Michelangelo’s Handwritten 16th-Century Grocery List 30/12/2019

Everyone has to go grocery shopping. Even Michelangelo.

Michelangelo’s Handwritten 16th-Century Grocery List I admit to having a hard time keeping grocery lists. Do I write them by hand? If so, do I do it in a dedicated notebook, on a refrigerator pad, or on any old scrap I find around? Do I compose them electronically, using some combination of my computer, my phone, and other, more specialized devices? A...

A great idea from Bec The Guide.

If you are heading to Florence be sure to visit one of my favourite churches: San Miniato al Monte. Perched up on the hill over on the other side of the River Arno this church has a long history dating back to 1018, with mosaics from the 13th Century. It is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany. Don't miss the monks singing vespers in the early evening, one of my favourite Florence experiences!

Anthony Bourdain committed su***de today. He was here in Florence when the students arrived. Here is a pic of him at Cibreo just a couple of blocks from the student apartment. He was a great food writer and personality that did not need funny hair or a crazy personality to succeed in telling the story of people and their food traditions.

Just when you thought you were happy and smiling and all was right with the world.. then it wasn’t? So sad for the loss of Anthony Bordain. This picture was taken less than two weeks ago in Florence a stones throw away. I will keep going into “parts unknown”. I will keep the faith, carry the conversation, explore the back roads, the hidden gems, the un-sung culinary hero/heroine. I will continúe to carry the flame of cultural and culinary diversity.
Long live cooks who cook, and food artisans who put themselves out every day. We have lost a rebel and it wasn’t because he didn’t care. More than likely he cared too much.
