As the Republican National Convention wrapped up last week, Republicans could hardly believe their good fortune. Republican expectations reached its highest prospect in many years. The GOP appeared united, with Trump ahead in the polls, while the Democrats were splintered; and the Democratic incumbent Joe Biden appeared on track to lose. Also, it brought glimmers of hope that the GOP could recapture the Senate and increase its numbers in the House. But all that changed in a matter of a couple of days.
Republicans went from “cocky to fearful,” in part because they assumed President Biden would never abandon his re-election candidacy. Trump’s campaign was built to beat Biden. On the other hand, Democrats went from despair about a possible defeat to hopes about a race reborn with officials describing Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive nominee.
In less than 24 hours, delegates to the Democratic Party National Convention next month have now switched from Biden to Harris after the President endorsed her to replace him. Democratic governors and members of Congress, plus the Obamas, the Clintons and Biden Cabinet members are endorsing Harris by the hour. And, labor unions and donors flooded their commitments, with the Harris campaign bringing in $81 million in less than 24 hours. Spirits could not be any higher for Democrats. Biden’s announcement of not seeking another term Sunday afternoon, took all the wind out of the Republican sails.
Just yesterday morning, the presidential race was a contest between two old and unpopular men. Now, the contest is dramatically different. Republicans are running the oldest presidential nominee in history against Harris who’s nearly two decades younger. It’s certain that will be a major campaign issue. In a year in which some voters are concerned about crime, Republicans are running a man who’s been convicted of 34 felonies against a former prosecutor who’s brought criminals to justice. It’s also of note, that Republicans have nominated a man who can’t even vote for himself because of those felony convictions. Republicans are running the least experienced presidential ticket in generations against a Democrat who’s spent the last 20 years serving the public.
One political pundit said a Harris-Trump contest would be “the future vs the past.”

This is the ticket that will work every day for Hoosier families. This team knows the importance of good public schools, universal pre-K, and expanding child care accessibility. They’re ready to hit the ground running from day one to uplift working families!

Here's a message from California Gov. Gavin Newsom:
"I know Democrats across the country are feeling anxious about this election and wondering if there's anything they can do to shape its outcome.
Here's something — and it's important — control of the House of Representatives runs through California. We have more toss-up races than any other state in the country. If we win these races, Democrats can take control of the House. If we lose these races, there's almost no chance.
But in every instance, right-wing outside spending groups are targeting the Democratic candidate with ads to defeat them. So these candidates need our help to fight back.
This is a moment that reminds me of Bobby Kennedy’s speech at the 1964 Democratic Convention. Bobby Kennedy said that JFK would have never been able to accomplish any of what he did without the support of all of you — the Democratic Party.
He said that when we’re in it together, we can accomplish a great deal. That remains true today, and it's the only way we'll take back the House this November: together.
The outcome of this election is not something we can just sit back and witness. We're talking about the fate and future of our democracy. We all have a role to play in shaping its outcome."

