The forecast predicted rain and partly cloudy conditions with patches of sunshine. But when we saw Steve Hazell in the carpark, we knew it wasn’t going to rain, so the wet weather gear got packed away. The course was in pretty good condition but had soaked up some decent rain which affected the speed of the greens.

The day was sponsored by one of our committee members, Martin “B**gy” Williams. Due to his work commitments B**gy doesn’t get to play as often as would like and sponsoring the day is his way of contributing and giving back to the club. Thank you B**g for your very generous sponsorship you provide each year.

Results:
With no rain on the horizon, it was the rain-man himself, Steve Hazell, who played the conditions best. Steve shot a net 70 to take 1st prize. In second with a net 72 was another Life Member, Mic Hoar using all his local knowledge to edge out Chad Baker on countback. Frank Hopper managed to take 4th with a net 73 from the Captain on count back. Well played all 😊See all the results below.

Match Play:
We had 4 games of match play. Steve Hazell and June Power wasted a good walk and finished all square (Least it didn't rain :-). Trev Brown took care of Lucky Charm 2 Up. Hammer had an easy win over Harry Butler 4/2 and Mark De Theirry easily won the battle of the Lefties defeating Robin Anderson 4/3 😊 Well done all.
The Match Play rules are now on the Website next to the weekly results. Please become familiar with them as we have had a few invalid results lately.

NAGA:
Kenny is back. It didn’t take long for Kenny Graham to re-establish Bradman like form as we head into the second half of the season and closer to him snaring back-to-back Bradman’s. Kenny managed a net 89 to edge out an unlucky local, Teddy Cowled 😊 Well done Kenny

Next game:
Our next game is a Meadow Springs and will be the 2024 Steve Hazell Monthly Medal. So, show your support for our 16th and latest Life Member and get down to Meadow Springs for a game. Remember, if you cannot complete your nomination in the App or you have missed the Wed 1700 cut off, then txt the WANGS coordinator on 0450 723 199 between 0700-1900 only (outside these hours your txt will not be responded too).

Hartfield Country Club – 12 July 2024
Stableford
17 Starters

Another glorious winters day greeted us as we headed to Hartfield Country Club for the second time this year. One of the toughest courses we play each year with long Par 4’s and some tricky Par 3’s combined with very quick greens you know you have to be on your game to score well here.

Results:
Considering the course we were at, there was some sensational golf being played today which is going to keep the Handicapper busy. The winner with a mighty 41 points was Rocky Burnett who had a day out, topping it off with a NTP on the 6th as well. In second was the Captain playing well for 39 points and Gary Lock putting a good round together with 38 points to take third place. 😊Well played everyone. See all the results below.

Match Play:
With a small field this week we still had 3 games of match play. Wayne Merrit showed no mercy to defeat June Power 5/4. The Captain cleaned up a hapless Tamara 6/5 with Gary Lock surprising everyone to defeat Robin Andreson 8/6 to win the golf balls. Well played Locky😊 Well done all

NAGA:
Kenny has been knocked off by a blue bagger. Taking the chocolates this week is the lefty, Paul Milne. Paul put together a sensational round of 21 Points to take NAGA. Hope your Blues played better than that tomorrow 😊

Next game:
Our next game is a Rockingham Golf Club and is sponsored by one of our committee members, Marty “B**gy” Williams. So, show your support for B**gy and get down to Rockingham and have a chance of winning some great prizes in B**gy's Big Bash. Presidents Trophy – Stroke (Sponsored by Scott Brown)
31 Starters

A beautiful winters morning greeted us as we return to Kwinana Golf Club for the 2024 Presidents Trophy. Conditions were perfect for golf and with Steve Hazell playing there was not going to be any rain. It was a privilege to have the two previous Presidents, Steve Hazell and Dave Parry playing in the field today. The course is going through winter maintenance and had copped some rain in recent days but has held up well. The greens were still very quick, and any downhill putts were treacherous.

