We're all guilty of it. We see a hunter with mismatched camo with an old single-shot 12-gauge. And he's sporting his deer he just harvested on the back of his old truck. It's a doe or more than likely a smaller buck. But he's happy, and grinning from ear-to-ear like he just killed the new world record! So you laugh and joke with your buddies as he goes by. While leaning against your brand new truck, in your name brand matching camo.

But have you ever stopped to think that maybe the deer on the back of his truck means a lot more to him than just big antlers.... maybe he's a third shift blue collar worker at the local saw mill, just trying to pay his bills and keep gas in his old truck. Maybe he don't have the fancy game cameras and big food plots that you have. Or the big fancy hunting blinds, that cost more than his old truck. Maybe he's happy because he finally didn't have to work this weekend. So he decided to go hunting on the little piece of land that he's hunted since he was a boy, with the gun that his dad gave him when he turned 12 years old. More than likely he's not hunting to kill the next World Record. He could care less about the antlers.

But what he does care about is putting food on the table for his family at home, and knowing that they're going to eat good for now. And that my friends will put a smile on any true sportsman's face.

So good luck to all the hunters out there with the rest of your season. Just remember this, support each other and be happy for each other, no matter how big their harvest is, because to some folks it means a lot more then the size of the antlers.

It's funny how a farmer spends countless hours getting the land ready, from disking all the way to planting. He spends $1000's of dollars on fuel, equipment, and repair bills. He spends many hours praying for rain or sunshine instead of sleeping. He sweats like no other job will make you. He works like most people wouldn't. He gets yelled at and cussed out by people who get caught behind the tractor traveling down the road, and he spends many times of the day wondering if it's worth it! The deer, coyotes, hogs, c***s, gophers, grasshoppers are just a few pests to contend with!! He does all of this for what??? Ask yourself, "Why would he do that?" The answers are all around you. The plate of food sitting in front of you, the clothes on your back, the shoes on your feet, and the last answer is the one that puzzles most people. It's the dust, love for agriculture, and the satisfaction of knowing he had done his part at the end of the day! I'd like to thank all the farmers out there who help make the world go round!

THE DYING COW

A Short Moral Story.

A boy went to an old man and said to him.
"What is the biggest lesson that life has taught you?"

The old man paused for a moment and said.
"I'm sorry but I'm not in the mood to talk right now. I am deeply worried"

The boy asked.
"What's the matter, sir"

The old man responded.
"My pregnant cow has been in labour for more than twenty hours. I'm afraid she could die as the pain is excruciating"

The boy whistled.
"You have to do something about it"

The old man muttered.
"I have no knowledge about things like this. I'm old and weak, I can't do anything to help. But maybe if we seek the opinions and advice of other people, we could save my poor cow from dying. Don't you think so?"

The boy nodded his head, then the old man added.
"Do me a favour and take a walk down the road. You'll meet random people on your way. You will have to seek advice from at least four people. We need to know what their opinions are about my dying cow"

The boy left immediately, then returned about an hour later. He said to the old man.
"I was able to ask four people for their advice... The first person suggested you call the local vet immediately so that he can perform a surgery to remove the calf. The second person suggested you give the cow more time to give birth naturally, and that calling the vet won't be necessary. The third person suggested you kill the cow and sell the meat as she would eventually die. And the fourth person suggested you assist the cow by pulling the calf from the womb with your hands"

The old man said.
"Interesting, isn't it, that everyone's opinions differ so much. So which do you think I should follow?"

The boy thought for a while and said.
"I find the whole thing very confusing. Everyone gave a different piece of advice"

The old man smiled. Then he tapped the boy on his shoulder and said.

"I was actually kind of surprised when you asked me to tell you the biggest lesson that life has taught me. And instead of just saying it, I decided to let you experience it yourself. In doing so, I pretended as if my cow was in pain and needed help. It was a strategy to enable you to realize how different the opinions of people can be. The biggest lesson I've learned in life is that different people can look at the exact same thing and have different perspectives. We all have our own view of things. And just because someone's opinion is different than yours, it does not mean they are wrong. We shouldn't quarrel, fight or argue with others just because we feel that our opinion doesn't match theirs. We should learn to be open minded and respectful to people's opinions even if we don't agree with them.
