Hi, I'm professional barrel racer, Kendra Dickson. My passion for personalized rodeo clothes began as a young teen while competing in rodeo queen contests. The key to winning a queen contest, is to first make a good impression and then leave a lasting one with your judges that carries over throughout the course of competition. So, my family and I were always looking for the best, most tasteful way
s to adapt clothing that would stand out in the arena and in a crowd. Today, I am a cowgirl who still loves to decorate, design and personalize all of my clothes and rodeo gear. I began decorating saddles and breast collars years ago and then by the grace of God, was given the opportunity to compete for the Jerry Ann Taylor Best Dressed Award at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo in 2013. The competition was intense and only open to the top twelve riders who qualified for the final round of barrel racing competition. My horse, Dover, and I stumbled in round two and the slip cost us dearly. To say I was a long shot, was a serious understatement. But I prayed that our time would hold and began re-fashioning an old evening gown in faith. We had to sweat it out for days as dozens of other barrel racers ran. When we were notified that we did make the cut, tied for last place, I kicked the decorating process into high gear. Our kitchen table and floor was a disaster zone.. shrouded with sequins, rhinestones and fabric. When Dover and I were blessed with a $5,000 award that evening, I knew God's hand of favor was upon us. In 2014, Dover and I were not fast enough to qualify for the final round of competition in Fort Worth. But we were still given the opportunity to compete for the best dressed award thanks to the help of friend and multiple NFR Qualifier, Jane Melby. Jane did make the short-go and asked if I would dress her for the final round. Another a sequin bomb exploded in the Dickson kitchen! My daughter, Kaiden, and I worked non-stop to compete the fuchsia ensemble that won the $5,000 award. It was such a blessing to see the final look on horseback and in the arena. From that moment on, I've enjoyed creating personalized rodeo clothes and tack for many close friends. Today, I'm thankful for the opportunity to expand the TrueColors line. I design hats, breast colors, splint boots, bell boots, rodeo shirts... you name it. It's still just me, Kendra Dickson, putting ideas together and bringing them to life with the help of my Nana's old hand-me-down Singer. But if you would like my assistance letting your own true colors shine, give me a shout and tell me your story. I want to know as much as I can about a person while I'm working. It helps customize each piece with thought, purpose and care. Thanks for visiting my page!
