"What do I even know about leather, aside from that I love it? Do I have the guts? Where the heck do I even start."
For two more years, I pined after carefully crafted bags, belts, and other accessories without doing anything about it.One day, my mother got a phone call. It was Marie -- my mom's late mother's late husband's widow (try following along with that one.) She was downsizing her home, and lots of my grandfather's belongings were still there, and she was wondering if we had any interest in them. WELL YES.
The man could make anything with his hands. Birdhouses, music boxes, ladders, card tables, you name it. When mom brought home his treasures, I discovered the most important of all -- his love of leather. Billy Wayne Oaks, a grandfather who I never met or knew much about, was the reason this love was ingrained deep within me. Intricately hand-tooled purses, leather card tables, and other pieces made with great attention to detail were right before my eyes. Kid in a candy store doesn't even begin to describe it. How deeply I wish he could have taught me the craft he seemed to be a master of.
There it was. Something my grandfather never knew he would give to me: the push to chase my dreams. The next day, I ordered a leather working kit, some leather, and I set forth in my journey. A dream that took root became a forest overnight.
The Name
How can I name the brand without limiting myself to only one type of product? It needed spice. It needed to be catchy. And it needed to encompass all my passions. Not only leather, but clothing, books, home goods, textiles, and more. Hyde came from the love of leather. Seam came from the stitching of clothing, the spine of a book, and the idea of two loves joining as one. Old loves, new creations, and rebirth all merged together under one name.
Our Goods
The items in the shop vary in origin. Some are made by myself or other family members (such as leather bags made by my grandfather himself.) Some were handmade by other people. Some were simply stumbled upon and given a second chance. Check out the shop and maybe you'll find that "thing" you've been looking for!

Its me, Madge! I'm an ~almost~ Auburn University grad with a degree in Architecture. Lover of cheeseburgers, my Irish Wolfhound Winston, & flowers. My architecture degree led my love for design in another direction. So here I am. Just a girl trying to dive deeper into a shared love in hopes of connecting to a grandfather I'll never know. A girl trying to learn patience through cultivation. A girl pursuing a passion. And a woman chasing a dream.
