A Harare resident, Nigel Kunyeya, 29, has been detained for possession of co***ne at the State House, according to Crime Watch Zimbabwe.

Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi reported in court that Kunyeya, from Mabelreign, Harare, arrived at the State House on May 22, 2024, around 7:50 a.m. in an unregistered black and white Toyota Fortuner.

Kunyeya reportedly sought a meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to discuss personal issues. Police officers, noticing his suspicious behavior, searched him and his vehicle, discovering a sachet of co***ne and nine empty sachets with co***ne residue in his jacket's right pocket.

No additional contraband was found in the vehicle. Kunyeya and the confiscated co***ne were taken to CID Drugs Harare for further investigation. A field drug test, conducted in Kunyeya’s presence, confirmed the substance was co***ne.

The co***ne, weighing approximately 0.42 grams with a street value of ZiG520, was measured in his presence.

Magistrate Dennis Mangosi questioned Kunyeya about his intentions, to which Kunyeya responded that he was trying to book an appointment for another individual and had no plans to meet the President. He also claimed the car was not his.

Kunyeya is scheduled to appear in court again on May 27.

Youth Service in Zimbabwe Relaunches!

Starting this June, the Youth Service in Zimbabwe (YSZ) will enroll 750 youths from all provinces in a six-month training program. Announced by Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere, YSZ aims to promote service, nation-building, and prevent issues like drug abuse. The program includes training, community service, and certification, with plans to train 10,000 youths in 2024.
