Ah, false memories with OCD and disordered anxiety. Not my favourite symptom, I have to say. It's in scary moments like this that OCD can really make it's lies stick.
Our memories are so creative, that if we can't remember something OCD is telling us, and if we are scared enough, our brains will fill in the blanks.
The false memories feel so real, and because you care, you'll end up checking, maybe retracing your route, looking for news of car accidents, and maybe even reporting yourself to the police.
The key is to not check, seek reassurance or to reassure yourself. As hard as it feels. Even saying "Yeah, maybe, maybe not" to OCD. I get that it will take all the bravery you have, but I believe in you ๐

Albert is now allowed in to therapy with you! (if you want him there). I got the news yesterday that I am now insured for Albert to be in the room with clients if they want. He isn't a therapy dog (yet), but he's allowed to hang out with us.
He's such a calm little guy to have in the room, although generally he can be quite an anxious dog out and about.
He has to wear his little "Do not touch me" scarf as a disclaimer because he doesn't like to be picked up(he would growl at you if you tried), but he does like cuddles and fuss when he comes up to you on his own terms.
Would you like a dog in your therapy room, or would it not be your thing? Maybe you're allergic or have had a bad experience? Maybe it would be too distracting? Or maybe you love dogs, or don't mind either way?
Let me know in the comments how it would make you feel if your therapist suggested it!
NEW OFFICE! I'm too excited to wait until it's all completely finished to show you. Here are some quick snaps with a snazzy filter of my office (and Albert).
There will be more to come as I get settled in, but yeah, I'm in, I'm here in Stanmore, in the "Old Council Offices, and I'm ready to help you FACE TO FACE as well as online with Anxiety, OCD, intrusive thoughts, and whatever you would like to bring โค๏ธ
I do hope 2023 brings you the things you need. ๐
Did you ever buy something then notice all the people in the world ever seem to have one too? That's attention bias.
Did you ever start a new hobby, then see that thing everywhere you go? That's attention bias.
Do you look at all the bits you don't like about yourself and list them in your head, then find it really hard to see something you like about yourself? That's attention bias.
It's simplistic but it's true. Repeating a thought gives it strength. Thoughts you don't repeat wither away. Like lifting weights, but for your brain ๐ง ๐
You DO have things about you that are cool, and nice, and worthwhile. Start training your attention muscle towards them rather than away.
TIP - To get started, ask yourself the following questions:
1. How would someone who cares about you describe you to someone?
2. What would they say they like about your personality?
3. What would they say they like about your appearance?
4. What would they say they like about about your values?
Write it down. Let it sink in. Give me 40 reps. Go go go! ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ฆฐ๐ช
