Cranio Que is a competition BBQ team dedicated to spreading awareness about Craniosynostosis as well as making some amazing BBQ along the way!
WHAT IS CRANIOSYNOSTOSIS? Craniosynostosis is a rare condition in which a baby develops or is born with an abnormally shaped skull. It happens as a result of one or more of the infant's cranial sutures (cracks in the skull) fusing too early. Normally an infant's skull is made up seven bones, with gaps (cranial sutures) between them that do not fuse until the child is approximately two years old, t
his allows their brain to grow and develop.

OUR JOURNEY
In 2011 my son Jacob was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis. As a first time parent I had no idea what this condition was or how to treat it. As I took to the internet to try to make sense of it all I found out it would require an extensive surgery and recovery. Jacob took the surgery like a champ and recovered quickly. What I remember most from the experience is that we were so blindsided by this condition. When I found out that Craniosynostosis occurs once in every 2,000 births I just sat and wondered how could we have NEVER heard of such a condition. In 2012 my daughter Maci was diagnosed with Cranio. Maci's surgery will be in July. Since finding this out I have made it a goal of mine to spread awareness about Cranio. Recently I have been studying BBQ and ventured into the competition circuit. I wanted to come up with a team name and logo that made people ask questions. Cranio Que was born February 22, 2013 at our first competition in Bossier City, Louisiana. I love the competition spirit, but I love even more the idea of spreading awareness about something that has affected my life so tremendously. When competition day comes were not just BBQing for fun...were Que'in for Kids!
