With the conclusion of Pride month and White and Williams’ first Pride Month Walk-a-Thon, our team has collectively walked 2,155 miles to show our support for LGBTQIA+ community. We are proud to announce our winners are: Erika Griep (449,997 steps), Therese Azara (443,972 steps) and Steven Gibbs (418,631 steps). Honorable mention goes to Wesley Payne and Kenneth Gibb. In addition to their competition prize, our winners selected three LGBTQIA+ organizations for the firm to donate to: The Trevor Project, The Attic Youth Center, and The Ali Forney Center.

Each step we've taken symbolizes our commitment to equality, inclusivity, and honoring the rich history of the LGBTQ+ community. The enthusiasm and participation our team has shown made this Walk-a-Thon a resounding success.

Oh, the Supreme Court held that under Pennsylvania Rule of Civil Procedure 4003.6 an attorney (and, by imputation, possibly their law firm) who represents a physician cannot communicate with, represent or even receive records from a nonparty treating physician without following authorized discovery procedure. The Supreme Court has overruled the Second Circuit’s approval of the Purdue Pharma Chapter 11 plan and its controversial non-consensual third-party releases of non-debtors. This decision resolves a circuit split surrounding the permissibility of such releases and vindicates the United States Trustee’s objections to such releases.

Heidi Sorvino, White and Williams Partner, Co-Chair of the Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice and Managing Partner of the New York Office, and John Loughnane, Partner, spoke at this week’s 24th Annual U.S. Real Estate Opportunity & Private Funds Investing Forum in Newport, RI.

John moderated the panel “CRE & The State of The Senior Financing Market,” which focused on current market conditions for both new financings and modifications with particular focus on effective strategies for getting deals done.

Heidi participated in the panel, “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Office?” The panel focused on how office deals have changed, and factors involved in considering conversion to residential. Heidi related how restructuring discussions can be driven by understanding the effective use of Chapter 11.

At the conference, guests were invited to attend numerous networking opportunities and education sessions on the rapid evolution of the commercial real estate market.

While President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, it took until June of 1865 for Union troops to arrive in the town of Galveston, Texas to announce to the people of Texas that all enslaved African Americans were free. This day became known as Juneteenth, officially becoming a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.

In recognition of Juneteenth, White and Williams' employees are out of the office today, taking time for reflection and advocacy.

Nancy commented about cases on appeal before the Court. Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor, Jennifer Coatsworth also provided commentary. The commentary and arguments will be available to watch later this month.
