SCHOOL LATRINE PROJECT
Through the inspection carried out with the technical team of the MEDWATER Foundation and teaching staff of the UE Paulino Grefa, the existence of a sanitary battery for the students of the initial level in precarious conditions was evidenced, for which they request the respective maintenance and the provision of suitable sanitary devices for children from 4 to 5 years old.

In this context, the MEDWATER Foundation promotes the project for the improvement of the existing sanitary battery and the construction of a concrete base for the installation of a water tank to provide drinking water to the kindergarten classrooms.

This month MedWater director Darrell Adams, hosted by Fundación MedWater, visited 10 Kichwa communities. Five communities were celebrating water improvements, and requesting new health projects such as family latrines. Five communities are new and have approached Fundación MedWater seeking collaboration for water improvements and/or latrines.

Fundación MedWater does outstanding work in developing these projects and the communities bring a high level of participation and on-going commitment to maintaining these improvements. The main resource that is not available locally is funds for materials. What an opportunity you have to participate by funding these projects by your donation. Please donate: medwater.org/donate

MARCH 22, 2024 - World Water Day

We need to move much faster. We need to work six times faster on drinking water, five times faster on sanitation and three times faster on hygiene. At the current speed, in 2030, 2 billion people will still be living without safely managed drinking water, 3 billion without safely managed sanitation, and 1.4 billion without basic hygiene services.https://www.unwater.org/sites/default/files/2023-07/sdg6_synthesis_report_2023_key_findings_and_recommendations.pdf

The water improvement installation in Las Maravillas that began the first of the year continues inspite of heavy rains. Specific Objectives are to reduce child malnutrition in the Las Maravillas neighborhood of the Chontapunta parish and improve the quality of life of the sector's inhabitants. These objectives are being locally implemented by collaboration between the members of the Las Maravillas community and Foundation MedWater, lead by Lucila Vargas, Director, and Civil Engineer Maritza Tapuy.

The work on the Las Maravilas pipe line continues. There are areas where the pipe must be suspended because of the terrain. Where the pipe is buried they are covering. So much good work!

Photos from MedWater's post 15/01/2024

The water from the source is piped down to the community to a tank where it is filtered to remove suspended matter and then chlorinated to kill the biological contaminates. The water improvement project is replacing old pipe that has cracked and leaks, reducing the amount of water that gets to the community. The tank is being cleaned in preparation for the new water line. The work is accomplished by community members, supervised by the engineer and Fundación MedWater staff.
