🎄✨ Your Chicago Holiday Guide has arrived! (You can thank me later)
Can I let you in on a little secret? December in Chicago just hits different - and I’ve wrapped up all my favorite festive finds in this handy guide. From twinkling lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo to hidden holiday pop-up bars that’ll make your spirits bright (see what I did there? 🤭), consider this your cheat sheet to experiencing the Windy City at its most magical.
Fair warning: those rooftop igloos at The Godfrey book up faster than you can say “holiday happy hour” - so don’t wait to lock in those reservations!
Swipe for my curated list of where to stay, play, and sip your way through Chicago’s most wonderful time of the year ➡️
Just found your next Budapest home base (and I had to share!) 🌿
During my recent site visit to Verno House (travel advisor speak for getting to peek behind the scenes! 🔍), I literally swooned when I walked into the lobby. This boutique gem is giving modern urban oasis vibes with the most gorgeous design details - can we talk about those palm frond lamps? 😍
What I love most about this 48-room property is how they’ve perfectly balanced style and substance. Every room offers dreamy views, and the location? Prime! You’re steps away from all the must-sees, but the moment you step inside, it feels like your own peaceful sanctuary in the city (perfect after a day of exploring!).
A few things that made me smile:
• Daily treats at their Hungarian candy bar (the sweetest way to experience local culture! 🍫)
• The dreamiest spa setup for when your feet need a break from cobblestone streets
• Their partnership with BeSweet (), a local chocolate company that employs people with disabilities (love when luxury meets purpose ✨)
Between us? This spot is absolutely perfect for couples looking for that boutique hotel experience in Budapest. Think intimate vibes, thoughtful details, and just the right amount of luxury - without feeling stuffy.
So tell me… is this kind of hotel your vibe? Or do you prefer something a little different? Lmk in the comments!

Would it surprise you to know that Budapest is a serious foodie city? It’s true! And I’m still dreaming about the epic food tour that completely changed how I think about Hungarian cuisine 🇭🇺
Let me take you along on my private guide adventure (because you know I love getting the local scoop!). First stop? The Central Market Hall, where we dove straight into the good stuff - starting with Unicum, Hungary’s national spirit (this is not for the faint of heart 😅).
But the best part? When I tried my first langos. Picture the most incredible fried bread topped with sour cream and cheese... I’m still not over it 😋 We also sampled our way through colorful pickled veggies and traditional Hungarian sausages.
For lunch, we hit up this local spot called Belvárosi Disznótoros (try saying that three times fast! 🤭) where we tried two traditional soups: Hungarian goulash (of course), but to my complete surprise, we also tried a cold fruit soup (Gyümölcsleves). If you’re having a hard time picturing what exactly a cold fruit soup is, it’s similar to a smoothie bowl — it was so refreshing and perfect for a hot summer day!
Just when I thought I couldn’t eat another bite, our guide casually mentions we’re heading to try traditional Hungarian cakes (suddenly I found room 💁♀️). We wrapped up the day in the coolest wine cellar, pairing Hungarian wines with local cheeses, and honestly? I’m still thinking about this experience months later.
Pro tip: Book a food tour for your first full day in Budapest. Not only will you learn where all the good spots are, but you’ll also get recommendations that’ll level up your entire stay (and trust me, you’ll want to go back for more langos!).
Have you ever had a food tour completely change your perspective on a destination?

Throwback to last year where I spent Halloween gallivanting around Portugal 🎃 I adored every bit of this charming little country, but if I
*had* to choose, l’d say the Douro Valley was my favorite (don’t tell Lisbon 🤭).
I remember being completely blown away by the beauty of the rolling vineyards - and even more so by the fact that most people only come out here as a quick day trip from Porto 🤯 After experiencing the Douro Valley for myself, I always recommend that clients spend 2 nights here, to really give themselves a chance to explore a variety of wineries, take in the scenery, and simply enjoy.
Even if you aren’t a lover of port wine, Portugal has so much to offer every kind of traveler: centuries-old castles and monasteries for the history buffs, pastéis de nata for the foodies, and lots of sunshine in the Algarve for the beach lovers. Adventure seekers can surf world-class waves or hike dramatic coastal trails, while culture enthusiasts lose themselves in Fado music and azulejo-tiled streets. And for all? The warmth of Portuguese hospitality will no doubt steal your heart.
Is Portugal on your radar for your 2025 travels? 🇵🇹

