Twitter, now known as X, is planning to change news article links shared on its platform into images without context. Elon Musk, the owner of X, explained that this change would enhance the appearance of posts. However, this alteration might lead to news being overlooked on a platform historically associated with news dissemination.

Twitter was unique due to its role as a modern news source and a public chat room for journalists. Meanwhile, Meta, previously Facebook, is blocking news articles in Canada following a law allowing news organizations to negotiate payments for shared content. This has caused criticism, especially from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who expressed his frustration at Facebook prioritizing profits over ensuring timely local news during wildfires.

This situation contrasts with a few years ago when Meta engaged with publishers to share ad revenue for linking content on its mobile app. This evolution of relations between platforms and publishers, along with X's decision to change article formats, indicates a strained relationship.

Elon Musk's move coincides with European regulators pushing for compensation to news publishers by social media platforms for content snippets. The removal of headlines could be X's way of avoiding copyright claims. As stated in a 2015 column by David Carr, "If the dog is big enough, he can lick you to death," implying the power of dominant platforms.

Meta's Threads app has garnered significant attention in the tech world since its launch. One focal point of discussion has been the app's logo—a simple yet captivating design featuring a circle intersected by a vertical line. Though resembling an "@" symbol, it's distinct and realized in Instagram's modern sans serif font.

Adam Mosseri, overseeing Instagram, has been active on Threads since its launch. Apart from responding to user suggestions, he's shared behind-the-scenes insights. Due to curiosity surrounding the logo, Mosseri recently explained its significance on Threads. The logo draws from the classic internet "@" symbol, representing usernames, individual expression, and continuity. It interprets "@" as an unbroken line, symbolizing the loop when a conversation starts—a representation of ongoing discussions.

Threads' logo, resembling the Tamil letter "ம" (ma), is a simplified version of it. Some speculated it represents a needle and thread or digital connections, but Meta clarified it's inspired by the Tamil alphabet. Threads' popularity is remarkable; it's dubbed as Instagram's text-based conversation app. Within hours of launch, it gained millions of users, viewed as a potential rival to Twitter. Praised for its user-friendly interface, Meta Threads allows text, photo, and video sharing, becoming immensely popular shortly after release. The Threads logo reflects connectivity and storytelling, resonating with the app's purpose.
