It’s Mugshot Monday!!!!

And I have some more stacking mugs to share. 😊

Please put the CERA Arts Festival on your calendar for October 12 and 13. For those of you not familiar with CERA’s location, it’s next to Whole Foods on Bryant Irvin.

It’s a great festival. Lots of demos. You can glaze a piece and have it raku fired the same day. Always so much fun for everyone.

I will have so many new pieces available that I can’t wait to share.

It’s Mugshot Monday!!!!

This is a new handbuilt mug form I’ve added to my pottery inventory. It’s called a nesting or stacking mug that will save space in your kitchen cabinets. Thank you to Alexandria Pottery for coming up with the jig for creating this new form.

This stackable mug holds a generous 16 ounces (2 cups) which also makes it a lovely container for soup, cereal, or ice cream.

POTTERS NOTES:
Laguna BMix 5 fired to cone 5.5
The glaze is a new Spectrum Floating Glaze called Sunrise x 2

It’s Mugshot Monday!!! This is another test mug.

I started with 3 coats of Amaco’s River Birch. Then I layered 2 coats of different Spectrum Floating glazes to about an inch above the bottom of the River Birch.

This test mug shows me what the colors do over the River Birch and also how much they run.

Photo #1 (handle on the right) going right from the handle to the left. Kimchi, Sangria, Autumn Purple, Morning Glory

Photo #2 (no handle visible) from the right to the left. Floating Turquoise, Sunrise, Spanish Moss

Photo #3 (handle on the left) from the right to the left. Spanish Moss, Papaya, Tiger Eye, Louisiana Bayou, Fuzzy Peach (on handle)

I just pulled this lovely cake stand from the kiln. It’s a prototype because I created it with two functions in mind. In addition to being a cake stand, you can flip it over and use it as a chip and dip or veggies and dip server.

The foot of the cake stand which also serves as a dip bowl, unfortunately slightly lost its round during the glaze firing. It’s not terrible, but I’m going to try something slightly different in the next one I make. Pottery making is such a process of trial and error. It definitely keeps you humble. 🤪😬

POTTERY NOTES:
The clay is Armadillo’s Buffalo Wallow and was fired to cone 5.5. The glaze is a studio glaze called Antique White which breaks so nicely on texture.

My son’s birthday was on July 22 and my son-in-law’s birthday is today, August 21.

I decided to make them both a shot glass set. After making the set I used a cookie cutter to measure the exact opening in the middle of the set. I went to the liquor store with the cookie cutter on my arm like a bracelet. Every tequila bottle had to pass the cookie cutter test to see if it would fit.

Happy Birthday Mark and Cade. I love you both!!!

This is my last Ghost Kitties post (at least for a while). A slightly different version than shared before. 👻🐱

Well… my ghost kitties came out just fine and all three finishes look great. It’s just the shiny finish doesn’t photograph as well. 👻👻👻🐱🐱🐱

I’ve been working slowly but surely in my hot garage to prepare for the fall and winter craft shows. Once the temp hits about 90 (usually around 10:30 am), I call it a day.

These are some soy candles in pottery containers that can be repurposed after the candle has burned down. All of my candle cups have thumb dimples that make them perfect to use as a wine cup. Of course they can be used for juice, water, milk, etc. I do love the idea of making dual purpose items.

POTTERS NOTES:
Photo #1 - Fresh Cut Grass scent. Laguna Buff clay fired to cone 5.5. The leaves and dandelions are assorted Mayco Stroke and Coat applied with a needle nose bottle. The glaze is Spectrum Cactus.

Photo #2 - Watermelon Lemonade scent. The clay is Laguna BMix5 fired to cone 5.5. The glazes are Spectrum Kimchi, Laguna Emeraude, and Spectrum Soft White where the two glazes meet.

Photo #3 - Coffee House scent. Laguna Buff clay fired to cone 5.5. The glazes are Amaco Blue Midnight, Mayco Winterwood, and Mayco Light Flux on the rim.

Photo #4 - Salty Sea Air scent. Laguna Buff clay fired to cone 5.5. The glazes are Mayco Cenote and Indigo Rain.

Ghost kitties are in the works for my shops and an October show.

The kitties in the first picture were just made this morning and once they’ve dried a bit to leatherhard, they’ll be cleaned up and flowers will be painted along the bottom. The second picture is some kitties that are bone dry and ready to be fired to bisque.

It’s Mugshot Monday!!!! This TCU (Texas Christian University) mug is one of my latest mugs. Finding a purple glaze that breaks on texture has been soooooo hard.

Go Frogs!!!!!

POTTERS NOTES:
The clay is Laguna BMix5 fired to cone 5.5. The glaze is Georgie’s Blue Violet lightly wiped back to allow the texture to show through.

Welp….. it’s 98° in Texas in July and I’m in my hot garage making little Christmas trees on the wheel. That’s how potters roll. Lots more to come. 🥵🌲

I just pulled a bunch of candle cups out of kiln. I plan to fill them with soy wax this weekend.

This classy glaze combo is one I did a few years ago I had forgotten how much I love it. Now I’m planning on making some more candle cups as well as some regular mugs with this combo.

POTTERS NOTES:
Laguna Buff clay fired to cone 5 1/2. Amaco Blue Midnight x 4 inside and the bottom 2/3 of the cup. Mayco Winterwood x 2 on top 1/3. Mayco Light Flux x 2 on the rim.

And it’s Mugshot Monday!!! New Texas Wildflower mugs out of the kiln.

Painting all those tiny leaves and flowers takes about an hour extra per mug over and above the time for making and glazing. I love the results so much that I just keep at it. 🌸🌼🌷

I’m now making shot glasses.

What else can you do with shot glasses if you don’t drink shots??? They can hold cotton swabs, matches, be used as a small vase.

My grandkids have their own personal shot glasses (different colors) in the bathroom drawer for when they spend the night. They use their glass for rinsing out their mouth after brushing their teeth. They’re the perfect size for little hands.

Oops… almost forgot it’s time for a Mugshot Monday posting. I unloaded my little kiln this morning, polished all the bottoms so no one’s furniture is scratched when one of my pieces is sitting on it, and then took some pictures.

I have some new kitty mugs out now. I like to call this one Harry Potter Unicorn Kitty. It’s a thing, right?

POTTERS NOTES:
The clay is Laguna BMix5 fired to cone 5 1/2. The glaze is Coyote Aqua with the details on the kitty painted on with Mayco Stroke and Coat glazes. The Kitties underglaze transfer is by Ceramica. 😽

It’s Mugshot Monday!!!! An homage to Taylor Swift and her The Tortured Poets Department. What an awesome album!!! I listen to it every time I’m working in the garage. 🫶

POTTERS NOTES:
The clay a Laguna BMix5 fired to cone 5 1/2.
The glaze is Mayco Stroke and Coat Lavendear. 💜

Last year I started making Pocket Hugs for Valentines Day. I thought of them as a small add on purchase. I was caught by surprise that people were purchasing 5 or 6 (or even more) at a time.

One of my customers explained everyone she knows is going through something with their spouse or kids or parents or job or health. Everyone has something on their plate that they’re dealing with.

These little pocket hugs are the perfect thing to keep on hand to give to someone dealing with something. They also slip easily into a card. 💙💜🩷🩵❤️💚💛
