Calgary is gearing up to unveil the newly expanded BMO Center at Stampede Park in June, offering an impressive 1 million square feet of space, making it the largest convention space in Western Canada. Here are 5️⃣ actions you can take for Earth Day that align with the above principles:

• Rethink Your Consumption Habits: Consider areas where you can reduce your environmental impact by consuming less or opting for more sustainable alternatives. This could involve reducing your use of single-use plastics, minimizing food waste, or choosing products with minimal packaging.
• Refuse Single-Use Plastics: Make a conscious effort to refuse single-use plastics whenever possible – especially in your event planning. Bring your reusable shopping bags, and water bottles (have you met Fill It Forward for your next event? https://buff.ly/3UnTB44)
• Reduce Energy Consumption: Turn off lights and electronics when they’re not in use, unplug chargers and appliances when they’re not needed, and invest in energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs. Adjust the thermostat to conserve energy and explore renewable energy options like solar or wind power if feasible. Add a question on your RFP about energy conservation and discuss this topic during venue site inspections.
• Reuse and Repurpose: Get creative! Reuse items instead of throwing them away. Host a neighborhood swap – what you don’t need may be of use to a friend or neighbor. Repurpose damaged clothing items into a quilt, small blanket, or toy and donate to a pet shelter.
• Recycle Responsibly and Repair Items: Take the time to properly sort and recycle materials like paper, cardboard, glass, metal, and plastic according to your local recycling guidelines. Consider repairing items instead of automatically replacing them when they break or malfunction. Whether it’s mending clothes, fixing household appliances, or repairing electronics, extending the lifespan of items helps reduce waste and conserve resources.