Results:
It was a tough day at the office with the golf course being the winner. Although we had perfect conditions the fairways provided no run, and the greens were very quick. One player managed to play to their handicap with Jason “Lucky Charm” Harris managing a net 72 to win the 2024 Presidents Trophy. In second place was the inform Tommy Power with a net 75 on countback from Mark De Theirry followed by Mark Stanley, net 76 and The Pres coming in with a net 77 😊Well played everyone. See all the results below.

Match Play:
There were 5 games of match play today. The Captain managed to defeat Andy Spencer 2 Up and June Power defeated Robin Anderson 3/2. The best result was Jason Harris giving Paul Sinden a lesson winning 5/4 to take the balls. 😊 Well done all.

NAGA:
Kenny is back and in a big way. It was tough day for Kenny with soft fairways and slick greens. He managed to take NAGA this week with a net 108 with a nice bottle of port to go with his chocolate. 😊

Next game:
Our next game is a Hartfield Country Club. We don’t get to play this fantastic course that often, so take advantage and get your nominations in and have a game at this great track. Remember, if you cannot complete your nomination in the App or you have missed the Wed 1700 cut off, then txt the WANGS coordinator on 0450 723 199 between 0700-1900 only (outside these hours your txt will not be responded too).

PAR (Sponsored by Leonie Spencer and MTA travel)
34 Starters

It was a typical winters morning as we return to Rockingham Golf Club. A slight southerly breeze abated mid round with the sun making an appearance producing conditions perfect for golf. The course had copped some rain in recent days but has held up well. The greens were still quite quick.

A very big thank you to Leonie Spencer and MTA for sponsoring today’s event. Leonie and her business MTA have been a sponsor and great supporter of WANGS for many years. WANGS could not do what it does without the support we get from sponsors like Leonie. Please give Leonie a call for a quote before you book your next holiday. Contact details will be on our FB page. Thanks once again Leonie and MTA.

Results:
Today’s format was everybody’s favorite, PAR, with the top five playing to or beaten their handicaps. The inform player of the last couple of months wasn’t letting his wife win today. After his runner up last week, Tommy Power won today with +2. Coming in second with Square on count back was Trevor Brown, followed by Ted Cowled, Glen Askew and Dave Spencer. 😊Well played everyone.

Match Play:
There were 4 games of match play today. Tommy Power won again defeating Trev Brown 1 Up and Andy Spencer had revenge on his brother Dave winning 2/1. Paul Milne recovered from his massive defeat last week to take care of Jason Harris 3/2. But it was Wayne Merritt who defeated Greg Czubek 4/3 who takes home the balls😊 Well done all

NAGA:
I predicted this result when I saw his name on the nomination sheet this week. He hasn’t swung a club in over 6 months and was scaring the kangaroo population on the practice range with some low flying mish*ts. Welcome back Chris Harmer, the winner of this week NAGA and the chocolates. 😊 Well played Selfie.

Next game:
Our next game is The Presidents Trophy at Kwinana Golf Club. The Pres will be sponsoring the day and there will be some great prizes to win. Tiger Lyons Monthly Medal - Stableford
28 Starters

It was a chilly and blustery winters day at Secret Harbour for the 2024 Tiger Lyons Monthly Medal. The northly breeze abated mid round with the sun making an appearance producing conditions perfect for golf. As usual, the course was in perfect condition with the greens fast and true.

Tiger Lyons is our 6th Life Member and was inducted in 2003. He has been around the club in between navy postings since the mid 80’s and has been a permanent member since 2000. He has been the work horse and one of the driving forces behind the club since joining. He has held most committee roles including Treasurer, Handicapper and Captain, but never President 😊. Some stats about Tiger:
Club Champion: Nil
Runner-Up: 7 times
AFL Team: St Kilda Saints
No of Premierships since 1966: Nil (He was 10 when they last won one)

Tiger, thank you for all that you give to WANGS each week and great to see you back playing golf.

Results:
It was a stark contrast from last week’s results. Everyone wanted to play well in Tigers Monthly Medal with 8 players playing to or better than their handicap…there were some great scores…. And none better than June Power who managed a sensational 40 points to just beat her Husband, Tommy, who posted 39 points on countback from Tamara Morey. Rosa Muchmore grabbed fourth place with 38 points and Mr. Bradman, Kenny Graham having his best round of the year snared fifth with 37 points 😊Well played everyone.

