THE WORD, MY LIFE

Sunday 9th April, 2023

DEATH IS NO LONGER MASTER OVER CHRIST.

knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. Romans 6:9(NASB)

We who by God's grace have been placed IN Christ by faith, are identified with Him and He with us. Indeed when we start to truly understand the significance and importance of our mutual identity, we begin to understand the depth of the riches of both the wisdom of God and His gracious love towards us.

Christ identified with our sin and took the punishment that we deserve, so that we might identify with His righteousness, by faith and not only be remitted of our sin, but also receive in our body His very life. For as by one man (Adam), sin entered the world and death gained access because of sin, so also by one MAN (Christ Jesus) the price of sin has been paid. Christ, the sacrificial Lamb of God paid the price for sin, so that His righteous, His eternal resurrected life could become the present and eternal possession of all who trust in Him by faith.

The eternal, resurrected life of Christ is given to all believers, to empower us to live each day as Christ lived in spirit which is the truth. Christ's righteous, risen, eternal life is not only a confident, future certainty but it is also our present, practical possession. The eternal, resurrected life of Christ, which we receive at the point of our salvation has all we need for life and godliness in this earthly realm and in the world to come, life everlasting. But sadly the truth of Christ's identification with us and our identification with Him is often ignored, missed or completely misunderstood.

Death had no power over the eternal Son of the eternal God for in Him is eternal LIFE. But as the eternal Son of God, He laid aside His glory and came to earth as the perfect, sinless Son of Man. Christ Jesus took on human flesh, was born into the human race and lived amongst us, being tempted just as we are, yet without sin. And because Christ Jesus lived a sinless human life, the icy fingers of death and the cruel curse of the Law had no power over Him. The wages of sin are death but the perfect Son of Man lived a sinless life and so death had no claim on Him.

BUT God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to become the sin-substitute for the world and the Lord Christ Jesus willingly gave up His own life in order to become the perfect sacrifice and the one acceptable ransom price for the sin of the whole world. To glorify His Father He willingly took OUR sin upon Himself and became the prey of death. Christ Jesus willingly offered up His sinless life in our place, so that by faith in His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection we might be made the righteousness of God, in Him.

Death was powerless over the eternal Son of God. Death could not hold Him in the place of death once He had sacrificed His perfect, sinless life on our account. And so on the third day, as prophesied in Scripture the perfect Son of Man was raised from up from the grave conquering death on behalf of every man, who would trust in His name.

Christ rose victorious from the grave never, ever to die again. His death became our death and the price for our sin was paid in full. But His resurrected, eternal life became our eternally resurrected life, for just as He identified with our sin and died on our account, so we by grace through faith are identified with His life. We died and were buried with Him through baptism into Him death and like Christ we too are raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.

Because we believe in Christ by faith we are identified with Him and made one with Him. Christ has been raised from the dead and we too are identified with His resurrected life. Christ, having been raised from the dead is never to die again and we who are identified with His life by faith have the same relationship with death, for in Christ we have eternal life, never to die again. The price of sin has been paid and death no longer has power in our life, for we are one with Christ forever and ever, amen.

CONFESSION: Heavenly Father, thank You that Christ Jesus identified with my sin and took the death sentence that I deserved and thank You that by faith in Him I am identified with His eternal resurrected life. To Him be all praise and glory, AMEN.

THE WORD, MY LIFE.

Monday 27th March, 2023

GOD TESTIFYING BY SIGNS, WONDERS, MIRACLES AND GIFT.

God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will. Hebrews 2:4(NASB)

God Himself bore audible witness to the truth of Christ's Messianic role, as did our Lord's own life and ministry so that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing we might have life in Him. Christ's own disciples also bore testimony to the truth of His Word which was further validated at Pentecost, when the hearts of many men were pierced with the shocking truth that the One Whom they crucified was both Lord and Christ.

The person and work of Jesus was testified by God the Father and was validated by the prophesied Messianic signs, wonders, and miracles that He Himself carried out in His life and ministry and which continued into those early years of the fledgling Church. And in God's grace, this testimony is also displayed in our own lives by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, for He gives to each one according to His own perfect will and wisdom.