Here's my take on whether President Biden should step aside and be replaced by another Democrat candidate at the party convention.
President Biden, at age 81, is battling perceptions he is too elderly for a second term. Trump, 78, also is facing concerns from moderate and swing voters about his bombastic style and some say a threat to democracy. However, “facts and truth” were the biggest losers of debate night. Trump, according to USA Today, claimed that the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol was former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s fault, claiming he offered Pelosi 10,000 soldiers to stop the attack. But, Pelosi’s office has said that she never received such an offer and that she wouldn’t have had the power to refuse either way. Another falsehood claimed by Trump was that the southern border is the most dangerous place in the world, but there is no evidence to suggest this. He still maintains that the 2020 election was fraudulent and that migrants have carried out a wave of violent crime. He defended his supporters arrested for storming the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 and refused to say whether he would accept this year's election results. Also, he suggested he might prosecute Biden if he wins.
The two candidates dislike each other. Biden called Trump a "whiner" and a "child" who cheated on his wife with a p**n star and had the "morals of an alley cat." Trump said Biden was a "disaster" and a "Manchurian candidate" who favored China over the United States. The two even argued over who was the better golfer.
There was no doubt that Biden underperformed in the debate and that Trump repeatedly made false statements. Biden's allies scrambled to contain the fallout. Biden stumbled over his words and lost his train of thought early in the debate. However, he did recover, but was the damage done? There now are some calling for the President to let someone else be nominated for President after such a disappointing debate performance. Josh Shapiro, the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, urged Democrats to stop worrying and said, "Joe Biden had a bad debate, right, but Donald Trump was a bad president." Gov. Gavin Newsom of California said, "You don't turn your back because of one performance."
For me, while I've often said that both candidates are too old to be president, I still stand by President Biden. Sure, I was disappointed in his performance but I think he has done a pretty good job in office considering the hand he was dealt by the former ex-president. And who knows, Trump may be in jail by the time election time rolls around as he is scheduled to be sentenced in New York on July 11, just days before his party convenes to formally nominate him. He still faces three other criminal indictments. Republicans may be in the same dilemma as the Democrats. Neither candidate is popular, and many Americans are dissatisfied with their options, and the country remains deeply polarized.
So what do the Democrats do? In the scenario that Democrats would have to choose a candidate other than Biden, these prominent Democrats would probably be a part of the conversation:
The most likely and obvious choice would be Vice President Kamala Harris. She was previously a San Francisco district attorney, California attorney general, and California senator and is a historic figure in her own right as the first Black, Indian American, and female vice president. More likely, the Republicans probably would not rejoice if she was chosen, as she probably would deliver 90% of the Black vote, which would spell doom to the GOP candidate.
California Gov. Newsom has a great number of Democrat supporters across the country. California is often used by Republicans to contrast with the conservative policies of states such as Florida and Texas. But Newsom not only promotes the Golden State but touts Democratic policy stances and legislative wins — and he's not afraid to take his arguments straight to the GOP. As governor, Newsom takes on more moderate stances on issues. Something that plays well across America.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who's served in the Senate since 2007, ran for president in 2020 and made a surprisingly strong finish in the New Hampshire primary, even outperforming Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts at the time. Klobuchar would be a candidate to watch, as she has a long-standing record of bipartisan accomplishments representing Minnesota in the Senate.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the two-term governor of Michigan where Democrats perform strongly, holding every top statewide office and controls the state legislature, is another possibility. In a potential field without Biden, Whitmer's Midwestern background, strong alliance with organized labor, and moderate appeal could make her a strong contender.
Others who might be considered are Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina, and Gov. Wes Moore, an Army veteran and a Rhodes Scholar, of Maryland.
As the dust clears from the debate and with four months left before the election, more likely Biden and Trump will be the nominees in November.

Banning evidence-based healthcare for trans youth. Criminalizing using a bathroom meant for the opposite gender. Prohibiting trans individuals from updating their birth certificate.
Rep. Bruce Borders' obsession with authoring legislation targeting the trans community is bewildering and disturbing.
The fact that Rep. Borders may automatically get voted back into office - without voters getting a choice in the matter - is almost as disturbing. If you live in the town of Farmersburg, Elnora, Sullivan, Bicknell, or the surrounding areas, you may be eligible to run for office against Rep. Borders.
Please reach out to us if you're interested. The deadline to fill a ballot vacancy is Wednesday, July 3 at noon.

Two years ago, SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade and stripped Americans of their reproductive rights. Today, we are asking for your help to restore that right to the state of Indiana. As Democrats, we know how important this issue is to our constituents. Despite the state’s far-right Republican supermajority, we have worked hard to get Dems elected in order to change the face of our legislature so that it reflects what the people want. To accomplish this, we need your help.
By supporting Democrats, you are investing in change at the grassroots level, and helping us return compassion, practicality, and common sense to Indiana politics.
Your support is essential to moving Indiana forward. Together, we can ensure that it becomes a home once again for every person. Two years is too long - let’s return the right to reproductive freedom to Hoosiers this November.

