Mental Health Monday🌼

Hello! My name is Brandy Mozingo-Thompson and I’m the secretary for Pirates Promoting Community Wellness.
By this point in the semester, it can sometimes feel like class assignments are starting to pile up. One way to help combat feeling overwhelmed is by signing up for tutoring, time management and/or study skills through PASC (Pirate Academic Support Center). Having regular appointments helps with peace of mind because you’re more confident in your studying and it helps you stay on top of your assignments!

Happy Wellness Wednesday everyone!🚲

My name is Rachel Watkins, and I am the Vice President of Pirates Promoting Community Wellness this year!
One way I like to stay active during the school year is by going to cycling classes at the Eakin Student Recreation Center. These classes are free for students, and they are a great way to get in a quick workout while having fun. The cycling classes as well as numerous other group fitness classes are taught several times a week, so there should be a class time that works with your schedule. However, you do have to sign up in advance for these classes (link below) and wear a mask, so remember to plan accordingly. Please feel free to reach out to us if you want a workout buddy as I would be happy to go to a cycling class with you!

Don’t participate in hazing, condemn it.
We all matter and no one deserves to be torn down in order to be apart of a group.
Stand against hazing with us

Happy Mental Health Monday everyone! 🧘
My name is Rachel Watkins, and I am the Vice President of Pirates Promoting Community Wellness this year!
As college students, it is easy to become stressed when thinking about upcoming assignments, tests, and grades, but one way to overcome these worries is with positivity. I know it may sound silly at first, but it truly does help. Whenever you are not feeling your best, simply take a minute and think of something positive. You can encourage yourself by saying “You got this” or “Believe in Yourself,” or you can think of something good that has already happened that day.
I hope this tip will help y’all when you are feeling stressed, and please feel free to reach out to us if you need someone to talk to!🌻

Happy Wellness Wednesday everyone! 🌳
My name is Angela Covarrubias Rubio, and I am this year’s president for Pirates Promoting Community Wellness!
With such a hectic schedule, it’s hard to stay physically active. However, I have to remember to dedicate time to my dog, Astro. Astro enjoys going on walks and it’s easy to walk to campus and walk there (which he enjoys) and this gives me a chance to remain active myself as well! I recommend walks to everyone, I really enjoy walking with Astro and listening to music at the same time. I like walking because it helps me clear my mind and it gives me a break from work, school work, and extracurriculars as well.

I fell in love with PPCW as a transfer student in 2019 because of all the service opportunities and wellness promotion. Hello! My name is Destiny Akinnagbe. I am a senior this year majoring in Public Health. I like being in the Public Health field because it is versatile and I enjoy helping others. I am the treasurer for PPCW, and for me, I love the community that has been established in PPCW and service projects that we do! Something to know about me is that I love dogs and the beach!

My name is Kaitlyn Seagraves and I am currently a Junior here at ECU! I am studying Biology and Hispanic Studies. My position in PPCW is the Global Coordinator. I joined PPCW as a way to volunteer and get to meet new people. A fun fact about myself is that I love plants and have a garden at my apartment!

Hi! My name is Amy Turner, and I am a junior at ECU majoring in Nursing with a minor in Biology. I am the Philanthropy Chair for PPCW, so I am primarily in charge of fundraising for our organization! My favorite thing about PPCW is that it is much more than just an organization on campus. PPCW is a like a family, where like-minded students gather to connect with one another and to serve our local and global communities well. PPCW is directly preparing me to begin a career in Pediatric Nursing through the countless opportunities for service in the community, for promoting health and wellness, and even for networking among experienced faculty and older students. I am so excited to go into Nursing because of the many ways that I will be able to build relationships with my patients and give them the care that they deserve! On another note, one fun fact about myself is that I was the first female from my high school to make it to the NCHSAA Cross Country State Championships all four years:)

Hello! My name is Rachel Watkins, and I am a senior majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Math. I am the Vice President of PPCW for the 2021-2022 school year, and one of my favorite activities as a member of PPCW is making breakfast at the Community Crossroads Center. Also, a fun fact about myself is that I hope to visit every US National Park in my lifetime.

Hello everyone! My name is Angela Covarrubias Rubio, I am a senior majoring in public health with a concentration in pre-health studies and a minor in business administration and I am the president of Pirates Promoting Community Wellness (PPCW) this 2021-2022 school year! Upon graduating from East Carolina University, I endeavor to continue gaining clinical experience prior to applying to PA school, while helping my father expand his small business. I love PPCW because we do not just promote the physical well being of individuals in the community, but we also promote the mental and emotional well being of individuals in the community because each of these aspects affects one’s health holistically. Not only does PPCW promote wellness within ECU and Pitt County, but we also promote wellness globally during our annual Honduras trip that occurs during Winter break. Fun fact about myself: I love to bake! I really enjoy baking cakes or other baked goods for friends, family, and even my dog, Astro!

I love riding bikes because it’s a great source of exercise, a way to enjoy the outdoors, and provides opportunities to spend time with friends and family. There’s a lot of neat sights you can go and see while riding too. If you get the chance, try riding your bike the next time you need to go somewhere! 🚴

go sign up to help (link on engage) or come get your car washed!!

“Hi everyone! My name is Angela and I am the Local and Global Coordinator for PPCW this school year. I usually don’t have time to meal prep or I don’t really think of incorporating fruits and veggies in my diet since school and work is very hectic. However, I like to make smoothies that I can snack on before I go to work or when I am working on an assignment and I think it is a very easy way to incorporate fruits into my diet. I do not really measure ingredients when I put them in my blender, I just stick them in there and go. I use organic milk (you can use whatever milk you want), blueberries, strawberries, a whole banana (without the skin haHa), some coconut shavings (for sweetness and because I like coconut), and cinnamon. If you’re feeling extra cool you can add almonds or chia seeds. Then I blend it up and BAM it’s ready. I really like Tropical Smoothie and their Chia Banana Boost smoothie, but it’s expensive and far from my apartment so I just started making my own smoothies with essentially the same ingredients that they use for their smoothie. Then I just put my smoothie in this super cute glass that my friend, Hannah gave me and I drink my smoothie. This is a very quick, easy, and effortless way to incorporate fruits in to my diet and I 10/10 recommend :)”

“Meal planning is a great way to stay healthy with a busy schedule! Each week, I try to plan my meals out for the week and prep what I can in advance. It saves time and helps me stay on track with my meal plan! This week I made Greek Chicken Gyros! The recipe made up to 6 servings, was easy, and delicious!”
