Washington Yu Ying PCS is a Chinese-immersion, public charter, International Baccalaureate World Sch
Washington Yu Ying was founded by parents in 2008 on two simple premises: 1. Fluency in more than one language develops a greater ability to communicate with and to understand other cultures; and 2. Mandarin Chinese—spoken by one in five people worldwide—is an important language for American children to learn, especially as U.S. economic and political connections to China become increasingly intertwined.
We made it through the first week of school! Small wins deserve big celebrations. This week was full of those small wins - navigating new routines, meeting new friends, and embracing the excitement of the new school year. We look forward to celebrating these moments as we grow together with our YY community!

Our first week has been full of reconnecting, learning and even some friendly competition with the Yu Ying Olympics (building tallest tower) for team bonding. We can’t wait to see you soon.

Reunited and it feels so good! This past weekend, we had a heartwarming, potluck reunion for all graduating seniors of YY alumni. 🎓 The first picture captures the real MVPs – our incredible parents who support and involvement have been the backbone of our tight knit community.
Our hearts are full watching this next chapter unfold for all graduating seniors of Yu Ying Alumni. The bonds forged at Yu Ying are truly special. 🫶
Chilling with the coolest teachers & leaders as part of kindergarten final unit of inquiry on habitats! Our arctic explorers, surrounded by amazing artwork by Ming Laoshi, are ready to navigate igloos, mermaid, tales, and hang with Arctic animals as they dive into the arctic adventure!
Full circle moments visiting YY, where it all began for these graduating seniors at . We plan to host a day for ALL alums in the coming weeks to say hello to teachers and volunteer in classrooms. Stay tuned!

Hmm…. Where is this space? It’s our renewed staff lounge! A huge shout out to our PA colleagues and committee for all the love and work that one into refreshing the space. From mood board creation to sourcing new furniture, and a special thanks to the families for their generous donations- we are so grateful!! YY staff will surely enjoy the space and stay caffeinated! ☕️
Representing Yu Ying at the National Chinese Language Conference 2024 in San Francisco! Our staff had a fantastic opportunity to engage with other educators to share best practices in Chinese language learning, visit other immersion schools in the Bay Area, and connect with other leaders in Chinese language learning.

As a culmination to Black History Month, last Friday, the 5th graders did a special project with our prek3 buddies! They taught the prek3ers about the significance of the colors black, red, yellow and green to BHM and then did a bracelet craft together.
Exploring the world of city planning with the second graders at the Building Museum today! From learning about zoning to creating their own cityscape, topped off with a visit to the Lego museum – such a cool educational adventure! 🌆🏗️
