Mahatma Gandhi College was started in 1992 as an affiliated College of Acharya Nagarjuna University by Sri Vasavi Academy of General and Technical Education, Guntur, a registered non-profit society with the cherished objective of promoting technical and higher education. The College was promoted by Prof. D. A. R. Subrahmanyam, a prominent academician, with the blessings of Sri Kanna Lakshmi Naryana, Former Minister,Andhra Pradesh.

Sri Vasavi Academy of General and Technical Education was started in 1991 as a non-profit making society registered under the Registration of Societies Act with the chrished missionary goal of imparting qualitative higher and technical education by a prominent educationist, Prof. D.A.R. Subrahmanyam, Best Teacher Awardee from Govt. of A.P. (1993). The Academy firmly believes that the purpose of education is to provide an opportunity to the students for securing an impressive employment or starting his own venture.
The society, presently runs the following institutions.

• Mahatma Gandhi P.G. College

Prof. D.A.R Subrahmanyam has an excellent academic record to his credit. He secured First Class in PUC (1969), B.Com (1972), M.Com (1974), and PGDBM (2012) courses. He got his Ph.D at his age of 28 years from Acharya Nagarjuna University. He served as Lecturer (1974-1985), Reader (1995-1988) and Professor (1988 - 1998) in the Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Management Studies, TJPS College, Guntur. He served the college as Vice – Principal during 1985-1992 and became its Principal in 1992 at the age of 38.
