Translation and dispatches from the anti-austerity struggle in Quebec
Language and Dissent came out of Translating the Printemps Erable, which was a collectively-run amateur translation project that contributed to the dissemination of information during the Quebec student strike of 2012. This blog is a continuation of the ethos and effort that began in 2012; here we translate French-language articles, op-eds, reports, videos, posters, first-hand accounts, memes, and
any other media that help to elucidate the anti-austerity struggle in Quebec. We also occasionally post original content that is relevant to the blog’s mission of facilitating more wide-reaching and intersectional communication for solidarity that supports progressive activism and protest movements in Quebec. We oppose the Quebec government’s austerity bills which promise to gut the social programs that we hold so dear in service to an ideological agenda that hides behind the pretense of balanced budgets. Language is powerful and we hope that by sharing important words they can be transformed into meaningful action.
