We all have a genius and along with it comes a shadow. We can either allow the shadow to obscure our genius, or we can shed light on our shadow in order to fully step into our genius. It takes some deep inner-work, but it is worth it.

You think perfectionism is serving you.

It helps you appear polished and put together.

It helps you create work worthy of compliments.

It helps you get good grades or performance reviews at work.

It may even help you get likes on social media.

But...think about how many things you do out of perfectionism that are not for you, but rather to serve what others think of you.

So, what is perfectionism truly doing for YOU?

It’s robbing you from being present.

It’s stopping you from pursuing dreams and goals.

It’s creating a lack of trust within yourself.

It’s halting you from stepping into your true identity.

It’s stifling your creativity and flow.

It’s causing disconnection with the people you love.

It’s paralyzing your progress.

It’s tempting you to buffer with unhealthy escapes.

It’s preventing you from being your authentic self.

It’s creating anxiety, stress and worry.

It’s putting pressure on you and those closest to you.

It’s producing a lot of self-judgment and judgment on others.

It’s sneaking into your relationships.

It’s keeping you in fear, guilt and shame.

It's blinding you from the true problem that lies underneath.

Let's see if we can't order up something a bit healthier for you.

Much love,

Syrup for the Soul

I love butterflies. I remember trying to catch them when I was young. Did you do this too? I wanted to see them up close, admire their beauty and perhaps even keep one.

They were hard to catch, so hard in fact that when I did happen to catch one, I closed my hands tightly around it afraid that it might get away. I smothered and stifled the butterfly unintentionally. Then, when I finally decided to let go, sometimes the poor little thing could no longer fly. The fear of losing it had inadvertently caused me to hold on just a little too tight.

Our dreams and desires are a lot like this. They are so precious to us, so beautiful, so important, that we sometimes squeeze the life out of them. We do not give them air to breathe and space to flap their wings. We want it so much that we close ourselves off to the receiving of it through our own impatience, our need to control and manipulate how it comes, our fear of sharing it, our inability to believe that it already exists for us, our focus on the lack rather than the abundance. It is in the letting go that we create space to receive. It is in the sitting still and allowing the butterfly to come to us and light when and where it might, that creates peace, harmony and beauty.

There have been a few times in my life where I have been able to walk through a kaleidoscope of butterflies. In those magical moments I have not wished to catch a single one. I just allowed myself to experience the flurry, the fluttering, the flying, the flow. What if we could make our dreams so?

What are you holding onto tightly? Where could you loosen your grip a bit? How could letting go actually prepare you to receive?

It seems counterintuitive, but it works. I am learning to sit still and receive the swarm instead of stifling the one.

Much love,

Sryup4theSoul

Something I am noticing more and more is our tendency to edit ourselves in order to be less us.

When we believe that we need to be less like ourselves, we are essentially saying that there is something wrong with us as we are.

We do not fully accept ourselves in the present and therefore fear that others will not accept us either.

Operating our lives from that space is exhausting as we continue to chase a mirage of perfection.

That perfection is not a standard, but a made-up perception of what we think the world wants from us.

What do you want from you?

Once you lean into this, you will start to let go of editing yourself into a smaller and more condensed version of you.

You will start to live life on your terms. Authentically.

I coach people to do just that.

I am a perfectionism coach. I help youth and adults overcome paralyzing perfectionism and "not enough-ness" so that they can allow life to flow without hesitation, fully embracing and trusting where they are right now.

DM me for a consultation. Let's find out how my 1:1 program could help you step into authenticity and propel you forward past perfectionism.

Much love,

Angie
