They say a picture paints 1000 words.
This one paints so many more for me because there is so much in it.
Yes it’s me.
This is my one and only cover to date… for now 😊.
That wasn't the only first.
I was the first black woman to appear on the front of a yoga magazine anywhere in the world.
I'm pretty proud of that.
More importantly, this picture encapsulated the culmination of six years of trying to recover from chronic fatigue syndrome.
It also encapsulates why I do what I do.
I burned out very badly.
I had to leave a career in 2005 when I became unwell.
I believed it would be a short skip and a jump back to who I was and what I was doing.
The truth is, who I was then and what I was doing then was what was making me so fundamentally unhappy and also chronically unwell.
The road back was hard and long.
It took me six years before I could even begin to think about taking on the responsibility of working for anybody else because I couldn't trust my energy before then.
In that six years I learned so many things, but mostly about myself.
12 years on from then I am still learning.
It became my passion to tell anybody that would listen,
that I came into contact with or who would hear me,
then and now,
It doesn't have to be like this.
Don't come here.
Don't come to this place.
I was lucky.
It took six years to journey to the person I was always supposed to be and not the person I was, thank goodness.
That experience fuels my passion.
I want the women I work with to feel proactive and empowered in their careers, confident and authentic in who they are, and reach any level of success they aspire to, all while remaining well.