Match Play:
There were only 3 games of match play today. Tommy Power gave Paul Milne a golfing lesson winning 7/5, June Power defeated Rosa “the B” Muchmore 3/2 and the surprise of the round, Jason Harris had a win, defeated Mark Ward 3/2 😊 Well done all
NAGA:

With Mr Bradman having his best game for 2024 leaving this week NAGA open to all. But it was one of the usual suspects that scaped home on countback with 9 points on the back nine to take the Picnics. Steve Hesketh and POD were no match for this week’s NAGA, Mark De Theirry with 23 points 😊 Well played Mark.

Stableford – Blue Tees
25 Starters

It was a beautiful winters day as we returned to Kwinana Golf Club. There was no breeze to speak of and plenty of warm sunshine. As usual, the course was in pristine condition and the greens were fast and true.

Results:
With a field of 25 there was only one player who bettered their handicap. Using his local knowledge on his home track, it was the President who won the day with a very handy 38 points. With a big form reversal it was last week’s NAGA, Mark “Yo-yo” Stanley who took out second place on count back from Frank Hopper with 34 points. 😊Well played everyone.

Match Play:
There were 5 games of match play today. There were some great results with Tommy Power defeating Peter Bullock 4/3 and the Pres defeating Ronny Ross by the same margin. The best result today went to Phil Porter who comfortably defeated Jason “Luck Charm” Harris 5/3 to take the balls. 😊 Well done all

Pink Ball:
Well, if it wasn’t for the bench seat on hole 14 the group of Brown, Morey, Ross and De Thierry would have been scattered like ten pins. On the top of the 15th Fairway, Dave Lewis has left his buggy to help Glenn Askew search for his ball. When he returned, he discovered he had neglected to put the brake on and his buggy was tearing down the hill towards the 14th tee, missing the trees and slamming into the bench, which fortunately saving the group on the 14 from being skittled 😊. Use your brake Dave, use your brake 😊

Moose Hat:
The is no movement this week although Jason Harris tried very hard to no avail 😊

NAGA:
With the return of the current Bradman award winner after a length absence, Kenny Graham has come out and shown why he is odds on favorite to go back-to-back this year. Kenny wins the NAGA this week with a sizzling 14 points 😊

Next game:
Our next game is at Secret Harbour Golf Links. It is the Tiger Lyons Monthly Medal. This will be Tigers first game back after what has been a pretty tough period for him so show your support for Tiger and get your nominations in and get down for a game. Meadow Springs Country Club – 07 June 2024
Stableford
19 Starters

We return to Meadow Springs for the third time this year. The weather forecast kept numbers low but those that turned up enjoyed a beautiful winters day with no rain, light breeze and some warm sunshine. As usual, the course was in great nick and the greens, although well-watered, were still pretty quick that an errant putt was punished.

Results:
Again, the golf course proved to be the winner with no one playing to their handicaps. And it was a tight contest at the top with Ian “bam bam” Briggs managing to win with 35 points on count back from Brendan Elstone. Frank “No bunkers today” Hopper grabbed third place with 33 points on count back from a fast-finishing Wayne Merritt. 😊Well played everyone.

Match Play:
There were only 3 games of match play today. Brendan Elstone managed to defeat Steve Hazell 3/2. Wayne Merritt defeated Graham Spears 4/3. And the best result today and if I hadn’t played in this group, I wouldn’t have believed the result, but Chad Baker flogged the Vice Captain 6/5 to take the balls. 😊 Well done all.

Pink Ball:
He might have won his match play quite convincingly but when you take 4 Iron off the tee for safety and carve it into the scrub every time, you have to re-think that strategy especially when his driver was working well… what’s the definition of insanity?? Chad Baker😊

Moose Hat:
The Moose Hat is on the move. With an amazing 9 points on the back 9 and 4 shots in the greenside bunker on 18 to seal the deal, Hammer is the proud owner of the Moose Hat 😊

NAGA:
Another trifecta for today’s NAGA winner. He regained the moose hat, lost his match play and takes the chocolates (bag of Mars Bars) with a score of 22 points on count back from Rocky and Mark DT. Well done and well played Mark Stanley 😊

Next game:
Our next game is at Kwinana Golf Club. So, get your nominations in and get name down to play on this fantastic course. Secret Harbour Golf Links – 31 May 2024
Stableford
24 Starters

We were back at Secret Harbour for the last day of Autumn. The conditions were tough with a blustery northly blowing with some rain about for the first couple of holes. Just to mix it up we played off the blue tees giving everyone a couple of extra strokes. It didn’t help most of us!!

