Get Your CrayOn! Get Your Cray-On with fun and inspiring activities and crafts for your little one!
A few marbles and some paint kept this one busy for quite awhile this afternoon!
Carlie and I made our "5 Minute Kool-Aid Playdough" today! So easy and so much fun! It's a great opportunity to let your kiddo help you measure, mix, and knead the dough...plus it smells delicious!
We have tried a few recipes...here is our favorite:
1 1/2 cup of flour + additional flour for kneading surface
1/4 cup of salt
1 teaspoon of Cream of Tartar
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 Koolaid packet
3/4 cup of water
Add all the dry ingredients in a microwave safe and then add in the oil and water. Mix until dough is wet. Put the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Take it out and scrape the sides, then allow to sit for a minute to cool. Sprinkle flour on your kneading surface and scrape dough out. Knead until smooth. You will probably have to add more flour as you need. If your dough is crumbly, add a few drops of water or oil.
We LOVE science here at "Get Your CrayOn" and tonight we did a super cool experiment with candy hearts!

Carlie LOVES using candy hearts as manipulatives on her Valentine ten-frame mats.
Ten frames can be used to build number sense, help students gain mental math fluency, and to better understand how to use the math strategies of composing and decomposing numbers, to complete operations. Having preschoolers count items on ten-frames gives them a strong foundation in these skills before they reach kindergarten - and it's fun too!

Let's talk scissor skills! Carlie's amazing preschool teachers use this trick that was a total game changer (yet so simple!). They drew a "smiley" face at the top of all their scissors and the kids know they have to be able to see the smiley face and that their thumb goes in that hole.

Another favorite cold weather, no-mess activity...Wikki Sticks! If you haven't used these amazing wax colored yarn pieces, then you are missing out. They are relatively cheap and can be used over, and over, and over...(and over!). Best part? They don't make a mess! You just scoop them up and throw them in a ziplock bag. They are great for days inside or to keep kiddos occupied at a restaurant.
I bought a kit so Carlie could practice making her letters, but there are a TON of free templates available online!
