Family History of Bonfordi/Boros/Bakos

Rozalia Leczo was born September 4th, 1863 to Parents Georgius Leczo and Maria Haraszok in Poľany or Kráľovský Chlumec, Slovakia. János (Joannes) Bonfordi was likely born on October 20th, 1858 to Joannes Bonfordi and Anna Geczi in Boľ, Kráľovský Chlumec, Slovakia. Janos Bonfordi (1859-1931) and Rozalia Leczo (b. 1863) wed and had a daughter, Elizabeth Bonfordi Boros/Bakos - born February 18th, 1896 in the village of Bodrogmezo, Hungary - now Pólyán (Polyan, Polyen, and even Paylen), Slovakia . Pólyán is in the county of Zemplen -Megye (“county”). Elizabeth appears to have had three sisters, Rozalia Bonfordi (b. November 9th, 1882), Mária Bonfordi (b. 1886) and Ilona Bonfordi (b. 1888), and a Brother, János Bonfordi (b. March 31, 1884). Research on the Ellis Island Foundation website indicates a listing of an “Erzsebet Bunfordi” in the ship manifest of the Kronprinz Wilhelm arriving on May 15th, 1912 in New York, USA. Erzsebet was 16 years-old at the time, and her place of origin was listed as Bodropnezo (sic), Hungary ("Bodropnezo" doesn't exist - most likely it is referring to Bodrogmezo, or Bodrogmez or Pólyán). The village was inhabited by 781 people in 1910 , mostly Hungarians. Elizabeth appears to have traveled to the US with her Sister, Rozalia Bonfordi Jakob (Jakab) and her Brother-in-Law, Miklos Jakob (Jakab). Her destination at that time appeared to be her Brother-in-Law (and Miklos’ Brother), Bertalan Jakob’s home at 9318 Leroy Ave., Cleveland, Ohio. On December 16th, 1916, Elizabeth married Sandor (Alex) Boros in Cleveland, Ohio with Rev. Michael V. Balogh presiding. Sandor and Elizabeth had two children, Alex (b. Oct. 18th, 1917 in Hooversville, PA) and William J. (b. October 11, 1918 in Munson, PA). Sandor Boros likely died on December 24th, 1918, in Clearfield Co. PA, and Elizabeth was left widowed with two infants. Elizabeth took her two sons (listed as "Sandor" - Alex, and "Bela" - Bill in the 1920 US Census) to live with her Brother-in-Law, Frank Boros and his Wife, Clara at their home at at 2898 Alpine Street, Cleveland, Ohio. They resided with the Boros’ on Alpine Ave until Elizabeth married Ignac (Ignatz) Bakos on January 27th, 1920 at St. John the Baptist's Church (now St John Byzantine Catholic church) in Cleveland, OH - Rev. Balogh presiding. Ignac’s home at the time was at 2898 Alpine Ave, Cleveland, Ohio - a few houses from Frank Boros’ home - and this may be how he and Elizabeth met. Ignac Bakos was born on July 16th, 1893 in Szucs, Hungary to Parents John (János or Joannes) Bakos and Anna (Szuszanna or Zsuzsanna) Farkas. Ignac (b. 1893) arrived in New York, USA on October 28th, 1912 (according to record he was age 16 - which is inaccurate based on birth date) via the passenger ship, “George Washington”. Ignac’s destination in the US appeared to be Toledo, Ohio. Twins Ignatius John and Helen were born to Ignac and Elizabeth on October 5th, 1920. Helen Bakos passed away approximately 11 months later, on September 4th, 1921 - a victim of the remnants of the 1918–19 influenza pandemic. Another Daughter, Elizabeth, was born on Oct. 7th, 1922. Elizabeth died on Nov. 15th, 1927 of acute miliary tuberculosis, nine months after my Mother, Margaret, was born on February 5th, 1927. As the time of the 1930 census, Ignac, Elizabeth, Ignatius, Margaret, and Alex and Bill Boros resided at the Bakos home at 2320 E. 29th Street in Lorain. However, some time after that, the Family moved to a farm in Erie County near Sandusky, Ohio - likely due to the Great Depression. By 1940, the whole family was back in Lorain, Ohio, residing at 3514 Seneca Ave.
