Rogue Aesthetic Woodwork
Handmade wood pieces made by Mick and Lan. Turning unused wood into art for you to enjoy.
:: 20” Maple Lazy Susan with Resin River and Lake ::
Knots and inclusions in the wood provide some opportunities to make some features that add a bit of character to the piece.
This lazy Susan has a flood coat finish of clear resin to protect the top and allow for easy cleaning.
:: Maple and Resin Serving Trays with Solid Brass Handles ::
I love to use highly figured wood for these simple pieces so the grain really stands out. I kept it classic with black and white for the resin and used hexagonal handles made from solid brass. There are little rubber feet recessed into the bottoms of the trays so they don’t slide anywhere when you place them down. The whole surface has a resin flood coat finish to protect the tray from any spills and make clean up fast and easy.
The white tray has been sold but the black one is on the site!

:: 20” Black Walnut Atoll Lazy Susan ::
I love the way the walnut pops against the aqua blue water! This unique piece of tree slice has lots of holes and inclusions that add tons of character to this piece. It looks like an atoll rising out of clear blue tropical waters.
The whole surface is floor coated with clear resin to protect the entire piece from any spills and make clean up super easy. I used Liquid Glass Epoxy for the main pour and Super Clear Epoxy for the flood coat.
This piece is on the Etsy shop for now! Go check out what’s available:

Mick is making time between working as a firefighter and going to EMT school to work on some projects! Excited to have him building again - follow us to see what he’s making with these pieces of red oak he just milled. 😊
Another big part of the business is my screen printing! I usually forget to make posts about this part of my art but I recently received a big order for a bunch of my shirts so I thought I’d share how I pack them up.
Each of these 100% cotton Bella&Canvas T-shirts is screen-printed by hand. The art starts out as a pencil drawing, is outlined in pen, put into Adobe Illustrator to create a vector image, printed on transparency, transferred onto a silk screen that we make in the shop via photo emulsion, and then printed like a stencil on each shirt or patch.
Just a little background on what goes into screen printing! 😊
Matching set of Myrtlewood and blue resin kitchen pieces. 😊 This was a commission from a lovely client who wanted to get some specific pieces made to match her blue kitchen tiles. This was a great project and got me to think outside the box a bit.
I made octagonal railings for the serving trays out of myrtlewood and used miter joints and flat brass brackets to join them. I sourced some threaded brass spacers that are normally used in mechanics and electronics and used them to affix the railing to the tray.
Custom pieces really push us to try new things! Let us know if you have any projects in mind you’d like to bring to life!
:: 16” Black Walnut and Sky Blue Lazy Susan ::
Always fun when a client requests a unique color! The small bit of white I added to this blue resin created some amazing textured waves. Something new to play with.
:: Redwood Burl Skull Stand ::
Finally got a chance to take photos of this special piece Mick made for our friend 😍
We were lucky enough to spend time with this talented little tattoo artist and receive some beautiful ink from her. We decided to do an art trade for her skills and this is Mick’s piece that he made for her tattoo shop! It will be on display to adorn a wild boar skull that our friend found while we were together. (The photos feature a bear skull)
This redwood piece from .jacob.woods is so stunning. Mick used the bandsaw to re-saw and create a bookmatched set which he joined into this elegant display stand. The base is made from laminated and curved wood to create the illusion of floating.
Art trades with other talented friends are the best!
Ahhh the horrors of shipping precious items through USPS…I understand there’s a lot of packages going all over the country and that not each parcel can be handled with the utmost care, but it still hurts when one of your precious babies goes out into the world and gets smashed! The first rendition of this buckeye tortilla press didn’t make it in one piece. The vertical pieces holding the handle got smashed off in shipping and it’s times like that you have to be grateful you bought insurance 😊
[[A word to the Etsy sellers out there, though: if you have insurance through Shipsurance (that’s what Etsy uses), they will try to tell you that your claim is denied if you have your logo on the box. They say it’s because it “alludes to the contents of the package” which may cause someone to damage or steal the box. So…don’t put your logo on the box. I had to argue with them to get half of the claim back.]]
This is version 2.0 of the buckeye and clear resin press!! I may like it even more than the first 😊
It is packaged with more bubble wrap and boxes than ever before and on its way in a nondescript box to my patient customer!
:: 24” Maple Burl and Tropical Blue Lazy Susan ::
More blue! More blue! This client wanted a more tropical blue water look for their lazy Susan :)
Hmm how many blues can one blue?
*Sharpie for scale*
These LED resin/wood lamps have an LED light bar in the base that can be changed out if anything ever goes wrong. The light should last a lifetime but I would hate for it to go out one day and not be able to fix it.
We spend a lot of time planning and testing out different designs to get to a finished product that is functional, durable, easily maintained, as well as beautiful. There are a lot of objects being manufactured and put into the world with the idea of forced obsolescence - those items may have a lower price tag at times but the product is meant to break or fail at some point so the consumer is forced to buy another. Our goal is to make something that lasts a lifetime. Something you can buy once and cherish forever. Maybe it’s a “bad business model” financially but at least I can sleep at night ❤️
I realized the photos of the lamps I post don’t have anything around for scale. Here’s one of my lamps in use with plants and Sharpie to give a better idea of the size 😊
Mick’s officially adding on a new career! Inspired by our favorite local sawyer who is a lieutenant firefighter and wonderful father and husband, Mick saw a path that would allow him to continue his passion of woodworking part time while serving his community and providing stability for our future family. I am very proud of this man who pushed through some difficult weeks and will have many more to come on this journey.
He hasn’t been able to get in the shop in a couple months now but once he’s settled into his routine you can expect some new pieces! Give your shout outs to Firefighter Phelan!
:: 24” Red Oak and Magma River Lazy Susan ::
This 24" lazy susan was inspired by flowing magma. The red oak represents the land and the copper colored resin represents a flowing lava river. The aluminum hardware is heavy duty and rated for up to 225lbs and has a low profile.
:: 20” Cherry and Purple Lazy Susan ::
Purple! 💜💜💜💜 slices of cherry tree create purple channels in this piece. With gold veins.
:: 16” Cherry and Gold Leaf Lazy Susan ::
With this 16" lazy susan I wanted to do something a little different! Warm cherry wood is joined together by a pearly white river with floating composition gold leaf.
We treat each piece of art with the utmost care and strive to make each one unique. The whole top is flooded with clear resin and sanded smooth to give it a satin texture. The satin finish removes that shiny look that resin flood coats can have that is a bit too slick and shows fingerprints a bit too easily. It’s got a much more tactile feel while making your piece completely waterproof on top.

