times is your job hunting journey. With your fellow classmates securing internships and jobs while you fret about your cover letters, resumes and interviews is, to say the least, complicated.
At Ace Alley, we recognise that job hunting is a skill. Like all skills, it is acquired through the right instruction, guidance and preparation. The brightest, most resourceful students who would obviously make brilliant employees, colleagues and future leaders fail to secure employment because they have not mastered the art of job hunting. Academic environment does not necessarily provide the skills that employers need. In essence, while you may be a brilliant student having excelled in all your modules, your chances of failure are still very high because you may not be able to project the skills a potential employer seeks. Do not let your job hunt be synonymous with stress, anxiety and a constant state of cluelessness.
