Fred Zulfa graduated from WHS in 1982, where he was a key member of the state championship speech and debate team. He was awarded a debate team scholarship at USC, where he graduated in 1986. At WHS, Preciosa was a four-year member and Vice President of AVID, a member of Interact, and a Pharmacy Ambassador at the Career & Technical Education Center (βCTECβ). Preciosa is grateful for the support of her CTEC teacher, Choanice Cole, for playing a significant role in her desire for higher education in the healthcare field. Congratulations Preciosa!
Meet 2024 Fred Zulfa Memorial Scholarship Natalie Pulido! Natalie will be majoring in Biology and minoring in Communication at UC Davis in the fall! ππ
At WHS, Natalie was President of Interact and was selected to participate in the Breaking Down the Walls program. She was a member of the Cheer Squad, the French Club, and the Principal Student Advisory Council. Natalie is grateful for the support of her mother, Yajaira Pulido, and the encouragement and presence of her stepfather, Jose Quintero. Congratulations Natalie!

Chris played soccer and volleyball for WHS, and also competes in Esports. He was part of the We the People team, participated in Link Crew, and for many years, has worked at his fatherβs pool service company. Chris is grateful to his math teacher, Gary Giese, who he credits with his interest in Mechanical Engineering. Congratulations Chris!
Meet 2024 Fred Zulfa Memorial Scholarship Amy Haddad! Amy will be studying History (and is considering a double major in Psychology) at Cal State Bakersfield!
Amy held two ASB offices at WHS: Vice President and Spirit Commissioner. She was also involved in Interact, Caregivers Club, Mock Trial, Swim Team, mentored incoming freshmen as part of the Link Crew Team, and holds a job at Reading Cinemas. Amy is especially grateful for the support of her Spanish teacher, Jose Santos, for the faith he showed in her to succeed.

Meet 2024 Fred Zulfa Memorial Scholarship Maria Gonzalez! Maria will be studying Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources at BC, with plans to transfer to CSUB! ππ
Maria has interned for Valley Strong Credit Union for two years and has participated in Dual Enrollment, which allowed her to take college courses on campus at WHS. She was also involved with Interact, dedicated extra time to community service, and currently works 20 hours a week at Abercrombie & Fitch.
Maria credits her parents as the inspiration for her college ambitions. Congratulations Maria!

Alexa was involved in numerous activities at WHS! She was President of Femineers and AVID, Vice President of Interact, 2-time co-captain of the varsity wrestling team, and she plays #2 singles on varsity tennis. She also works as a KFC team member.
She credits the support of her parents and the encouragement of her AVID teacher, Nicole Rodriguez, in her desire to seek higher education. Congratulations Alexa!
Tonight at the Class of 2024 WHS Senior Awards Ceremony, we introduced our seven new Zulfa Scholars and announced that each were awarded a $10,000 scholarship ($70,000 total). We now have 43 Zulfa Scholars and have given out over $250,000 in scholarships. We are so proud of these students and so thankful for the donors who have made this possible. A special moment from tonight was Diane McGee (who many of us remember from our own WHS days) telling the students to "always come back." ππ

Itβs difficult to put into words what last weekend meant to us. In the eleventh year of the Fred Zulfa Memorial Scholarship, we gave out $70,000, sold out our fundraising dinner, and really, truly CELEBRATED. We celebrated the 2024 Zulfa Scholars. We celebrated West High. We celebrated our friendships. We celebrated Fred. Thank you to all who made this night and this scholarship possible. ππ

Thank you to everyone who supported this journey for these incredible students to participate in the National Independence Day Parade! We have completed the performance, and hope you all are able to find live streaming recordings to see us! We did attempt a live mid parade, however technical difficulties might have happened and it may have not gone through for you to see. We look forward to compiling all of our video and photos and sharing it with you all! This experience in total has been a once in a lifetime and surreal experience, and we are all so grateful! At the end of the day, we are proud to have been able to give students a possibility to travel, and to experience something that they normally would not be able to experience! After this experience, we are looking forward to continue to give students opportunities to exemplify and show off our PRIDE!!
