Happy Pride Week Toronto! 🏳️‍🌈✨️

Every day, but especially during Pride Month, we want to thank and recognize the 2SLGBTQ+ community for the work they have done to fight social stigmas and create inclusive and stronger communities for all. We are proud to join the celebration with our staff, guests and community members who are part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

At St. Felix Centre, we are committed to continue educating ourselves and our community about how we can build safer spaces that include everyone. Our doors will be always open to anyone seeking support, welcoming all people of all gender identities, faiths, cultures, and abilities.

We are always touched when community members find ways to support people experiencing homelessness, but it is especially heartwarming when we see youth taking action in their community. 💙

We were recently approached by a few Grade 10 students from Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School who were participating in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI). During the YPI, students learn more about social issues and select a charity to research and make a presentation about, and can win a grant to present to the charity selected.

We were beyond honoured when the students selected St. Felix Centre as the charity to present for their YPI project! The students did an amazing and informative presentation about St. Felix Centre and our programs, and ultimately won the competition! As the winners, they also presented us with a grant of $5,000! ✨️

This week we welcomed the team from to the Centre for their volunteer day! The team volunteered at the St. Felix Transitional House and helped us with repainting a few of the bedrooms so that they are ready for any new move ins.

The rooms look beautiful, and will have a great impact on the residents of the House by providing a bright, positive living space for them as they work on their individual goals. The Raymond James team also made a generous donation which will go a long way in helping us support our residents.

While we are all looking forward to the summer, heat strokes and heat exhaustion can be detrimental for people experiencing homelessness. The items donated will help our guests enjoy the warmer weather while staying safe and hydrated. ☀️😎

Construction Update! 👷 We are so thrilled to share the first glimpse of what the apartment units in our upcoming affordable housing building will look like! Swipe to take a look at the kitchen and washroom in the completed units 👉

The building is scheduled to open at the end of this year, and will soon be a safe, supportive, permanent home for a wonderful community of women & women with children. 💙 

This building will also provide us with the unique opportunity to offer permanent housing to our female-identifying respite guests and transitional house residents who are ready to take the next step in their journey to independent living. We can't wait to see some amazing women thriving with their families in this space!

This Wednesday, our casework team put together a special activity to celebrate Eid with our guests 🎉

We enjoyed a traditional snack of samosas and masala chai from a local vendor, and spent some quality time with guests at our 69 Fraser respite site.

We were beyond honoured last week when and .inc reached out with an incredible idea they had to support our Centre, and people experiencing homelessness in Toronto. 🫶

NKPR, along with the wonderful folks at , , , , and wanted to embrace the spirit of April Fool's Day to make a fun mockumentary video that the CN tower would be turned into a luxury condo building. Being part of the PR and Real Estate world, they felt this would be a creative way to bring light to an important issue in our city, all while having fun and raising funds for St. Felix Centre. We, of course, loved the idea and were so grateful to be chosen for this amazing initiative!

Thank you to the incredible teams involved in making this possible, and thank you for the incredible donation of over $20k! We are so grateful for your support in advocating for those experiencing homelessness in our city. These funds will go a long way as we continue to work towards affordable housing for all. 💙

Today we honour and celebrate all the incredible, compassionate, and brave women that make St. Felix Centre special! We are proud to be an organization founded by a group of strong women, the , and are proud to have passionate women serving in all levels of our Centre.

We are also grateful for all the wonderful women who volunteered their time with us, and our amazing female-identifying guests who are kind enough to share their story with us 🫶🏽

We celebrated the day with a special lunch for guests at our 69 Fraser site! Thank you to our friends at IAMGOLD for sponsoring and serving today's lunch, and to our HR Director for the delicious homemade cookies!

