Wednesday we wrapped up an awesome PFFPNC conference with Locals across North Carolina. We heard from several IAFF representatives on different programs and opportunities available.
- PFFPNC President Scott Mullins celebrated the decade long efforts of the PFFPNC that resulted in a cancer presumption bill in the NC legislation. Since it's ratification January 1, 2022, 139 NC firefighters have received state funded cancer payments for treatment.
- NC Senator Todd Johnson was our keynote speaker and remains instrumental in our legislative fights
- IAFF’s General President Edward A. Kelly and General Secretary/Treasurer Frank Lima are leading the federal fight for passing firefighter cancer legislation and reaffirmed our efforts towards collective bargaining in NC.
-Huge victories for due process this year in Greensboro and Winston-Salem on their civil service board passage. Greensboro Union President Dave Coker's leadership is an inspiration. We look to follow his initiatives.
- We are bringing tons of resources back to our members in healthcare, retirement, financial planning, and mental health.

2023 has been a banner year for firefighters in NC. We continue to march lockstep into 2024 for better wages, better benefits, and better safety for YOUR NC firefighters.

Firefighters deserve better than to have to beg for what they are owed. Watch Local 2370 Vice President Ethan Chirico address city council and call on them to uphold their own written pay policies. The way the city treats its firefighters says a lot about them; right now their inaction is screaming over their lip service.
Stand with us! Contact the city and hold them accountable.

We are mourning the loss of a great man and a great firefighter. Firefighter Goodman was assigned to Ladder 34 at Kannapolis Fire Department and also use to work for Salisbury Fire. Many members knew him very closely and it is a tragic loss to both friends and family. We continue our thoughts and prayers with the family in this difficult time. You will be greatly missed. *Resigned* Firefighter Leone works his last shift today after 2 years of service to the citizens of Salisbury and 23 years total as a fire service veteran. Moving on to a neighboring municipality for more money to support his wife and growing family.

Firefighter Leone accomplished many things in service of the city including
2 Residential fires with victims trapped as the nozzle man
Helping instruct multiple academies
Helping on the physical agility panel for new hires
Assisted with many committees including turn out gear, new apparatus, etc.

He will be missed and it is a big loss to the citizens to be losing such an asset to the department.

*Working Fire w/Rescue* 6/3 at approximately 0001 hours units are dispatched to a fire alarm in the 800 block of Confederate Av. Engine 3 arrived first to find nothing showing initially, upon further investigation smoke conditions were found in the residence and it was upgraded to a working fire. Engine 3 stretched an attack line while also getting information about a possible trapped victim. Quick entry was made for both suppression and search of life by Engine 3 & Ladder 1 and a victim was located and rescued by your Salisbury Firefighters.

This was just one of the 39 calls ran by crews in the 24 hour time frame. Multiple other alarms, shootings, vehicle accidents and medical emergencies tied up crews for the entire day and night, even after this fire. We are proud to serve our community.

The City of Salisbury should take note of the failure to retain firefighters after their 3rd year. These firefighters take skills, experience, and confidence that can not be replaced overnight. Not to mention adding to the list of staffing shortages.

In two months we have lost expert firefighters from Rescue 2; Cody Martin and Zach Peeples. We are going to miss them dearly but wish them luck and success in their futures.