A message from Indiana Democratic Party State Chairman Mike Schmuhl:
The lunacy and chaos of the Indiana GOP is making its way into national news once again. A piece in the New York Times details how Indiana Republicans are in the midst of a brutal civil war, pitting MAGA against MAGA with the nomination of far-right Micah Beckwith to be their lieutenant governor candidate. This is our moment to bring new leadership in Indiana, and I’m asking if you’ll do just that.
“I think it makes [Braun] look weak,” Schmuhl said. “I think it makes the Republicans look splintered.”
It’s clear that Micah Beckwith’s shocking victory was a blow to Mike Braun, who wasn't even given the chance to pick his own governing partner by Republican delegates. You are not in charge if you have to say “I’m in charge” – as Braun pleaded after the convention vote. We need real leadership in the governor’s office – leadership that only Jennifer McCormick is offering.
We must get this message out to every voter in every county – will you chip into the Indiana Democratic Party today to help elect Jennifer and break the GOP stranglehold on the state?
Make no mistake: A Mike Braun administration would be pushed to the furthest extreme by an Lieutenant Governor who wants to ban books, criminalize women and doctors, and push business out of Indiana.
It’s hard to believe but we are only just over four months away from Election Day. It’s time to bring the message of change and a better Indiana. Please stand with us today by chipping into our efforts to bring more balance to our state, and reject the crazy politics of division coming from the other side.

Beth White for Indiana | Attorney General 17/06/2024

A message from Beth White, Democrat candidate for Attorney General:
Are you looking for…Integrity? Experience? No Nonsense?
I am an experienced public servant who wants to get the Attorney General’s office back to the business of working for Hoosiers.
I currently serve as the president and CEO of the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking. I previously led the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee. I served two terms as the elected Marion County Clerk, where I presided over 14 elections and was the first clerk in Indiana to marry same-sex couples.
As Attorney General, I will focus on protecting all Hoosiers from abuse, neglect, and fraud. My priorities include stopping human trafficking and child predators, going after organizations that defraud and abuse seniors, and expanding the office’s consumer protection efforts -- especially as it relates to protecting private reproductive healthcare information.
There is so much at stake! Todd Rokita’s policies and actions have put us at risk. Republicans will narrow their sights on this race in November and I want to be prepared.
With your support, I will take the message of protecting the fundamental rights of Hoosiers and reach the farthest corners of the State. I am working tirelessly to hear the thoughts and concerns of Hoosiers.
Thank you for the great honor of serving Indiana in the past. It is this very reason I am asking not only for your support, but that of your friends and family.

As the election approaches and Republicans continue to pass legislation threatening our freedoms and rights, it's crucial that we stand together in support of our shared values and beliefs. That’s why we are reaching out to urge you to consider a donation to the Democratic Party.
By supporting Democrats, you are investing in initiatives that champion progress, equality, and opportunity. Your generosity will allow us to continue to advocate for change, mobilize voters, and empower local leaders that will fight on behalf of you.
Your support is vital in ensuring that our voices are heard and our values are reflected in the decisions that impact our lives. Every dollar counts, regardless of the amount. Together, we can get more initiatives out there that will go toward making Indiana a more equitable state.
It is because of our strong grassroots presence that we are able to continue to make Indiana work for you. Please consider making a donation to stand with us today.
Also, we still have a few weeks to put people on the ballot in Daviess County. These are well paid jobs with great benefits. For far too long, locals have given up on electing Democrats in this county. If we don't have candidates, we are giving up on local democracy and have settled for the status quo. Sure its hard, but what isn't anymore. Democrats have always been hard workers, so why should we give up right now. It all starts with your participation. Inaction is a sign of failure and Democrats are certainly not quitters. Contact the County Chairman Ron Critchlow for information.

Democrats for too long have accepted that Indiana is a tough state. You know what Destiny Wells, candidate for Attorney General, says, "We're a purple state with a turnout problem." We have an opportunity to defeat Todd Rokita this November and party officials, elected Democrats, delegates, and reporters agree this is the campaign to do it.

