We are thrilled to announce that dancers of Anga Kala Dance Company (AKDC) and Anga Kala Kathak Academy (AKKA) will be presenting an array of Indian Classical Kathak dance performances at Pitt Dhirana’s 8th Annual Sponsorship Gala 2023 tomorrow, Nov 11th at 4.00 PM at William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA. Joined by other renowned schools of Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi, it was a celebration of art, culture, and spirituality that left us all spellbound!

✨What do you like about Kathak?
I was always fascinated by sounds of the Ghungaroos worn by Kathak dancers.
After I started learning, I fell in love with the intricate footwork and the gracefulness that is woven into the art form. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to learn Kathak from my guru Antara Didi!

A traditional ritual at the beginning of many Indian classical dance performances is a worship of the stage itself. This sacred ground on which the performance takes place, the Bhumi Devata makes it evident that the dancers are taught to think of their art form as a sacred offering to their deities.