Results:
Only one person played to their handicap today and considering the conditions and his score this was a great round of golf. The inform Tommy Power was todays winner with a fantastic 39 points with daylight second. Elaine Barnes put together her best score for the year to take second place with 34 points. In only his third game for the year, Mitchell Spencer took third on countback with 33 points. Well played everyone.

Match Play:
There were only 4 games of match play today. Rosa and June fought out and All Square result and Keith Barnes defeated Jase Harris 1 up. Tom Power was back on the winners list defeating Elaine 3/2. But the big result was Dave Spencer defeating his brother Andy 6/5 to take the balls. 😊 Well done all

Pink Ball:
There were a couple of funny incidents today. The first one was the Captain who, while looking for golf balls in the scrub, trips over and commando rolls back out onto the fairway. He didn’t find his ball 😊. The second was the Pres, who on 17 plays a powder puff 7 iron that's destine for the water, only for the ball to land on the brickwork and bounce up onto the green and roll just inside the NTP marker. With a scuffed ball then rolls the birdie put in!! As Dennis Commetti would say “Centre meter perfect”!! 😉

Moose Hat:
Jason Harris again retains the Moose Hat 😊

NAGA:
World order has been restored. Today’s NAGA scored the trifecta. He retained the moose hat, lost his match play and takes the chocolates (bag of picnics) with a score of 22 points. Well done Jason Harris 😊 Well played.

Next game:

Military vs Civilians Trophy - Stableford
25 Starters

WANGS was back at Rockingham Golf Club for the annual Military verses Civilians Trophy which was established by Kev ‘Harry” Butler and Kim Gornall. Harry found an old trophy and instead of throwing it away they decided to refurbish it and the Military verses Civilians Trophy was borne. It was a nice sunny autumn day with a slight northly breeze, and the course was in good condition with the greens fast and at their best. All in all, good conditions for golf.

Results:
Well, no one played to their handicaps today even with the favorable condition. Only playing his second game for the year, Keith “Bowls” Hilton snared first place with 35 points on count back from the in-form Tamara Morey. Keith swears he hasn’t been practising and has been busy playing Lawn Bowls. Sure Keith!!! 20 points on the back 9 is pretty good going😊 In third spot was Robbie Robertson scoring 34 C/B on his home track. Well played everyone.

Military Vs Civilians:
The Civies were a little short so the Captain plus a few others volunteered to play for the civilians to even up the teams. Unfortunately, those military players (Robbie, Keith.H) all had decent scores and may have been the difference in the end. The final score were Civilians defeated Military 321 to 298. Well played everyone.

Match Play:
There were only 3 games of match play today all with big results. The Captain touched up Kimmy Gornall 7/6 to take the golf balls. Tom Power suffered his first loss of the season to Brendan Elstone 6/5 and Craig Eaton defeated the luckless Andy Spencer 4/3 😊 Well done all

Moose Hat:
Jason Harris had no competition today and retains the Moose Hat 😊

NAGA:
Well, it’s not very often we see this golfer at this end of the field… but that’s the fickle nature of this great game we play. NAGA this week, with a sensational 17 points goes to local boy, Peter Bullock. 😊 Well played Peter.

