How important is inclusion when you think about your clothing?

Clothes can be itchy and tight sometimes but for a lot of people with SPD or ASD clothes can feel like that ALL THE TIME. It's overwhelming and a lot of times they are forced to deal with it because there aren't a lot of options when it comes to wearing clothing that's fashionable and sensory friendly.
design aims to change that with the Charlie Shirt. We take sensory issues seriously by going beyond removing tags and zippers. We added fidgets for tactile input and use soft material to reduce itchiness.

When everyone can find and wear comfortable, sensory clothing then we'll know we're on the path to inclusion.

Most "sensory friendly" clothing options out there only focus on one thing at a time.

For hyper-sensitive needs, they will removing tags and call the shirt "sensory friendly".

On the other side, most "deep pressure therapy" clothing options only focus on the hypo-sensitive needs. They'll add weight or bulky material and think that's all that's needed to be done.

Parents know that their children can have both hyper and hyposensitive needs at the same time. That's why our compression shirts take all these details into consideration to provide the highest quality sensory friendly, deep pressure therapy compression shirt.

- All tags heat pressed on with soft ink
- All the thread is soft
- The material is a brushed spandex to be extra soft on the inside
- The material is a power stretch material addressing the deep pressure need
- The shirt is tighter in the torso and looser in the arms and neck to apply the pressure where it's needed
- The length is intentionally longer to be pulled down to add extra pressure around the hips and eliminate the shirt from riding up.

We developed the shirt not just with you in mind, but actually WITH you, oh and we make you look good while wearing it too :P.

We can't wait to see what you have to say about it. Check out the testimonial highlight!

Don't forget the fidget!

Here’s the key to fidget objects most people don’t think about. A fidget object can be any item that activates the brain through one or more of the senses.

The key to finding the right fidget depends on the stimuli your child needs relief from.

Read with us on the blog where we give you solid advice on choosing the right fidget to get you through the holiday gatherings.

We took a recent survey and one thing everyone comments on is how amazingly soft our shirts are yet still tight enough to get the deep pressure support.

We're glad to walk that fine line to get you the support you need.

Shop around for a therapist that fits your child’s needs.

Yes, therapists are hard to come by but its 1000 times more effective when our child and their therapist mesh.

What do you think? Is it better to just get the services when they are available or is it better to be selective and wait for the right one?

Tips for Halloween 🎃

1. Walk your route. Familiarize yourself and your child with the walk.
2. Dress for the weather. It's getting cold out there. Stay warm.
3. Prepare for sensory sensitivities. Bring fidgets, noise cancelling headphones, or sunglasses.

Remember to bring a Charlie shirt with you to wear under your costume!

Everyone has their moment where they don't feel their best but for some reason SPD kids get defined by them.

One disregulated day in school and all of a sudden it wipes out 3 months of awesome behavior.

Remember to grant grace. The behavior is hard to deal with, not the child.

No one ever looks back and says

"I advocated for my child too much"

Independent adults come from strong parents that backed them up when they were too young to know how to advocate for themselves.

What do you think?

“We are our children's only full-time advocate. Our kids need us to learn as much about their disorders as we can. They need us to understand what they are going through, every day. They need us to feel how frightening and chaotic their world can be. Above all else, they need us to be their advocates.

To say, ‘No more’ when it needs to be said.

To say, ‘You can do it, I know you can!’ when we know they can.

To say, ‘I know what he needs’ because we really do.”

School accommodations you may not have thought about asking for:

1. Extra nap time. Sometimes kids need a little extra sleep. If they are having a restless day let them know to ask a teacher for a nap. If you add that to an IEP the school may be able to accommodate.
2. Sensory room. Schools are starting to understand different ways of helping children during the school day and are adding sensory rooms. Ask if your school has one.
3. Extra time. Having a short amount of time to finish a task is stressful. Ask that your child get a few extra moments to complete assignments.
4. Extra help during testing. You're not asking for the answers, just a little extra help to understand the questions.
5. Noise cancelling headphones. Headphones can help block noise from busy classrooms.

Anything you want to add to the list?
