We came upon a group of OFWs
who wanted to file cases for Illegal Recruitment against a student visa processing agency. The agency did not deliver the visas as promised. Examining the complaint affidavits of the first batch of victims, it was found out that the agency made no promise of employment. Hence, we recommended the filing of Estafa in stead. In addition, we resolved to advocate for the amendment of the law in order to cover schemes like this one. Putting this on the table during a Senate Hearing brings us closer to the goal. More stringent measures will ensure the conviction of unscrupulous individuals who have long taken advantage of a loophole in the law.

Our first lecture in a lecture series launched jointly by the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC and the International Pro Bono Alliance, Inc. for the benefit of the Filipino Community within their jurisdiction, was successfully held last night (Philippine time).
