Nico Sweet is the kind of dude that can rock-out a room just by walking into it. Born in Paddington,
To the outside world, the life of Nico Sweet is a blessed one, but it might surprise some to learn that’s been a life of mixed blessings. Born in Paddington, England, rough-scrabble, industrial suburb of London, Nico was born to parents unprepared for regular family life. His mother, an overworked and underpaid Foot and Testicle nurse; and his father, a traveling cheese salesman whose business oft
en took him out of town for long stretches, began a relationship that disintegrated quickly, leaving Nico in the lurch. Yet, his saving grace was his grandmother Olivia, who took it upon herself to raise young Nico, while encouraging him to pursue his musical dreams to their fullest potential. Still smarting over the loss of his father to the demands of the travelling cheese industry (Nico tends to lose his s**t at the sight of anything cheddar), Sweet channeled his aggression into his first band, Radio Dawn, which became a Euro-sensation, setting the stage for his chart-topping success with the groundbreaking power trio, The Fuzz, all as a prequel to his over-the-top solo career. Naturally, it wasn’t all wine (make that “Jackies”) and roses. There was the dramatic onstage breakup of The Fuzz in the ‘90s—an episode that culminated in Nico mistakenly knocking out a plain clothes policeman with his guitar. Many “lost weekends” later, after building up and sustaining an enviable solo career, the whole party almost came to an end when Sweet fell six stories from a balcony in a Paris hotel room. The incident was an eye-opening brush with mortality, giving Nico the impetus he needed to change his personal life and move back to Los Angeles. These days, Nico is trying to make good on his promises, albeit with a few winks and fingers crossed.
