Tomorrow night! Sunday, Dec 10th, 7pm, FREE ENTRY in the front bar. It's great to be back home and looking forward to seeing some familiar friendly faces.
It's been a whirlwind. 26 shows in 30 days. 2 days of travel to arrive, 3 days return. Despite many challenges, performing at Uluru Ayres Rock Resort has been an amazing experience and opportunity to develop my craft, learn more about the land & meet new people from around the world. 🌏
People often have a perception that performing is an easy job. The reality is that it's challenging in many areas and consumes a ton of mental and emotional energy. Everynight you are exposing your vulnerability and wearing your heart on your sleeve.
The experience as a whole has completely drained me, yet reinforced how much I love making music and how lucky I am to make a living from my passion and share that with the world. Music & Art is something I need to do. It's how I express myself, how I learn about myself & how I make sense of the world. It continues to give me the opportunities to grow & give back in so many ways. Feeling blessed & grateful. 🙏
I had some difficult times while away, but was met with generosity and kindness from strangers who were to become friends. Big thanks to those who helped me out & of course to my family who held the fort on the home front, supporting & and encouraging me.
So what next? 🤔
No rest for the wicked! 😈
I'll be playing the , Adelaide, on Sunday night, 7pm. Hope to see you there! 🤘
Uluru Rock Art. There are no words to express the density of emotions being in a place like this Ancient classroom. It reminds me of the work produced by many modern Indigenous Artists, specifically from the APY. Ancient, modern & timeless. 60000 plus years of history & culture still evolving and passing knowledge forward.
Uluru & Kata Tjuta
I've been performing for around 15 years. Most of which I've been hiding behind my guitar. A year ago, almost to the day, I summoned the courage to face one of my biggest fears - singing in public.
Port Noarlunga Blues Festival '22 was not the first time I'd performed solo, but was certainly the first time I'd done so singing in front of an audience. I was terrified. Not even my closest friends or many of my family had heard me at that stage.
Stepping through this fear has been incredibly liberating and led to exponential growth musically and personally.
So here I am. A year later. Sitting on a stage at Uluru, performing & singing for people from all around the world. It's been surreal.
So, what are you afraid of and what's holding you back? Go at it!
Some highlights performing with Yuella Jugadai. 'Nyapari Song'.
Sound is woeful due to the large fans blowing to keep everyone cool! 🔥 🥵
Some highlights performing with Yuella Jugadai. Thunder Boys song, 'Intro', which I also play a cover version of with my band back in Adelaide.
Sound is woeful due to the large fans blowing to keep everyone cool! 🔥 🥵
I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with my good friend, malpa wiru, Yuella Jugadai.
Yuella and I met in 2015 when I was living in Nyapari, APY Lands. He is the singer and songwriter for local Nyapari & Kanpi band 'Thunder Boys'.
Currently, Yuella plays with his band 'Docker River Band'. They are doing amazing things at the moment, playing festivals around Australia and making beautiful music.
Pre Show entertainment! 👌
Hi all! I've been having massive problems with mobile and wifi out here in Yulara due to severe storms.
This has interfered with my ability to conduct lessons and generally be able to contact clients.
My apologies, hopefully the issues will be sorted asap. 🙏
Thanks for you patience and understanding.
Feeling blesed to have this stunning view 30-second walk from accommoda.
Yulara is a strange place. A resort town by nature, however, there is a real sense of magic in the air that's hard to define. You can almost feel the ancient history permeating your spirit along with the magnitude of the force of mother nature reminding you constantly of its power of creation and destruction.
Despite the harsh environment, it is a place of absolute abundance. Of all my time in central Australia, I've not seen so much wildlife in such a short period of time.
Overall, it's been far too hot to explore. There have been bushfires in the distance, hazy skies, and thunderstorms.
Photographic evidence that I am actually performing, and not just on a month holiday. 🤣
Performing 6 nights a week has been an interesting experience so far. It's incredibly draining putting yourself out there every night. Prioritising rest and care for my body, primarily neck and shoulders, has been important.
I've been using this opportunity to work on a lot of different elements of my playing and performing, trying new things, and stepping into a lot of my fears, primarily singing.
I feel that I'm improving bit by bit each day in all areas. I've also been writing lots of new songs, and it's been a great opportunity to test them out.
I am feeling very grateful to have the opportunity to perform here at Yulara.
🕺 🎶

Elders & Future Elders on Country was a project designed to promote the wellbeing of Indigenous communities by helping to keep culture strong & encourage the transfer of knowledge to the younger generations.
I’d like to personally thank our Super Crew - , & Ed Soang for all their hard work. We faced many challenges, but as a team we overcame all with ease & were rewarded with unique opportunities to see some of the most beautiful country & culture Australia has to offer. I can’t imagine a better bunch to do this trip with. Thank you so much.
I’d also like to thank the following as without their support this trip wouldn’t have been possible.
Firstly, the communities of Pipalyatjara, Kalka, Nyapari & Kanpi who welcomed us to their country & shared their culture with us.
The collaborative support from & was critical in bringing things together.
Murputja Anangu School for providing accommodation & hosting the community party on Friday afternoon.
Lastly, .arts for their continued support of SA Indigenous Arts & making projects like this possible.
It was an honour to be part of this project. 🙏❤️
Enjoying some downtime with Ed & 28 on our last day. Climbing mountains in Nyapari & sitting on top of the world! This totem is apparently a place where locals would survey the land before hunting. This is Nyapari, home of the Stevens family & wanampi tjukurpa 🐍. Nyapari was home to me for a year of my life & feel very blessed reflecting on all the opportunities I was given to learn from the local Anangu people of both Nyapari & Kanpi. Mulpa tjuta wiru 🙏❤️
Rewarded with this beautiful view in Murputja after a big day on country with the .arts team & the artists from .
...Adventure time...
Thanks to everyone who came came out to the for a great night of pizzas & drink specials. What a great venue & thank you so much for having me part of your live music program. 🙏🎸
I'm excited & proud to announce, in collaboration with Turner TB Michael, the release of 'Elixir 8.1.8'.
Elixir 8.1.8 is available for FREE streaming & download, with the option to DONATE by naming your price at:
https://mjturner.bandcamp.com/album/elixir-818
Elixir was one of the first songs I wrote that truly encompassed the type of music I wanted to make, play & listen to.
Recorded on January 8th 2008, it captures a time when Michael Turner (drums), Nat Wiseman (bass) & myself were playing with freedom & fearlessness while experimenting & developing our sound.
I wrote this song with the intention for it to be free & expressive, providing an opportunity for each musician to improvise & find their own path forward. Furthermore is its intent as a song of personal grounding. It reminds me of who I was, who I am & where I am going.
I hope Elixir 8.1.8 helps to awaken & lift your spirit as it does for me.