The promises of God are steadfast and sure, and they stand secure on the unchangeable and trustworthy character of God. For this reason, we are exhorted to pay much close attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away from the truth of the glorious gospel, nor are swept along by every wind of doctrine.

The Bible also warns us to give heed to the Word of God and outlines the consequences of giving insufficient attention to the witness of Scripture. And yet, we live in a world that has outlawed God's Word and poured scorn on His holy character.

Old Testament Scriptures testified of Israel's coming Messiah. They outlined in detail many signs, wonders, and various miracles that would corroborate Christ's legitimacy and authenticate His Messianic claims. As prophesied He healed the sick, raised the dead, cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind, unblocked the ears of the deaf, and preached salvation to whosoever would believe on His name.

He also gave certain Messianic gifts to His apostles and many of His disciples, whom He sent out in His name, teaching and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and the hope of salvation to none but the lost sheep of the house of Israel, the Jew, first. After His Resurrection, salvation was preached to Gentiles also.

Oh yes, God went to great lengths to ensure that neither His chosen people nor Gentiles in the Church age could miss the arrival of the promised Seed of the woman. God testified to pre-Cross Israel as well as to the post-Cross Church in every way possible to bring us to faith in Christ's finished work on Calvary, for it is not His will that any should perish but that all come to faith in Him. How vital therefore that we pay heed to His Word, trust in His eternal promises, and not neglect our eternal salvation.

God wrote history in advance so that no one would miss the arrival of the Saviour of the world. He came 2023years ago as our Kinsman-Redeemer to save us from our sins, and despite being rejected and condemned by His own people and crucified by the Gentiles, He is soon returning to complete all that has been foretold of Him, by His holy apostles and prophets.

The testimony of God is recorded in the Scriptures. It is steadfast and sure, and stands secure on the unchangeable and trustworthy character of God Who in His grace has warned us not to neglect our salvation. He testified to the truth of His Word both by signs and wonders and by various miracles, which He used to provoke His chosen people to jealousy, but also by the many gifts of the Holy Spirit which God in His grace bestows on all His blood-bought children, according to the purpose of His own will.

Let us not be influenced by the secular mind-set of the world, but trust the testimony of God Himself. And let us hold fast to the unchanging and unchangeable character of God Who loved the world so much that He gave His life so that we might live.

CONFESSION: Heavenly Father, thank You for the many evidences in the Word of God and in my own personal life, of Your unchanging character. Thank you for the unchangeable truth in Scripture and the many signs that authenticate Christ's Person and work. May I live to Your praise and glory and tell forth the truth of the glorious gospel of grace while there is still time. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

THE WORD, MY LIFE

Sunday 26th March, 2023

DO YOU KNOW LOVE OR UNDERSTAND LOVE?

We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16(NASB)

Many believers like to focus on the love of Jesus because they think that this will cause unbelievers to get saved but they prefer to allow Christ's death, burial and resurrection to be side-lined in a blurry background, in case it offends or puts the unbeliever off the Christian faith!

But the shed blood of the incarnate Son of God Who was born into His own creation, and the immutable love of the eternal Father are inseparably interwoven and irrevocably united together.

It was LOVE that caused the almighty God to send His only begotten Son into the world to become the sin-sacrifice for the entire race of humanity and it was love that caused the Lord Christ Jesus to lay down His life for us. It was love that caused the Lord Jesus to be crucified on a cruel cross willingly, so that all who believe on Him might not perish but have everlasting life.

The Lord Christ Jesus offered the supreme example of ultimate love when He laid down His life for friends and enemies alike. Love is manifest in its highest measure at the cross of Calvary and as His children we ought also to lay down our lives in the same way for our brethren.

Mankind is crumpling under the weight of sin and collapsing under the satanic influence of evil, which is suffocating a world in distress, but the true character of the spiritual Christian is based on a godly love and stands in stark contrast with the evil hatred that reigns supreme over this fallen world system.

We cannot begin to imagine what it cost God the Father to turn His back on His only begotten Son and pour out the full force of The world sin upon HIM. It was for love of us that God the Father allowed out the full force of the accumulated sin of the whole world, upon His innocent and dearly beloved Son, Whom He had loved from before the conception of the universe. And He did it out of LOVE.. for the world.

