Granville Reading & Art Programme

Granville Reading & Art Programme

A community-based initiative that creates opportunities for residents of Granville to learn and create together.

Granville Reading & Art Programme cultivates opportunities for children (and their families) to read, learn and grow in their community. Projects create reading spaces within existing community structures, encourage productive relationships between individuals, groups and institutions, and emphasize the role of arts, creativity and dialogue in community development.

Summertime is approaching! It is an excellent time to encourage youth to explore topics they are interested in at their leisure.

Donate to the annual book drive and give young people in Granville, St. James (Jamaica) a productive outlet while they are out of school for the summer holidays.

Literacy as liberation. "Adults with limited literacy are more likely to leave school early, face incarceration, and have a higher mortality rate than people with adequate reading skills."

Literacy as Liberation | American Libraries Magazine Library services should not be limited to those who can read. Those with low or no levels of literacy deserve our attention and advocacy.

Yarn adventures for the whole family! Some learned to knit, some made things they fancied, everyone contributed to the yarnbombing and had a great time!

Looking back at 2021 to recall the moments of joy that were made possible through books and making things together. Despite the multiple pandemics that are disrupting the lives of Jamaican children - COVID-19 and gun-related violence - we hope to create more of these opportunities for creativity and togetherness in 2022.
