We could not celebrate “Unity for the conservation of pangolins” without a huge thank you to all of YOU. The people who love pangolins, spread the word about their plight and make a significant contribution to our work with single and recurring donations. Your presence keeps us going, knowing that we are not working alone, but have an army of supporters behind us.

Pangolins in these photos are just a fraction of the individuals rescued from the trade and released back into the wild, thanks to your continued support!

Pete is crossing the pond! 🐸🎉

So excited to share that Pete the Pond has been selected for the 45th International Wildlife Film Festival in Missoula, Montana and will be screened to a public audience!

IWFF 2022 will be held in-person from 23-30 April, and a virtual catalogue will be available the following week!

I’m so happy that the film is being well-received so far, and even more thrilled that Pete’s story and incredible message is being spread across the globe - all the way from his back garden to the middle of Montana!

Thank you for including some pond love in your 2022 selection 🐸🤍

*Coming soon...*

Phinda follows the incredible monitoring team as they search for a very special pangolin with a remarkable story.

Following the start of their historic pangolin reintroduction project in 2019, Phinda, along with and and many other supporting organisations, are returning this magical, misunderstood species from a 40 year local extinction.

Pangolins are often lost behind all the headlines as the “world’s most illegally trafficked mammal” or a possible “source of Covid-19”, and I hope this film will show them in a new light and celebrate the fascinating, charismatic species that lies behind the scales, as well as celebrate a rare success story for a species so heavily exploited.

Can’t wait to share this soon.

Happy World Pangolin Day! 🤍

*please note all handling of pangolins is done so by assigned monitors only for rehabilitation and research purposes.

Happy World Pangolin Day!

Excited to share a little poster for a film I finally made at the start of the year after 2 years of trying!

Phinda follows the dedicated conservation team as they search for a very special pangolin with an incredible story.

After being present during the early stages of the historic pangolin reintroduction project on the reserve back in 2019, this story is very close to my heart and I’m so chuffed to finally have been able to get back out to SA after the last few years. It was filmed over 1 single chaotic day, so it sure has its flaws. But I hope it will at least do pangolins and the inspiring work of the team at Phinda, the and some justice and help to continue spreading the word about this incredible animal.

A special shout-out has to go to for the footage he has contributed to the film. And of course to his co-stars on screen and Sibo!

The prey was too big and too far on this occasion, but it’s always special watching cheetah brothers on the prowl for their next meal.

Did you know around 7.5% of all wild cheetah found in South Africa originate from Phinda cheetah?

It’s not every day you see 4 cheetah in a Marula tree! But when it came to coming down again, they were definitely reminded why they’re not leopards...

2/2 🎄 An Unfamiliar Christmas

Despite being in one of the few fortunate areas in the UK allowed to have an indoor Christmas last year, for my 88 year old grandparents it was a big decision whether to take the risk and spend Christmas Day with their whole family - as they have done for many years.

After isolating, testing and wearing a mask, they allowed me to enter their house to make a film for my first assignment about life in the pandemic as an elderly person. It was incredible to be able to sit and discuss their life and 65 year-long marriage on camera, and hear all the stories of family Christmases over the years.

The last couple of years have been extremely difficult for the elderly and vulnerable, and many are not so fortunate and live alone. So I’m glad my grandparents at least had each other, and I hope this little film reminds us of those that will spend this Christmas alone again.

Merry Christmas 🤍

1/2 🎄 An Unfamiliar Christmas

My first assignment for last year was to make a short film over Christmas. Due to the pandemic, I had to get creative and make a film at home, so wildlife soon became a film about my grandparents! It’s by no means perfect, but I hope on Christmas Eve this brings a bit of festive cheer and reminds us all of the strange Christmas we all had last year, and how difficult the past few years have been for elderly, vulnerable people - in particular those with no family to support them - and how this Christmas will be just as difficult for some.

Merry Christmas and stay safe 🤍

Film to follow in next post...

After walking past the deer at Ashton Court every day for the last year on my way to uni, I thought it was only right I gave them their 5 minutes of fame - but this jackdaw had other plans 🎥

Lovely to finally escape the edit suites to get out and film again! Had a great morning at Snettisham with .adele filming some waders along the coast 🌊

That’s a wrap! 🎥

As has been the case for everyone, the last year hasn’t quite gone to plan. Last October I moved to Bristol to start an MA in wildlife filmmaking, and unsurprisingly hoped to return to South Africa to make my student film - a plan which for obvious reasons could not go ahead this year. This was, of course, very upsetting, but things soon turned around when I had the pleasure of meeting the man pictured above. So without further ado, meet Pete the Pond!

It’s no secret that my heart lies in the South African bush, but this year really has been an incredible opportunity to get back in touch with wildlife closer to home, and appreciate what’s on our doorstep - and I have Pete to thank for that.

Pete’s love for British wildlife is second to none, and his relentless optimism and enthusiasm for the smallest, seemingly insignificant creatures is truly infectious.

As I move onto the editing stage of the film, I can only hope I do Pete justice and I can’t wait to share the film and his work with you all.

The jury’s still out on film quality, but for better or worse I can guarantee you’ll see beautiful gardens, lots of bees and butterflies, a parrot on a shoulder and of course, plenty of ponds.

The man just loves ponds! And now, so do I. Hopefully soon you will too 💚🦜