We cannot presume to comprehend what it cost the innocent Lord Jesus, Who as God incarnate had to lay aside His eternal majesty and supreme glory and be clothed in human flesh and then be made sin for you and for me. The eternal Creator God demonstrated His love towards us in that while we were yet sinners He laid down His life for us and became a curse and a hissing as the weight of the accumulated sin of the world was laid on His shoulders and He did it for LOVE of you and for LOVE of me.

When we look at the cross of Christ and the blood that He shed for us at Calvary, we see incarnate LOVE. and we know what real godly love is by this: that Christ Jesus laid down His life for us. Ought not we for HIS sake, lay down our lives for our brethren?

CONFESSION: Heavenly Father, I stand dumbfounded to realise the depth of Your love for me and remain stunned at the amazing love of Christ for me and for the fallen race of sinful man, that Christ laid aside His heavenly glory and was made sin for me so that by grace through faith in Him I might have life. I pray that His love might flow through me so that I too may be willing to lay down my life for others to Your praise and glory, AMEN.

THE WORD, MY LIFE.

Saturday 25th March, 2023

COME TO ME AND DRINK.

Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. John 7:37(NASB)

Three times a year, the Jewish males were instructed by the written Law to travel up to Jerusalem to celebrate three of the great feasts of the Lord. Each feast reminded them of a significant part of their national heritage and yet each feast also pointed forward to a wonderful future fulfilment when the promised Messiah would come to right all wrongs and set up His earthly kingdom of peace and prosperity, as promised to Israel in the Old Testament Scriptures.

Perhaps the most glorious occasion was the Feast of Tabernacles, which promised a time of great joy and rejoicing when God would one day come to tabernacle on earth, among His people. Certain rituals took place during this autumn feast of Tabernacles, and the climax of these celebrations happened on the last day of the feast, which was actually an eighth day.

For seven days, the people engaged in a solemn ritual where the priests would fill a pitcher of water from the Gihon Spring and then return in a dignified procession to pour it out, in great pomp and ceremony, over the alter of the Lord. This was done in grateful remembrance of the rock that was smitten in the wilderness, and from which streamed life-giving water into the dusty desert for the thirsty Israelites but it also pointed forward to the Rock of our Salvation and the Living Water that streams from our Saviour's healing side, bringing spiritual life, spiritual health, and spiritual healing to all who drink, for Christ Jesus is the living water. He is the true water of life Who alone can satisfy the thirsty soul.

For seven days, the people engaged in this solemn ritual, but this daily parade did not take place on that final, climatic 8th day of the feast, for this was a special, holy convocation that was distinct from and yet integral with this special feast of the Lord. And so it was that on that great day of the feast, the climatic 8th day, that Jesus stood and cried out with a loud voice, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink." There could have been no more appropriate day for Christ to make this great announcement to a spiritually thirsty Israel who had strayed so far from the God Who had rescued them from bo***ge in Egypt, and Who had supernaturally fed and watered them during their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.

But on this unique day, Christ proclaimed Himself as Israel's Redeemer with the words: "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink." For seven days, these Jews looked back to the rock in the desert which provided earthly water for their physical sustenance. But on this 8th day of the feast, Christ took the opportunity to announce that HE is the true Rock from Whom flow rivers of living water, to all who will believe in Him. And so He continued, "He who BELIEVES in Me, as the Scripture said, 'from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'"

CONFESSION: Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is the living Water that satisfies the thirsty soul and the heavenly Bread that feeds the hungry heart. Thank You that Jesus is the Rock of my salvation, Who was smitten for me on the Cross, and that by His death and resurrection, I have a new spiritual life that has found its satisfaction in You alone, AMEN.

THE WORD, MY LIFE

Friday 24th March, 2023

I TRUST IN YOUR LOVING KINDNESS.

But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
Psalm 13:5(NASB)

How precious is the Word of God and like so many of the Psalms that were penned by David, this is a song which begins with him bitterly lamenting over his mounting distresses and weeping over life's cruel circumstances. However it ends with him glorifying God and offering thanksgiving and praise for His goodness and grace. David was able to eventually cry in all his distresses and pain: I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.

Throughout this Psalm David offers a number of rhetorical questions; How long will You forget me? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I store up anxious thoughts in my heart? How long shall all my enemies triumph over me?

