A citizen called in a baby owl that fell out of its nest. It is a Great Horned Owl. After ACO Reid took the fledgling to the vet to be check out, he was cleared and ACO Reid was able to take him back in a makeshift nest so his parents could get him back to the main nest.

Happy National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week! We couldn’t ask for better Animal Control Officers than ACO Fred Reid.

He addresses countless wildlife calls, stray animal rescues, reunions with lost pets and their owners, animal neglect calls, and care for all the animals at the shelter.

Our officers know they can depend on ACO Fred to respond and be effective on scenes that involve any kind of animal. He does his job with compassion, kindness, and integrity to ensure all humans remain safe and that animals are treated humanely and have a chance at a great life.

WHOA! One of the Jenks Police drone operators caught this awesome sighting of a Bald Eagle nesting high in the treetops. This reminds us of all the unique wildlife you can see in Jenks, including the Oklahoma Aquarium!

🥸 COOL FACT: Bald eagles are known to return to the same nest every year. When they start building a nest, they will choose the tallest tree available to them that offers good visibility on both sides. In some areas where trees aren’t available, bald eagles are known to build their sturdy nest on cliffs or pinnacles, the higher the better. Once their nest is made, the female begins to lay eggs. This usually occurs in December and January for southern bald eagles.

🤠 Today, Cowboy the Corgi got lost after seeking some adventure outside of his backyard. A citizen found him wandering the high plains and brought him to the Jenks Police Station. Luckily for Cowboy, his owners had him chipped and Officers used a chip reader to contact his owners and get him back to his homestead!

We HIGHLY recommend that you get your pets chipped just in case of situations like this. Most animal control offices and veterinarian clinics have chip readers, and they can contact the owners with the info provided on the chip. Talk to your vet about how to get your cowpups and kitties chipped.