A haunted house, but make it travel 👻 Which of these is your worst nightmare? 🫣
Have you heard of the Meaningful Travel Map by ? This one’s a must-save for anyone who wants to explore the world while making a real, positive impact. 🌍💚
This interactive map is a game-changer, spotlighting sustainable, community-driven experiences across the globe. I love referencing it when planning client trips because it helps us find hidden gems that make travel more meaningful—think eco-lodges in lush forests, artisans preserving centuries-old crafts, and ethical wildlife tours that truly protect animals.
Recently, we used the map to plan an incredible food tour in Puerto Rico for a family. Led by the team at , they’ll explore local flavors while learning about Puerto Rican culture through its food. What makes Spoon stand out is that their experiences connect travelers with local chefs, farmers, and artisans who showcase the heart and soul of Puerto Rican culture. 🌺🍍
We believe that travel should leave a positive mark (and honestly? We hope you do, too!). Resources like the Meaningful Travel Map make it easier than ever to design journeys that uplift communities, celebrate cultural heritage, and protect our planet. And while the map is still growing, new experiences in new destinations are being added all the time!

Dreaming of the perfect autumn escape? Paris is calling, and trust me, it’s irresistible in the fall! 🍂🇫🇷
Stroll along the Seine. Admire the golden leaves decorating the city. Spot the Eiffel Tower peeking through a light morning mist. Wander through the Luxembourg Gardens. Explore world-class museums without the summer crowds (hello, skip-the-line at the Louvre!). Or simply get lost in the charming streets of Montmartre. Sounds like pure magic, right? 😍
Our clients just returned from a romantic getaway to this iconic city. One of their favorite things was spending cozy evenings in charming cafés, sipping hot chocolate and people-watching from heated terraces. (Pro tip: Try the chocolat chaud at Angelina – it’s life-changing!)
Now is the perfect time to start planning ahead and dreaming up your bucket list for next year. If a dreamy autumn trip is Paris is on your radar, I’m just the right person to help 🧡
You know that feeling you get when you start dreaming up your next adventure to someplace new? I’m talking that giddy excitement of discovering new cultures, food, sights, and experiences - the kind that keeps you daydreaming all day, every day in anticipation...
The feeling’s mutual, my friend.
The moment your travel request hits my inbox, I am so eager not just to see where it is you want to go, but l’m already dreaming up what kinds of experiences and possibilities await. If it’s our first time working together, I’m also equally as excited to get to know you, to discover what it is you love about travel and to help you begin to tackle that bucket list.
I’m going to geek out for a moment - but there is something majorly cool and exciting about every new travel inquiry being like a blank canvas, ready to be customized just for you, so that no two canvases look alike.
As with any job, there are days that the travel industry has its chaos (it’s not all glitz and glamour, truuuust me) - but to be a part of the journey of crafting your next adventure? I can hardly think of anything better, and more humbling, than that.
What destination is giving you that giddy daydreaming feeling lately? Mine is Chile 🇨🇱 (and spoiler alert: it’s where I’m heading next 😉) - share yours in the comments!
You know that feeling when you discover something so special, you can’t keep it to yourself? That’s exactly how I felt after booking clients at Boardwalk Boutique Hotel in Aruba. 🦩
Beyond being a stunning beachside escape (with the most charming casitas!), this boutique gem transforms the typical resort experience into something truly meaningful through their innovative Do-Good Program.
🌱 Here’s just a few ways you can make a positive impact during your stay:
• Support the local Donkey Sanctuary (the stories you’ll bring home!)

There’s something magical about slowing down and truly enjoying the journey. For this adventurous couple, Croatia was more than just a postcard-perfect destination.
Picture this: taking a boat to a private island that is home to a centuries-old oyster farm. Here they learned of traditions dating back to Roman times and enjoyed briny oysters, fresh from the sea, paired with local wine — um, yes please! 🦪🍷
You know, 6 years of crafting travel experiences has taught me that the most unforgettable moments often come when you least expect them. Their adventures in Croatia also included exploring Krka National Park’s trails and waterfalls, indulging in a Michelin-starred winery dinner, and enjoying an intimate olive grove dinner with friends and family. All amazing experiences, certainly – but it’s this little oyster farm that became the story they couldn’t stop sharing.
So here’s my challenge to you: On your next trip, seek out these hidden gems. Look for the experiences that go beyond the guidebook. Because those are the moments that will stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
Have you ever had an unexpected travel experience that became the highlight of your trip? I’d love to hear about it! And if you’re dreaming of your own Croatian adventure, let’s chat. I promise I know a thing or two about how to make it truly unforgettable 😉🇭🇷
Think river cruising is just for Europe? Think again! 🌍

Experience the magic of Africa’s rivers like the Chobe and Zambezi. Think thrilling safaris, incredible wildlife, and landscapes that leave you speechless.