David felt that the Lord had abandoned him but feelings should never cloud the truth of God's Word, for He has promised to be with us, even to the end of the age. Jesus Himself warned us that in this world we would have tribulation and Paul added that all who live godly lives will suffer persecution. But Christ Himself encouraged us with the words: but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world. And Christ's victory on the cross becomes our victory and His resurrected life became our new life in Christ, for we are one with Him and members of His body.

David did not keep on and on questioning the Lord but remembered God's promises of old and so he began to petition the Lord for deliverance, Consider me Lord and hear my cry for help. 'Give light to my eyes and strength to my body for I feel I am going to die. Lord hear my prayer and let my cry come unto You', he pleaded 'in case my enemies think they have prevailed against me and start to rejoice!!'

David came to understand that we are to rejoice in the Lord and in the power of His might and that in everything by prayer and supplication we are to look to Jesus and make our requests known to the Lord. God knows all our needs because He is our Father, Who delights to hear His children come to Him in trusting dependence for every eventuality of life.

Like David we must never forget that our times are in His hands and that the day is coming when God will put all wrongs to right and so we discover that David was finally able to confess: but I have trusted in Your lovingkindness. My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, because He has dealt bountifully with me.

One of the vital lessons of life we all must learn is that when God is given His rightful place in our lives, we too will be given the sufficient strength to live in Christ Jesus and will be enabled to rejoice in the Lord always and to sing praises to His holy name even in our distresses and pain, for He is our God and our hearts shall rejoice, for He is our Saviour.

CONFESSION: Heavenly Father; I trust in You and thank You that there are no circumstances of life that You do not know about and that in all things I am more than a conqueror, through Christ, Who loved me and gave Himself for me. May I rejoice in the Lord at all times and in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, make my request known to You, for I have trusted in Your loving-kindness and my heart rejoices in God my Saviour, GLOY BE TO GOD, AMEN.

THE WORD, MY LIFE.

Thursday 23rd March, 2023

CHRIST IS THE RESURRECTION.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, John 11:25(NASB)

Nothing in the life of a Believer happens without a purpose and every event that takes place, whether good or ill, is used by God for our spiritual growth and eternal benefit. During our sojourn on earth, we are called to mature in the faith and to grow in grace, and God takes all the circumstances of life as an opportunity to develop our trust in Him so that we may discover a little more of His gracious character, His omnipotent power, His omniscient wisdom, His unfailing righteousness, His unapproachable holiness, and His unconditional love.

Martha demonstrated her deep trust in God's Word, for she had an assurance that her brother would be resurrected in the end times. She had come to believe that Jesus was the promised Messiah Who would save His people from their sins, but she had not yet recognised that she was addressing the incarnate Son of God Who created all things, and Who is before all things. She was yet to discover that Jesus is incarnate God; the One Who holds all things together by His almighty power; the One in Whom is life everlasting.

Martha was standing before the Creator of the universe, but her understanding of the enormity of Christ's Person and the redemptive work that He was yet to accomplish at Calvary was incomplete, and the death of her dearly beloved brother was the occasion that Christ chose to unveil a little more of His pre-eminence and power.

Although Martha's faith was small, her faith was in the right Person, the Lord Christ Jesus and so He was enabled to expand her trust in God. Martha believed that God was faithful to fulfil His promise of a future bodily resurrection, and so Jesus was enabled to reveal more of His character and limitless resources to her as being available today.

Martha only had a limited understanding of God but she had come to trust His Word, and so God was able to work in the circumstances of her life to develop her faith and to deepen her dependence upon the Lord Jesus. And to this grieving woman with her tiny 'mustard-seed faith' were spoken those earth-shattering words, "I am the Resurrection and the Life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies."

Christ was able to refocus Martha's faith from a faithful God Who will one day fulfil His future promises to incarnate God Who is always present in the everyday circumstances of our lives. He is not only the God of tomorrow's promises, but the One Who is with us through all the changing scenes of life.

Martha's faith was expanded as she learned that she was to look to Jesus every moment of her life, from that day forward, as her ever present help in time of trouble, and not simply to trust God with a future programmed that will one day be accomplished.

Let us never forget that however small our faith may be, God is working in us every day to strengthen our trust in Him so that we may grow in grace and learn to depend on Him, no matter what circumstances we may have to face. His Word stands fast today, and His Word stands fast forever.

