One Step at a Time

This painting went to its new home this weekend. It's the studio version of a small painting done out in the fields this past January.
I wanted to look at this view longer and larger, to watch the clouds moving away to the northeast and see the late afternoon light catch the treetops and footprints in the snow-covered fields.
To be able to share the experience of being out there through sharing a painting is kind of wonderful. ♥️

It's my tradition to paint these flowers every year, cut from the unruly bushes, overflowing with blossoms and buzzing with bees, that were planted so many years ago around my grandparents' house.

Red Wing Arts 17th Annual Plein Air is a unique opportunity to see art come to life and connect with the artists themselves. This year's event offers a rare opportunity to view 32 renowned artists “in action” and to purchase original scenic artwork of the area. Get to know the artists work and see them around town June 10-22.

Over 100 judged works will be hung and available for purchase in the Red Wing Arts Depot Gallery from June 24-August 20.

I found a spot in the sun, and mostly out of the wind, where the snow had drifted deep between the rows of apple trees and lingered through these longer, warmer days.

"Winding Through the Valley"

This painting was created from a plein air piece done about a year ago and a sketch done back on location earlier this winter. A favorite spot down in the valley, along the creek near a beaver dam. Late winter sunshine, blue sky, and cold clear water.

I'm so pleased to have this piece accepted into this year's American Impressionist Society, Inc. Small Works Showcase! The exhibit will be held April 14 - May 20, 2023 at The District Gallery in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Blue Heron Coffeehouse is a gem of a place in Winona, Minnesota, and I'll be showing some work there next month - stop by if you're in the area!