:: 9” Buckeye Tortilla Press ::
Something a little different! A client requested a press made of buckeye wood to match a set of salt and pepper grinders they had. Buckeye is such a beautiful wood with its crazy swirls of slate blue and gray 😍 I love the wood but it is significantly softer than most of the hardwoods I use for presses. Challenge accepted, I decided to stabilize the porous wood with clear casting resin that hardens the wood from within. She still wanted the look of all wood so I used clear and polished it up so you still get that effect.
The cavities and voids in this piece are my favorite 😊 clear windows to see the masa get smushed!
:: 20” Walnut and Blue Water Lazy Susan ::
Another request for resin looking like blue water! Definitely the most popular request that goes well with any wood.
:: Maple Burl and Blue Resin Serving Tray ::
Something a little different! I made this charcuterie/serving tray with handmade maple handles and a midnight blue river. It is polished super smooth and finished with our own recipe of oil and wax to keep the whole piece protected. All of our wooden items will include a sample jar of our oil/wax finish so you can continue the maintenance of your piece!
This one is available on our Etsy site!

:: Ocean Cliffs Lamp with Teal Water ::
A commission by a lovely couple from Nashville who we had the pleasure of dining near in Gainesville one night. These artsy folks were so supportive of our work and made our night!
This lamp has maple rocky cliffs jutting out of a blue/green ocean and a solid maple base. The LED light bars are, as always, removable and replaceable should anything ever happen to them in their lifetime. This lamp would go well in any room to add a bit of ambiance 😊
Let me know if you’d like to commission a lamp of your own! I’d be happy to make you your own special piece.
:: 12” Black Walnut and Blue Resin Lazy Susan ::
A commission by a client who wanted a smaller lazy Susan for her kitchen. Love this combination of dark walnut with bright blue water resin. This tree round also has a lot of beautiful cracks and crevices that I absolutely love!
:: 8” Pecan Tortilla Press with White Accents ::
You may have all noticed that we haven’t made any posts in quite a while! Mick has started his new venture in firefighting 🔥 🔥 and it has been a busy adjustment period to say the least.
This was a commission for a client who gave me creative license with his pecan press. I love the stark white accents that highlight all of the small holes and inclusions throughout the wood. The black lines of spalting give plenty of contrast and makes for a dynamic look.
Let me know if you would like to commission a tortilla press of your own! 😊
Our dirty little shop dog 😂
:: 20” Black Walnut Atoll in Blue Water ::
Uniquely-shaped piece of black walnut that reminded me a lot of an atoll. I used a mixture of different blues to create a flowing current and highlighted all of the tiny bore holes with bright blue to make little bodies of water on the land.
Resin clear coat that’s been honed on this piece to make the whole top super smooth and completely waterproof. I love getting inspired by these strange chunks of wood!