Secret Harbour golf club
19th April 2024 – see more.
WANG'S: We’re at beautiful Secret Harbour golf course this week, with 7 months of summer continuing to give us another 30+ c day. And the golf was pretty good out there as well, with lots of birdies and an excellent eagle on 16 to ( I don’t know how I’m going to play each week😊) Stevie Hazell.
But this was also a great day to introduce a fresh and new sponsor from Flower Run Florist’s. Thankyou to Brogan Lewis( daughter to our member Dave Lewis) for a great display of prizes for our winners today. Beautifully presented and in time for mothers day.
Thankyou once again to Brogan and Dave, and we hope to see more of this in future.
RESULTS: Well, it was some familiar faces again that we’re involved in the top 5, showing how consistent there season is going. Coming out on top was June Power on a brilliant 39 points, holding off the wee man Greg Burgess 37 pts, and in 3rd on c/ back was our Pres Bomber, also 37pts. Bringing 4th was the goldfish Trever Brown 36 pts, and John Muchmore 5th on 35 pts. Well played to all & results below.
MATCH PLAY:
There wad 3 games played today, and they we’re,
Peter Bullock all square with Steve McClaren
Andy Spencer beating the Moose Specialist Jase Harris 5 and 4.
But taking the golf balls was our winner June Power beating Harry Butler 8 and 6.
MOOSE HAT:
Enough members we’re out there today to wrestle it off Jase Harris, but he kindly obliged again to keep it with a 10 pts on the front nine.
NAGA:
Couldn’t hang around for the mug shot, so sorry no photo this week, but with a sizzling 18 pts Mark Shard takes the chocolates.
NEXT GAME:
Our next game is back at Kwinana golf course, so get your names into the app. With the Pres away on holidays he leave his home course to us for change. If you cannot complete your nomination in the app or have missed the 1700 cut off Wednesday, then txt or ring the WANGS mobile on 0450723199.
Remember if you have no luck then you can go into the weeks game and tap on players list and it will show all who are playing . Tap on a name and you’ll get there email address and mobile number. Pass a message on with one of them.
Or ring VC Hammer on 0400442925.
Also to help players that are not sure they can play on the Friday or not ( example Wilbur)
It easier for you to put your name down at beginning of week, and therefore if you can’t make it in the end its easier for us to remove you than trying to change groups at last minute in app.
Have a great week everyone,
Cheers Hammer .

Mandurah Country Club – 12 April 2024
The Wayne Merritt Monthly Medal - Stableford
33 Starters

We returned to the delightful and deceivingly tough Mandurah Country Club at Halls Head for the first time this year. The course was in perfect condition for the annual Wayne Merritt Monthly Medal round. Perth’s summer weather has continued into Autumn with the sun out and no breeze to speak of. The greens were very fast and the fairways were like carpet. Everything was set for a good day on the course with a good field of 33 here to support Wayne’s monthly medal.

Wayne is one of the original members of WANGS when it was formed in 1981. Wayne was a member of the United States Navy on exchange at HMAS Stirling when he started playing golf with WANGS. He liked Australia so much he immigrated back to and has been living in Perth ever since. Wayne was the handicapper in 1982, served as one of the organizing committee members for the WANGS 25th anniversary and is our 8th Life Member, inducted in 2004. Wayne is always there providing support to the club and committee when required. Thank you, Wayne, for the continuing support over many many years.

Results:
Well, there were only three players who managed to play to their handicaps today. And the winner was none other than the NAGA winner from a few weeks ago, Craig Eaton winning on C/B from Trevor “the golfing goldfish” Brown with 38 points. Excellent score on this tough track boys. Playing off six, Kimmy Gornall took 3rd with 37 points and Dave Lewis was 4th on C/B from Tommy Power with 35 points 😊 Well played everyone.

Match Play:
Match Play is alive and well. There were 7 games of match play today with some big results. The Captain did the right thing and let Wayne Merritt win 1 Up. Tom and June Power both had wins against Steve Seery and Paul Milne respectfully both winning 3/2. Brendan Elstone touched up Andy Spencer 5/3 and the shock of the round was Frankie “Bunkers” Hopper defeating “the Luck Charm” Jason Harris also 5/3 to share the balls with Brendan. 😊 Well done Frank and Brendan

Moose Hat:
Jason Harris had no competition today and retains the Moose Hat 😊

NAGA:
It was a bad day for our NAGA winner this week, getting touched up in his match play 5/3 and having a sizzling score of 21 points. And it’s not very often you will see that kind of thing from this calibre of golfer with Andy Spencer taking the chocolates this week 😊 Well played Andy.
