With the Thanksgiving break approaching, we are aware that some of you may decide to travel during this time. We understand that you may be missing your family and friends, and at the same time we want you to make a safe and informed decision.

If you do choose to travel, we encourage you to exercise great caution. Please follow the proper travel and testing requirements, by vaccination status and destination, to ensure a safe return to Stanford.

Please be aware that all students who are not fully vaccinated and all students returning from international travel on or after Nov. 27, 2021, are required to restrict their activities as they wait for their test results, upon arriving back to campus.

If you or a close contact has tested positive for COVID-19, it is important that you follow the appropriate procedures to avoid further transmission.

You will receive an exposure notification if you have come into contact with an individual who has tested positive. Please take a deep breath and do not panic, as the university is here to support you when such a situation arises.

Depending on if you are a high-risk or lower-risk close contact, you will follow certain procedures to keep yourself and those around you safe. To learn more: studentaffairs.stanford.edu/have-you-or-close-contact-tested-positive

If at any point you develop symptoms, please take a Color test immediately and keep away from others.

Let’s continue to take care of one another and our community.

Hey students! Does the transition back to fall quarter already have you feeling low on energy? If so, chances are you may be sleep deprived! 🥱

According to Mental Health America, adults aged 18 and over should be getting at least 7 hours of sleep per night on a regular basis.

It is important to prioritize your sleep during this time, considering the amount of changes you have undergone and stress you may be experiencing, so that your body stays fueled for the day.

Check out this list of tips, brought to you by CAPS at Stanford, to help get you on a good sleeping schedule before the quarter further ramps up.

In June 2021, Stanford University’s Faculty Senate moved to recognize Election Day (November 2nd this year) as an academic holiday. On this day, instead of classes, students and faculty will celebrate dialogue, civic engagement, and participation in a slate of programming we’re calling Democracy Day. The program will include a deliberative poll, discussion-based dinners, peer-facilitated conversations, and a faculty panel on the intersection of academia and democratic citizenship. We hope you will join us!

Welcome to the Farm! We coordinate New Graduate Student Orientation (NGSO) every year to welcome and orient new graduate students to Stanford. This year, we are inviting both incoming students and rising second years (who weren't able to experience NGSO in-person last year) to attend. Our goal is to connect new graduate students with useful campus resources that will assist them during their time as graduate students.

We encourage all invited students to attend as many events as possible. NGSO offerings are designed to equip students with the skills and resources necessary to meet the challenges of graduate life. By the end of NGSO, we hope you will begin to see that home is where the Farm is.

For more info, visit ngso.stanford.edu.

Whether you have just submitted your final assignments for the summer quarter (Congrats!), or are preparing for your arrival to the Farm, you deserve some major R&R (rest and relaxation) before transitioning back to campus.

We encourage you to take these next weeks, before the fall quarter begins, to recharge your mind and body. Between navigating through a pandemic and managing your coursework, we can appreciate how exhausted you may be, physically and mentally.

We hope this list of tips will help you regain your energy back, especially as you prepare for the weeks to come. Use these tips to determine your needs and what form(s) of rest and relaxation is best for you. Some days may require a different form of relaxation and that is okay! Just listen to your body and try to avoid overworking yourself. You deserve a break.

We admire your resilience over this past year and we look forward to the quarters together to come.

Many times we hear about letting go of things that don’t serve us, but there are also times we should strive to make more space for the things that do!

As you transitioning back into school mode, consider adding some balance to your schedule with Stanford’s Health and Human Performance courses on wellness, leadership, physical education and more. Our lecturers aim to educate the whole human and are a transformative space to grow in.

We are excited to see you on the Farm in a few weeks. In order to ensure the safety and health of the Stanford community, new changes in COVID-19 guidance have been implemented.

Key things to know:
As of August 15, weekly surveillance testing is required for all, regardless of vaccination status.
Face coverings are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
All new student arrivals will be required to take a COVID-19 test on the day they arrive (Day 0) and Day 5, regardless of vaccination status.
Unvaccinated students are required to complete a daily Health Check. For those who are vaccinated, you no longer need to complete one.

All students coming to campus this autumn are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you have missed the deadline, please get vaccinated and upload proof of vaccination to the VadenPatient portal ASAP, as Vaden Health Services will place a hold on your Axess account and you will not be able to register for fall classes.

Please keep an eye on your Stanford email accounts, as well as visit studentaffairs.stanford.edu/covid-guidance, for all updates regarding COVID-19 guidance on campus.

We thank you for all you have done over the past year to work around the challenges that have come your way. Keep up the great work!

In order to continue to keep our community healthy and safe, Stanford now requires all faculty, staff, students, contractors, and visitors wear face coverings in indoor spaces.

Although our vaccination rates are well above 90% and cases remain low on campus, masking provides an extra level of protection against the highly transmissible Delta variant.

Swipe to learn more about when face coverings must be worn and the exceptions that apply.

We thank you for your patience, your vigilance and your efforts to keep one another safe as we plan for exciting times ahead.

We understand that there is a lot of information going around regarding COVID-19, whether it be from the news, public health guidance, fact sheets, infographics, research, opinions, rumors, myths, falsehoods, and more.

As a result of this flurry of information, many individuals are left confused because not all information being shared is accurate. Health misinformation is any information that is false, inaccurate, or misleading according to the best available evidence at the time.

This misinformation has led many people to decline COVID-19 vaccines, reject public health measures such as masking and physical distancing, and use unproven treatments. Together, we must confront this health misinformation so that we can ensure the safety and health of our communities.

To help you stick to the facts, we have curated a list of tips to help you discern false information from accurate, medical advice.

We understand how exhausting this pandemic has been and we thank you for your resilience. Now let's each do our part to stay informed and help to inform those around us.

With the Delta variant on the rise, we are taking proactive steps to ensure we continue to keep Stanford as safe and healthy as possible.

Vaccination continues to be our best defense against severe COVID-19 infection, yet breakthrough infections are possible. Please familiarize yourself with the common COVID-19 symptoms and follow the appropriate steps if you begin to experience any of the symptoms. Do not just assume that you have the common cold or allergies.

Please contact Vaden Health Services for additional guidance. Visit vaden.stanford.edu or call 650.498.2336

We thank you in advance for doing your part to keep yourself and those around you safe and healthy.
