AUGMENTED ATROCITY - IN SEARCH OF SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T EXIST (CD by Aussaat)
To my horror, I noticed the wrongly spelt band name in my first review of this Finnish project (Vital Weekly 1390), which has now been corrected. Augmented Atrocity is still the music project by "former Kovana member Janne" and is a continuation of what I heard in the previous release. There is a ton of distorted noise music here, yet it is still about more than just playing a load of ugly sounds (as some would perceive noise music to be). Augmented Atrocity knows how to pull back, go deep, turn on a few loops, whisper a few words and have a different kind of creepiness, only to return in full glory (gory) power electronics at the next corner. Brutal synthesiser attacks, distorted vocals, and titles leave little to guess, 'Pile Of Decay', 'Entwined With The Vines Of Regression' and 'Back To Where It All Started'. What it all means is something to wonder about, as none of the lyrics can easily be understood. As with all music genres that have subgenres (and I gather that applies to all genres), I, as a general rule, do not know the finer determination. However, I think one could call this power electronics, mostly, and it reminded me of Genocide Organ and Whitehouse, but on updated machines. Brutal, minimalist synths, strict square waves, piercing right into your brain, but the variation does it for me here. Without
those moments of quiet unrest scattered about, the listener can breathe briefly before filling their lungs and diving back in. Now, that is the kind of noise I like. (FdW)

Vital Weekly 1429:

NUORI VERI - NVV (cassette by Aussaat)
NVV' is my third encounter with the mysterious Finnish Nuori Veri, of which I still know nothing. As before, I like music. It's hard to tell how this music is made, but before, Aussaat called this 'farmyard noise', which is stuck firmly in my mind. Of course, I believe animal sounds are present in these pieces, and there is a somewhat 'empty' piece of field recordings in which we hear gunshots. Along with loops of rusty machines, agricultural equipment and old tape loops sitting next to an old organ. And then there is the voice, low, transformed, alien and spooky. As for inspiration he (?) mentions a bunch of references, some which elude me completely: "folk horror films, Theodor Kittelsen, King of Sartar, becoming a father, bumblebees, frogs,
pines, junipers, heathers, barley, oats, the village of Kontttila, mysteries of Anukka, patriotic feelings and THE TRUE BROTHERHOOD OF THE LAUGHING SHADOWS." And that "Nuori Veri stands for esoteric rural resistance and animal rights", which is perhaps not something one thinks of when thinking about farming. There is, at times, the overdrive distortion in the noises, with contact microphones rubbing a bit too heavily on those rusty fences, but it works very well in this music. It's hard to say which piece goes with which title, but early on, something reminded me of orchestral music. It is far from the actual noise music and something more of a combination of noise and poetry. Strangely, these farmlike sounds, combined with poetry/reading (in Finnish, so whatever it is about, I don't know, but titles translate as 'The Homeguard Gathers in the Backwoods' or 'From the Storm of Tadpoles', so it goes many ways), and those single gunshots made me think of Etant Donnes, also quite rural at
times. And much like the French brothers, there is quite a bit of mystery there. Quite my thing! (FdW)

ENTRE VIFS - Art Of Noises LP (Aussaat, 2023)
All the typical ingredients of a classic Entre Vifs album - power tools/noistruments, acoustic racket, electronic damage - but in two long freeform live pieces. More loosely woven, slower paced, but still ever changing and engaging. And while I've admittedly not kept up with their last handful of albums, this has none of that slight digital sheen to it which I've heard in the few bits I've sampled the last five or ten years (I quite like how EV blends the old and new, but just an observation). Manages to sound very Entre Vifs while being something new at the same time. Banger!
