Special thanks to Dr. Quist, Prof. Brady, Kathy Acosta Zavala, and Leticia Jack for all of their hard work and guidance!
Earlier this month Frost Choral Studies students Sam Scheibe and Kyra Stahr visited Miami Arts Charter High School to conduct a clinic with their ensemble "Al Fine." They both helped workshop the mixed choir; rehearsing, coaching, and giving feedback to the students in preparation for their upcoming winter concert. Thank you to MAC director, Michael Colavita, and his incredible singers for the opportunity!
Frost Choral Studies was proud to partner with the Frost ACDA student chapter for our annual Messiah night! Students had the opportunity to conduct, sing, and receive masterclasses from Prof. Brady and DMA students Wesley Roy and Richard Carrillo. Congratulations to all who participated!

Frost Choral Studies Alumni Spotlight: Victoria Nieto, DMA '23
Dr. Victoria Nieto is a Venezuelan choral conductor with experience working with children, youth, and mixed choirs. Over the past few years, Victoria has performed as both an ensemble singer and conductor in the United States, Europe, and Asia while pursuing her doctoral degree in choral conducting under the guidance of Dr. Amanda Quist at the Frost School of Music. As part of her professional training as a conductor, Victoria has participated in masterclasses and choral seminars led by Helmuth Rilling, Josep Vila, Peter Hanke, Alice Parker, and Dr. Jerry McCoy.
Growing up in Venezuela, Victoria was involved in El Sistema and collaborated with the Fundación Schola Cantorum de Venezuela, a non-profit institution founded by conductor Maria Guinand and composer Alberto Grau, both of whom became her mentors. Additionally, Victoria worked as an instructor for conducting workshops in Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay as part of the Música para Crecer program, which utilizes music as a social tool to uplift children from underprivileged environments and enrich communities at large.
During her time in the United States, Victoria presented "Venezuelan Choral Music" at the Missouri Choral Directors Association conference and was invited as a guest speaker at the University of Pennsylvania through their ACDA Student Chapter.
In addition to her doctoral degree from UM, Victoria holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Missouri State University under the tutelage of Dr. Cameron LaBarr and a Bachelor of Music in Choral Conducting from the Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes in Venezuela.
Currently, Victoria serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Hamilton College, where she conducts the Hamilton College Choir and Hamilton Voices. Her responsibilities also include teaching music appreciation classes, Caribbean Music, and aural training.
Congratulations to the Frost Choral Studies students who performed on Friday at the Henry Mancini 100th Birthday Celebration at the Arsht Center! Frost students collaborated with students from the jazz voice program to sing "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with the Frost Henry Mancini orchestra and professor Etienne Charles.
The Seraphic Fire Scholars had an incredible time performing at the opening of the Knight Center for Music Innovation last week! They performed "Dear World" by Frost School of Music professor, Lansing McLoskey, and "Ave Verum Corpus" by W.A. Mozart. Conducted by Dr. Amanda Quist, the performance was heard live in the hall and outside on the brand new windowcast!
Congratulations to DMA candidate, Wesley Roy, for his edition of Jean-Phillipe Rameau's masterwork opera, "Castor and Pollux" that is being premiered by Seraphic Fire and the Seraphic Fire Chamber Orchestra this weekend! The culmination of Wesley and artistic director Patrick Quigley's hard work comes to life in an astounding performance by South Florida's GRAMMY-nominated vocal ensemble.

Kyra Stahr, 1st year DMA student, will present at the College Music Society National Conference this weekend. Kyra will present, alongside Dr. McKenna Stenson, their workshop session “Conduct(her): Amplifying Female Voices on the Podium Across the World.”

Jisu Oh, 1st year DMA student, is set to lead a reading session at the 2023 Florida ACDA. This session, representing her institution, is scheduled for this weekend and will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Orlando.
During this session, Jisu will introduce the audience to "Duerme Negrito" ("Sleep, little black one") by Atahualpa Yupanqui. This piece originates from a folk song with special significance in Latin American history and culture, recounting the stories of African laborers, who arrived in the region as slaves during the colonization era. The profound message of this song and its historical narrative have elevated it to an iconic status within the Latin American music world.
She is delighted to seize this opportunity to immerse herself in a new culture, explore the historical context of a song, and share her findings with fellow musicians at this event.
