Fittingly on alumni day this past Saturday former long time athletic department leader Margaret Alaimo threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
She started her illustrious career here at LIU in 1987 as the head womenโs basketball coach and later spent time as the assistant womenโs softball coach. Margaret transitioned in to an administrative position which led her to becoming LIU Brooklynโs Senior Womenโs Administrator. She helped lead this athletic department at LIU for over 30 years. Margaret was a staunch supporter of LIU athletics and a strong advocate for our
female-student athletes. She was always one of the most liked people by students, faculty, coaches and among all campus departments here at LIU.
She knew every single athleteโs name for all the sports we had in Brooklyn. She hired Coach Roy in 1995 which began a long and trusted relationship with the LIU Softball program. Her support helped guide the program to championship heights and later led to helping the softball program to remain in Brooklyn and the building of this softball facility. Today, we give a big thank you to Margaret Alaimo from LIU athletics and in particular from the LIU Softball program.