Donald Trump and his closest allies are preparing for his potential return to the White House. If he is elected president, his plans include an extreme crackdown on immigration, leveraging the Justice Department to seek vengeance and increasing the president’s authority over every part of the federal government. https://nyti.ms/3xdrWdt

The problem is not that we have an elderly president who’s less crisp and coherent than he used to be. It’s that we have two elderly candidates, both of whom are less crisp and coherent than they used to be. One is unsteady on his feet. The other is a serial liar who thinks the Constitution allows him to overthrow elections and jail his opponents. -- Los Angeles Times

A message from Jennifer McCormick:
"I believe that Hoosiers deserve to hear directly from candidates on how they would handle reproductive policies if elected to the highest office in our state. Reproductive rights are front and center for a lot of Hoosiers and our stances on these issues matter.
"Which is why I’ve made it no secret that I will fight tirelessly to protect Indiana from extremism. I’m running for Governor to protect Hoosiers, not strip their rights away.
"Yesterday there was a vote on the Senate floor on a contraception protection bill, and my opponent Mike Braun didn’t even show up. Talk about failed leadership."

03/06/2024

Reproductive rights and freedoms continue to be under attack and Hoosiers deserve to know what the two major party candidates for Governor will do about this assault on personal liberties. Former Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction and Democratic candidate for Indiana Governor, Jennifer McCormick, is once again inviting GOP candidate Senator Mike Braun, to town hall meetings centered around reproductive rights in Indiana.
“Across our nation and here in Indiana, women’s health and wellness remain in jeopardy because of the extremist actions taken against reproductive rights and freedoms,” said Jennifer McCormick. “Hoosier voters deserve to know if their candidates for governor will protect or further attack access to reproductive healthcare in Indiana. Therefore, I am once again challenging Senator Braun to join me at regional town halls to discuss the future of reproductive rights and freedoms in Indiana.”
The next two regional Town Hall meetings will take place in Jasper on June 10 and in Indianapolis on June 11. Both Town Halls are open to the media and the public.
McCormick is a lifelong educator and fifth-generation Hoosier from New Castle. She has spent decades serving Indiana as a teacher, principal, and most recently, state superintendent of public instruction. While superintendent, Jennifer fought to protect local control of school districts to ensure parents, teachers, and administrators could make the best decisions for their children. As state superintendent, she was a powerful advocate for teachers and students, ensuring they had the resources they needed to succeed while protecting taxpayer dollars by demanding transparency and fiscal accountability. Jennifer believes it's time we elect a public servant leader who empowers Hoosier voices so that together, we can make Indiana an attractive state in which to live, work, and thrive.

The Hill, a non-partisan publication focusing on the Presidency, the Congress and politics, says that "Trump’s first term and current policy proposals are dire warnings that a second round of Trumponomics would be devastating to everyday Americans."
Trump is promising big tax cuts to everybody, and to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. But, according to The Hill, his proposed tax cuts will benefit the wealthy at the expense of low- and middle-income Americans, and he will cut entitlements to cover any lost tax revenues.
That’s not surprising, knowing the history of Trump’s rhetoric appeal to his base of far-right and uneducated supporters. We’ve seen this before. In 2016, Trump promised his tax cuts would favor working- and middle-class Americans. The cuts he delivered, however, favored the wealthy, and widened income inequality. They are to expire next year, but Trump’s tax cuts will have boosted after-tax incomes of the top 1 percent of earners by 3 percent, to an average of $252,300 for the top 0.1 percent . While they barely affect the bottom 20 percent of earners, increasing their 2025 incomes just 1 percent, about $70. If extended to 2027, the tax cuts would actually make low- and middle-income earners worse off. This is the very core of his supporters. The Trump tax cuts ended up adding between $1 trillion and $2 trillion to the federal debt.
The Hill also says Republicans blamed this on Democrats for borrowing too much and they are pushing for cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Trump signaled openness to cutting entitlements before walking his comments back and promising to protect them. Projections indicate that our deficits are due primarily to Trump’s tax cuts. Extending them would add another $4.6 trillion to the federal debt, the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office says. The Hill advises when Republicans propose extending his tax cuts that would benefit the majority of Americans and pay for themselves, voters would be ill-advised to believe him.
Trump’s is threatening to slap new tarrifs of at least 10 percent on the $3 trillion in goods we import annually insisting that exporting countries would pay for this, but it’s actually American consumers and businesses who would pay. Ten percent tariffs would cost households an average of $1,500 a year as companies raise prices to absorb them and they would trigger additional inflation, further increasing the cost of necessities like food, housing and healthcare, hitting working families hardest. And they’d endanger American jobs by hampering US companies’ ability to compete.
Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, The Hill said, led to higher costs for manufacturers when Chinese suppliers cut their exports to the US to avoid the tariffs. And when China switched to importing soybeans from the European Union, Argentina, Brazil and Russia, soybean exports plummeted by more than $10 billion. China also retaliated against Trump’s trade war by lowering tariffs on other trading partners to lure their imports away from the US.
Trump abandoned the Trans-Pacific Partnership which would have eliminated 18,000 tariffs on made-in-America exports including every type of our manufactured products and most agricultural products. Walking away from the agreement made imported goods from Asia more expensive for Americans and hit Americans’ wallets. By scuttling the TPP, Trump ceded the field to China, leaving Washington with fewer enticements to convince other countries to adopt US trading rules. Such tax and trade policies are likely to lead to a recession, which in Trump’s hands could spiral into a depression, The Hill says. Today Republican tax cuts have driven US debt to 116 percent of GDP, hobbling our ability to engineer our way out of a crisis.
“Unlike Presidents Bush and Obama, who tapped highly qualified leaders to manage the recovery from the 2008 recession, Trump will avoid anybody who isn’t a sycophant or who has the backbone to disagree with him,” the Hill writes. “Instead he’ll hire enablers who are likely to preside over a new crisis and find ways to profit from it while the rest of the country suffers. It will fall hardest on low- and middle-income earners who haven’t shared in the wealth Trump’s tax cuts generated for elites.”

