Working out too hard can be counterproductive‼️

I often hear patients say a good workout relieves excess stress. That's because exercise reduces cortisol - the stress hormone.
💥Too much cortisol and you become insulin resistant and store belly fat.
💥Too much cortisol also makes you crave sugar and carbs and seek comfort food. 👎

Excessive stress can actually cause blood sugar levels to rise due to an increased release of the “stress hormone”.
You’re probably already aware that there are literally dozens of benefits associated with exercising, it manages blood sugar in more than one way. Short-term exercise helps cells in your muscles to take up more glucose in order to use it for energy and tissue repair, therefore lowering blood sugar in the process. Long-term exercise also makes cells more responsive to insulin and helps prevent resistance.
Running, cycling, swimming and lifting weights is also a simple, beneficial way to lower inflammation, manage stress, improve immunity and balance hormones. Insulin sensitivity is increased, so your cells are better able to use any available insulin to take up glucose during and after activity. 👌