Our 6th Coldest Night of the Year was an incredible success! ❄️

It was so wonderful to see so many of our supporters in one room, and to celebrate your fundraising efforts together in person! Together, we have raised over $75,000 in support of people experiencing homelessness in our city! These funds will go a long way in helping us transform lives in our community, and we could not have done this without your support. Thank you for your compassion, your kindness, and your ongoing support for St. Felix Centre. 💙

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to every single person that joined our CNOY 2024 - whether you fundraised and walked with us, donated to a team, volunteered for the event, or helped us spread awareness about the cause - each one of you has played a role in the success of this event.

Today, St. Felix Centre joins many across Canada in recognizing Black History Month. Not just in February, but through the whole year, we honour the history and the many contributions of Black Canadians and their communities. We celebrate our incredible guests, staff, volunteers, and supporters who identify as part of the Black Canadian community. 💙

While we take this opportunity to recognize all the important contributions that the Black Canadian community has shared with the world,  it is important to recognize that we still have lengths to go to achieve true equality and break down the many barriers that the Black Community regularly face due to systemic discrimination. Let us continue working together to provide equal opportunities in a truly inclusive and diverse environment, where Black communities feel heard and supported.

As many of you know, Coldest Night of the Year is an annual Canada-wide fundraiser where we come together to raise awareness (and funds!) for people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and poverty in our community.

This will be our 6th year participating in CNOY, and it's an extremely important year for us. The funds raised through this year's event will be used to support our new housing project at 25 Augusta Avenue to provide safe, supportive, permanent housing for women & women with children.

We have some exciting news to share! ✨

We have officially started the demolition and construction process at 25 Augusta Avenue to redevelop the property for our deeply affordable, supportive, permanent housing for women and women with children. This has been a long time dream for the Centre, and it's so heartwarming to see it finally come to life! Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years and brought us to this point. 💙

The site will feature 31 fully equipped units, a dedicated team of caseworkers, and several wrap around services to ensure that the women are supported and can remain housed. The completion of this project, along with the existing St. Felix Transitional House, will result in the entire property at 25 Augusta being dedicated as a safe space for women to live and thrive. 

The funds raised through our Lighting the Way campaign will also be used to support several different initiatives for this special housing project. If you have the means, please consider making a donation online to help us make this dream a reality.  🙏💙

The team at FundThrough delivered 100 packed lunch bags to our 69 Fraser location this morning. We were able to hand out the lunch bags to our guests, and also had enough to keep in case anyone stopped by our site looking for a meal. FundThrough has been a strong supporter of our Community Meals Program, and has made several lunch donations at our 25 Augusta site over the years, and this time they agreed to come out to Liberty Village! 

Thank you  for all the kindness you show towards our guests. We are so lucky to have neighbours like you in our community! 💙

This morning our Communications team was invited by to give a presentation at their office about the Centre and our programs. We had a wonderful time meeting the Workday team and sharing a little bit about our story!

The team went above and beyond and organized a donation drive in support of our PAWS program - they donated pet food, treats, toys, and many other items that we are sure our furry friends will love! Workday also made a financial donation towards St. Felix Centre and we are so grateful for their support! Thank you so much to the Workday team for the invitation and the incredible support for our Centre! 🐶🐱💙

Christmas is almost around the corner, and we are gearing up for a very exciting 2024! 🎄 We have many exciting new projects on the horizon for our Centre and we can't wait to get started and create something special for our guests. ✨

Over the last few months we have seen a high influx of immigrants and refugees seeking support at the Centre. We know that this time of year is hard for many of our guests, but especially for our refugee guests who are so far away from home.

Our casework team wanted to make sure that these guests feel seen and cared for at this time of year, in a way that feels special for them. We know that nothing can break down barriers and bring communities together like sharing a meal, and so our casework team decided to organize a special Nigerian lunch catered by so that our guests could enjoy a taste of home and spend some quality time together. The lunch was a hit, and we hope to organize another day like this soon!

Our casework team is dedicated to working with our guests on a one-to-one basis so that they can feel welcomed, comfortable, and supported on their journey towards their goals.