Attention Taxpayers & Voters - This is a picture of a typical Congressional Hearing Room in Washington, DC. Where are all the other members from Congress who are assigned to serve on this committee? Missing in action. Unfortunately, this happens all the time.

ALL members should be in Committee. We pay them well. But, its hard to solve issues if members do not attend hearings and work together to build a consensus.

If we could magically place a body camera on most members for a typical week we would learn they spend significant time doing "calltime"
(fundraising) or meeting special interest lobbyists in hopes of raising money for their campaigns.

This is why 🇺🇸 politics is broken. Its all about the money! Our Congress should be laser focused on addressing our many problems across the nation and around the world.

We must find a viable candidate to challenge Indiana's 8th District Congressman Larry Bucschon in 2024. If you have a successful professional track record and a desire to run for Congress, I need to talk you asap.

The deadline is fast approaching and we need a candidate who can work hard, attract supporters and put us in a realistic chance of winning.

Let's give the voters a choice next fall. We need YOU to run for US House or Statehouse. if not you, who? Please share! Thank you.

Former Congressman Baron Hill, a respected figure with a proven track record of leadership, has officially endorsed Marc Carmichael for the US Senate.
Baron Hill's endorsement carries immense weight because of his deep knowledge of both the political landscape and Marc Carmichael's capabilities. Having served alongside Marc in the Indiana General Assembly, Baron Hill witnessed firsthand Marc's dedication to public service and his unwavering commitment to the people of Indiana.
Baron Hill is not one to take endorsements lightly. He has seen the best and the worst of politics throughout his career and knows that leadership matters, especially in these challenging times. His choice to endorse Marc Carmichael speaks volumes about the character and qualities that Marc brings to the table.
"I believe that Marc Carmichael is the leader Indiana deserves, particularly when contrasted with his belligerent MAGA opponent, Jim Banks," Stated Congressman Hill. "While some choose to engage in divisive rhetoric and political grandstanding, Marc Carmichael offers a different approach—an approach rooted in dignity, contemplation, and genuine concern for the well-being of Hoosiers."
"Marc Carmichael's vision for Indiana is one that prioritizes unity over division, cooperation over confrontation, and progress over stagnation," Hill continued. “Marc understands the issues that matter most to our state, from healthcare and education to the economy and the environment, and he is committed to working tirelessly to address these issues bearing in mind the impacts on working-class men and women of our state."
"But Marc cannot do it alone. He needs your support to bring this vision to reality. Together, we can ensure that Indiana has the dignified and contemplative leadership it deserves."