CONFESSION: Heavenly Father, thank You for these earth shattering words, spoken to the grieving sister of Lazarus. Thank You that Jesus used these words to develop Martha's faith and to deepen her dependence upon Him. Help me never to forget that however small my faith may be, God is working in me every day to strengthen my trust in Him so that I may grow in grace and learn to depend on Him, no matter what circumstances I may have to face. Thank You that my life is hid with Christ in God. Enlarge my faith in Your Word of truth and increase my understanding of Who You truly are, (Whom to know is life eternal), not only in the future but here and now. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

THE WORD, MY LIFE.

Wednesday 22nd March, 2023

BEHOLD THE MAN!

Pilate went outside again and said to the people, “I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not guilty. Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said, “Look, here is the man!” When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” “Take him yourselves and crucify him,” Pilate said. “I find him not guilty.” The Jewish leaders replied, “By our law he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God.” John 19:4-7(NLT)

The terrible verdict of Pilate, the Roman governor, who judged the civil case against Christ was: innocent but condemned, blameless but convicted, without fault and yet sentenced to death. And yet before him stood the Son of God in human flesh, without Whom Pilate could not have drawn another breath and Who had the power to call on ten legions of angels to rescue Him from this ungodly trial.

The combined hatred of the religious court, which was overseen by Caiaphas the high priest of Israel, pronounced Christ guilty of blasphemy, and yet the One that stood before them was Jesus of Nazareth, the promised king of the Jews and prophesised Messiah of Israel, the Saviour of the world and Lamb of God. It was the eternal Son, Whom they mocked and ridiculed, Who came to earth as the Word made flesh, so that He could reveal God to man and pay the price for the sin of the whole world.

The Jewish court tried Him illegally, and foolishly rejected the Truth. The Roman governor tried Him dishonestly and asked what is Truth..? and yet standing before them was incarnate Word of God, the incarnate Truth of God, and the incarnate Life of God. Despite Pilate's attempt to appease the Jewish leadership, he seriously compromised his high office as Roman governor, and was ill-prepared to defend the truth. Instead he flouted the righteous demands of the Law in a most cowardly way by condemning the innocent Son of Man to death and washing his hands of his God-given right to uphold the rule of law.

The God of the universe in human flesh, with only love and pity for humanity in His heart and an immovable resolve to fulfil the perfect will of His heavenly Father stood silent before His wicked accusers, as a lamb that was led to the slaughter.

The omnipotent Creator of all things, the omniscient Judge of the earth and eternal King of Israel was despised and humiliated, rejected and unjustly condemned to death so that all who believe in the sacrificial offering of Himself might be lifted out of the pit of condemnation in which we are all trapped so that by faith in Him we might become children of God and heirs of His promise.

By taking the punishment for the sin of the world upon His own head, the perfect, innocent and unique Man Christ Jesus the Lord, stood before this Roman governor, clothed in a mocking robe of purple, with a cruel crown of thorns lacerating His holy head. And the Roman governor prophetically declared; Behold the Man.

As a Roman governor, it is unlikely that Pilate knew the significance of those immortal words: BEHOLD THE MAN, but for the wicked Jewish leaders, those words must have burned their consciences to the core, for centuries earlier the prophet Zechariah had used that self-same phrase to identify the coming Jewish Messiah, the King of Israel and Saviour of the world: Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the Man whose name is The BRANCH; and He shall grow up out of His place, and His shall build the temple of the LORD.

Christ Jesus died and was buried and rose from the dead and is today seated on the right hand of the Majesty on high but the day is fast approaching when ALL unfulfilled prophecies in connection with Christ will be finally and fully fulfilled and we too will Behold the Man, Who chose to die a sacrificial death so that by faith in Him we might live eternally.

CONFESSION: Heavenly Father, the more I think about the cross the more I begin to understand the immensity of what the Lord Christ Jesus did for me and for the whole world. Thank You that I have come to an understanding of Who Christ Jesus is and what He has done for me so that by faith in Him I am free from all condemnation, remission of my sins and eternally secure in Christ. May I never ever forget what Christ Jesus has done for me through time and into eternity, GLORY BE To GOD, AMEN.
