Please join us on 25th November wearing something orange to support this International Day for the Elimination of Violence.
States Members are currently being updated by the Police Chief and the advice remains to **stay home** unless your need to travel is essential.
There is still a huge amount of debris around and work is ongoing to clear this. Whilst the ongoing weather is less severe, high winds may still potentially dislodge branches, roof tiles or similar and could cause injury.
Islanders have been absolutely amazing at following the advice given and calmly supporting each other in all the Parishes.
The storm resulted in zero fatalities. I am hugely grateful to the emergency services and infrastructure department for their preparedness and for working through the night to keep islanders safe.
Finally my thoughts are with all those parents and carers who have been juggling work with parenting/caring today! You are also doing a fantastic job.
5 Parish Halls are open for immediate sheltering purposes. Should you require this support, please call the Parish duty Centenier who will do their best to assist.

Both the Strategic Command Group (SCG) and the Council of Ministers (CoM) have met this morning and have confirmed that – given the significant risks posed by Storm Ciarán – all Government schools and colleges will close on Thursday 2 November.
A decision on school openings for Friday 3 November will be made, based on an assessment of any damage to schools and colleges, and the ongoing risks. Private schools and early years providers are being provided with the same advice as Government of Jersey schools and colleges.
More information will be provided as it becomes available.
Whether in a nursery setting or as a childminder or nanny in a home setting, caring for children is a rewarding career and there are many opportunities in Jersey. Please see further details on the link below:

Volunteers needed for St Saviour Parish Events!
📍 St Saviour’s Parish Hall
📅 Sat 15th July 2023
🕐 11am
All St Saviour parishioners interested in volunteering and assisting with future Parish events are invited to a coffee morning at the Parish Hall.
I know that many families are very keen to see more events in our Parish, and this has been a frequent topic of discussion at our Parish meetings with the Deputies and Constable. It's wonderful to see that some progress is being made so please come along and share your ideas with the Constable.
It is my hope that a strong cohort of volunteers will be backed up by a paid events coordinator who can do the important job of bringing everyone together 🤞🏻

was delighted to welcome Deputy Louise Doublet and Deputy Carina Alves - Reform Jersey to The Bridge today.
We talked about lots of issues that we face everyday in Jersey, and that helped us to focus on, such as the cost of living, childcare, returning to work and parenting.
Thank you to both Deputies for listening to us and for the enjoyable discussions.
We are very pleased to announce that tomorrow we will be hosting our first visit from Therapy Dogs in the Town Library lounge. Come in and say hello to some four legged friends from 10:30 -11:30 on Thursday 23 Feb. All ages welcome including supervised children.

Today is your last chance to share your views and experiences of violence against women and girls in Jersey in the Taskforce’s anonymous online survey, ‘share your story’ function and online safety heat map.
Please do take a little time to share your insights before the public call for evidence closes today. Thank you.

Public Health advises Islanders to refrain from sea swimming until Saturday morning as a result of the flash flooding contaminating the water.
***Grands Vaux families***
Parents should not travel to Grands Vaux school this morning. There is flooding in the area which means roads to the school are blocked. Jersey Fire and Rescue are at the scene and we hope to have an update by 10am.
Its Christmas week!!! 🎄🤩
Come and join us in the Children's library for our last week of Christmas activities!
Activities are free, run all day (except Wednesday morning when we host a free Move More Jersey playgroup) and are based on a first come first serve basis. When the supplies run out that will be it for the day.
Please also note that we recommend these activities for ages 4+ as there are small parts involved in some of the activities (i.e. pom poms, sequins, crafty bits etc.) however, younger children are more than welcome to join in under adult supervision. We also welcome any parents to come and take part if you are just looking to get out and do something!
Come and join us next Monday at our Communicare Library at Les Quennevais for this wonderful session with the very talented Kelly Eastwood Art 🎨

Are you one of the many women who has experienced unwanted intrusive attention or harassment from men in the workplace or out in the community? Studies in the UK have shown that the vast majority of women have experienced at least one instance of this, and often multiple episodes as part of their daily lives. A smaller number of women are subjected to more serious violence and sexual assault.
This completely anonymous survey is being taken by the independent Taskforce led by Kate Wright. *It is vital that as many women as possible fill it in so that the taskforce can gain an understanding of the problem in Jersey.* The taskforce will make recommendations to Government based on what women tell them in the survey.
Please take the time to fill in the survey and share as widely as possible. Encourage your friends, families and co-workers to also take part.
If not you, then who?
If not now, then when?
Harassment and the threat of harassment can have serious implications for women and girls’ freedom, autonomy and perceived safety.
Evidence shows that harassment of girls and women and public spaces is widespread.
We don’t want this to be the case for women and girls in Jersey. Help us understand it, so we can stop it.
1️⃣ Share Your Story – help us understand the impacts of VAWG and your recommendations for change
2️⃣ Use the Safety Heatmap – to identify public spaces where you have felt unsafe
3️⃣ Complete the survey - tell us what you think about VAWG

A thank you message directly to all the children and young people who represented their nurseries, schools and college to help us co-create Jersey’s participation standards - a checklist of how we can engage with them.
I'm proud to be part of this new Government which truly values children and has set this intention from the very start - to listen, to value and to ensure the views we hear have a genuine influence on our policy decisions.
Thank you also to Elaine Walker for her tremendous efforts in helping us complete this within the first 100 days. This is just the beginning and we commit to reviewing these standards regularly to ensure they reflect what children and young people need.
I was very sad to hear the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II today. My thoughts are with her family. What a shining example of public service she was. The ultimate feminist icon who was a role model to women and girls across the Commonwealth.

Are you a mum to be in Jersey who is considering having a home birth? Or maybe you have had a home birth recently and would be happy to share your experiences to help others decide if it's something for them.
Tomorrow (Wed 24 August) there is an opportunity to join an informal meet-up to promote the Homebirth service from 2pm to 3pm at The Merchants Coffee Shop, Beresford Street.
The Homebirth team are planning on having monthly meetups in the community for women to come along, meet the team, discuss place of birth choices and meet other women who have had/ are thinking about having a homebirth.
I want to extend a huge thank you to Sarah Keating who leads the UNICEF Baby Friendly work which is raising breastfeeding rates on our island. She has supported so many families and babies. I will continue to champion support for families to feed their babies however they choose. This week is National Breastfeeding Week! Please show your support by sharing your own stories around breastfeeding, and if you know a breastfeeding mum consider reaching out and telling her what a great job she's doing. Support at all levels, from wider family, health services, workplace, government and everyone in our community, really makes a difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who voted for me in the election. I am so grateful to everyone who took the time and I am delighted to be part of the new team for St Saviour.
I am very grateful also to my friends and family who helped me to deliver manifesto leaflets, put up and take down posters and many other jobs. I am aware there are a couple of posters I have missed and will be heading out to take them down as soon as I can later today! Please let me know if any more are spotted after tomorrow (Wednesday 28th) and I will ensure they are removed promptly.
Big thanks also to everyone in the States Greffe/Vote.je, the Judicial Greffe, and to all the staff and volunteers in the Parishes who worked through the day and most of the night to make the election run as smoothly as possible.
We, along with Jersey Community Relations Trust, were so happy to host a reception this afternoon to celebrate the record number of women now sitting in Jersey’s States Assembly.
Well done to all of the new Assembly, women & men. We wish you all the best of luck for the next 4 years!