📸:
Happy Friday, friends! There are SO MANY new faces around here, so figured it was time I introduce myself again.
I’m Lina—the coffee-addicted, book-loving, travel-obsessed human & founder behind Go Wander Travel Co. ✈️ Here’s a little peek into the person behind the planning:
☮️ I’m an Enneagram 9 (fellow 9s, where you at?)
☕️ My go-to coffee? Iced shaken espresso with a splash of oat milk—homemade of course, thanks to Nespresso (not sponsored unfortunately, just obsessed)
📚 Thriller/mystery novels are my jam, and I have a soft spot for a good fantasy story
🎭 Musical theater lover (but I’ll spare you my singing voice)
✋ Originally from the Mitten State, now loving life in Wisconsin for almost a decade
🇪🇸 Studied abroad in Spain, which sparked my forever love for the country
💙 Boy mom to a very silly and strong-willed child who keeps me on my toes every day
On a more serious note, I’m a firm believer that travel should be meaningful and leave a lasting, positive impact. The trips I enjoy planning most steer clear of the overtouristed spots and instead connect you with people, places, and cultures in a way that truly matters. If you want to travel in a way that is responsible, thoughtful, and full of heart, I’m your person.
So, that’s me! I’d love to hear from you—let’s find out what fun things we have in common!

Do you believe in love at first sight? When it comes to hotels, I sure do! 🤭
Okay maybe that was a liiittle cheesy, but I can’t help it: I fell head over heels in love with the Matild Palace in Budapest. Originally built in 1902, the palace is now a UNESCO world heritage site that’s since been beautifully restored (and trust me, she really is a BEAUTY). The interior design features an eclectic mix of colors, patterns, and textures that somehow all work seamlessly together—think regal elegance meets modern flair.
And while I adore a beautiful boutique hotel, all the gorgeous design in the world could never replace the quality of its staff – and fortunately, Matild Palace flawlessly checks both these boxes. 👌🏻
Other things I love about this property:
🍸 Swanky, speakeasy-esque rooftop bar
🧖♀️ Rejuvenating spa
🍽️ Incredible Michelin star dining options
📍 Central location right in the heart of the city for easy exploring
So… who wants to stay here the next time you’re in Budapest? 🙋♀️

Can I tell you about a perfect day spent in Belgrade? 🇷🇸
Start your morning in the charming Dorćol neighborhood with breakfast at Bloom—a cozy spot that feels like a local secret. Afterward, wander the narrow cobblestone streets, passing by inviting cafes and unique shops.
Make a stop at the stunning St. Sava Temple, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world, before diving into the lively local life at the Zeleni Venac green market. Then, head to Josephine for a craft cocktail or mocktail (your choice!), and for lunch, try the best ćevapčići in town at the tucked-away Ćevabdžinica Cica.
Next up, enjoy a rakia tasting at Urban Distillery—a perfect way to get a taste of Serbia’s specialty spirit. After, stroll down Knez Mihailova, Belgrade’s bustling main pedestrian street, packed with endless shops. As golden hour approaches, make your way to the Kalemegdan Fortress to catch the sunset—it’s nothing short of magical. 😍
Finally, end the day on a high note with rooftop dinner and drinks at Mama Shelter, where the vibes are just as good as the views.
Sounds dreamy, right? When are you coming to experience it yourself? 😏

The Vision Behind Go Wander Travel Co.
WELCOME, MY FELLOW ADVENTURERS!
My name is Lina. Travel has always very much been a part of who I am. For as long as I can remember, I have had an insatiable wanderlust and a desire to explore the world. I truly believe that travel is good for the soul and the best way to live life. While I’ve always been curious about the world and its many cultures, the travel bug really struck during my college years when I traveled abroad for the first time. In my free time, I’d spend hours researching cities and countries around the world, just for fun. I’m fascinated by other cultures and fully recognize the world is so much more than the here and now. I have the deepest desire to explore every inch of it. I was (and still am) constantly daydreaming about the next adventure.
Over the years, friends and family encouraged me to turn my love of travel into a business due to my travel advice and ever growing collection of detailed trip itineraries to places I’ve yet to discover, uniquely curated by yours truly. My love for travel and the desire to help others create lasting memories from their adventures is what drives my passion as a travel professional.
Go Wander Travel Co. was initially launched in the summer of 2018 and has transformed into a creative professional outlet in which I wear many hats: planner, designer, writer, photographer.
