So wonderful to meet up with some fellow Region 2 at Farmers’ Market this past Wednesday. It was reminiscent of another meeting of Democrats 8 years ago on the very same day. Always good memories & a time to build community & friendships. Join us at our next meet up on Dec. 13, 6 pm at the Blaisdell Farmers’ Market!
O‘ahu County Democratic Party 2023 eConvention is in the books. After hours of committee work by dedicated from across the island, we accomplished much together on the County Democrats platform, rules & resolutions.
Connecting with Dems in Region 2 and to discuss upcoming plans, celebrating the surprise award presented to County Chair Lorna Strand, snacking on mochi during our Convention proceedings, & even our post-Convention meeting with the Oahu County Executive Committee were just some of the highlights of this productive day.
Democracy is always a work in progress. So grateful to be doing this work with all of our O‘ahu County Democratic Party

Such a beautiful day to be out on the water with Koa Kai Canoe Club Hawaii on this first “regular” Sunday of 2023.
It was a larger crew than usual especially with the holiday season winding down. Some would say it is likely due to new year’s resolutions.
I’ll share some of my 2023 resolutions in due course, but I wanted to share today & some of the past years’ photos because my return to paddling after 2 decades was really more about working on needed lifestyle changes.
We didn’t know it at the time, but about mid-pandemic in June 2021, I found myself at Magic Island & Ala Moana Beach Park walking with my family. We ran into a small crew of folks, including Coach Paul & Lisa, working on some Koa Kai Canoe Club Hawaii canoes. I had last paddled with over 20 years ago while I was a 1st year law student, before marriage & the growth of our family. I have always wanted to get back to the ocean but life interrupted.
Koa Kai Canoe Club Hawaii and all the good folks there opened their arms & welcomed new & old paddlers like me into the fold over the last year & a half. I even got to introduce my oldest daughter to a whole different world I love so much. Paddling is a sport like no other - the connections with nature, ocean, & teammates are gifts I cherish every time I get into the water.
In this new year, I wish you the joy of finding those meaningful connections I have rediscovered in the last year. Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou! May your 2023 be full of blessings, laughter & joy!
Happy Lights in .

ALOHA from to . Election results here in Hawaii & much of the country are virtually done, but not in Georgia. So proud to be part of this hardworking grassroots team of the Democratic Party of Hawaii & O‘ahu County Democratic Party
Sharing this story from last month as it highlights the work that needs to be done with passage of any law. SB2821 passed last session and was enacted into law as Act 113 to address period poverty by ensuring the provision of menstrual products free of charge to all students on all public school campuses. Mahalo to community advocates like Nikki-Ann Yee who continue to work towards the law's implementation, and also to the DOE administrators, teachers, and especially students who are working to make sure law becomes reality.
Menstrual product distribution still uneven in Hawaii schools While talking about “period products” can make some people squirm, at Ilima Intermediate School it’s not uncommon for a student to march into teacher Sarah Milianta-Laffin’s classroom, grab a sanitary pad from the “Menstruation Station” cart near the door and declare out loud, “Miss, I...
